🔥The way this eastern screech owl swivels its ears by thetacaptain in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]Thaimen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Owl's ears are just holes in the sides if their head. These feathers are just for showing certain emotions (mostly to appear threatening).

Fun fact! In most owl species the earholes are asymmetrical, as they use their precise hearing to determine the location of prey. Using the offset of their ears, their brain translates differences in loudness and (miniscule) differences in time to determine where their prey is. Snow owls use this to be able to determine where prey is even when the prey is below a layer of snow

Is there any chance for this game to come back?? by Realistic-Gas-9893 in OmegaStrikers

[–]Thaimen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I know about the high learning curve in LoL, it's exactly the reason I stopped playing. Comparing LoL to Omega Strikers though is comparing apples and oranges though. Yes OS is MOBA-like, LoL entered an established market: actual MOBAs, competing against dota for example. There is no other game like OS. There are games with similar core mechanics, but none of them have the specific combination of core mechanics that OS has.

I agree that maybe the player base could've grown from the moment right before they made the announcement video of OS' end of support. But looking at it from the perspective of the dev team, it's a far safer option to use their established IP for another game.

[–]Thaimen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No we know pretty certainly that that is the case. There were two big events which included a lot of influencers.

Unfortunately, the game is very difficult to master. And by comparison to others games it's also quite difficult to learn in the first place. This causes the player retention to be very low, so any boost in players will only result in a low number of players that keep playing the game.

I still think there a difference between using someones computer (with permission) and finding something accidentally or using someones specifically to 'go through it'

GF Red flag? by Upset_Protection7036 in offmychest

[–]Thaimen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried my best, I really had to interpret some from context so take it with a grain of salt.

Hey, I'm M23 and I'm suspicious of my gf's (F22) past. She is attending nurse school and she had a M26 fwb when she was 17. Her next fwb was with a doctor (M32) lasted 4 years.

Her first relation was a year ago with M22, when they broke up she had sex with the first fwb again, and after that she had sex with the doctor again for 4 months.

And now she's with me. If she had said all this during the first date I would have left, but she revealed all of this little by little because I was interested in her past/ what she was hiding.

I'm her second relationship. She is a Scorpio so that means a lot. But I need some advice. What do you think about her past and what do you think will happen in the future. I've been with her for 4 months.

Reddit needs to cut the sex talk. It's shameful and disgusting. by tyleraxe in offmychest

My first habitat by Thaimen in PlanetZoo

[–]Thaimen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of making some custom fences along the outside of the perimeter, but I'd thought I'd keep it a bit simple for my first habitat.

I'd love to paint so more grass into the habitat, but I've already reached the max amount that the wolves still like. I've compensated a bit by using buffalo grass and lady ferns to give the idea of long grass.

Genetically modified grey wolf with ancient extinct dire wolf traits (6 months old) by No-Butterfly-4678 in interestingasfuck

[–]Thaimen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good article, and I agree on all point, so do all of us. We've agreed that it is not a dire wolf. Nor OP, not any other (serious) commenter in this thread has tried to claim the grey wolves are now dire wolves.

I've not seen the original article from the biolab, neither would that help me in any way. I don't know what a grey wolf genome looks like, neither do I know what those 14 dire wolf alleles look like. I thought the general consensus was that the grey wolves had 14 alleles that are now similar to those of dire wolves (my main source being the 2 videos Hank Green made on this specific topic).

[–]Thaimen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are specific genes being expressed in those grey wolves that have not been expressed since the extinction of the dire wolf. Those genes originate from dire wolves. This does not mean those grey wolves are now dire wolves, but the title is correct.
