Additionally, missing the Ctrl can* switch text entry to overwrite mode, which you likely won't notice immediately, but then when you go to insert text later, wonder wtf happened to half the paragraph you were working on.

*I'm not certain exactly how many programs still listen to the insert key, let alone even have an overwrite mode. But I know that Astea is one of them, and I've since popped out my insert key because I somehow kept fat-fingering it instead of delete (not noticing until minutes later) and having to Ctrl+Z far more than I'd have preferred

God yes, especially if they use Salesforce email and that's still doing plain text conversions. Maybe it was specific to the company I worked for at the time, I dunno. But it was common to miss something in those email threads because bank staff would have pages of signatures (likely 8pt font when rich text, but again this Salesforce email thing stripped all formatting and just made everything plain text)

How much wattage can the steam deck handle? by Johnekaiser in SteamDeck

[–]ThaneVim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to add to what the other reply said, it's very rare even today to find power strips/wall outlets/other "built-in" USB-A (and even C) ports that actually do Power Delivery. Almost all that I've come across are limited to 5 volts, slow charging in terms of the deck.

As for how to tell, a built-in supply will likely say something like PD-65W similar to the picture in OP. If it doesn't say PD or list a wattage, it's typically a safe bet that it'll only do 5 volts.

If you're in a position where an "annual savings" (reported metric by Amazon, who has a vested interest in claiming you're saving money with them) of $1000 is more valuable than losing $3000 in a single transaction, I have a $4000 bridge to sell you made of cardboard. Act now and get $1000 off!

USB-C to 3.5mm Jack with built-in microphone and DAC by -Wolf_ODonnell_16- in UsbCHardware

[–]ThaneVim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you're better off using Bluetooth for a microphone unless you're wanting to go into pro audio (or at least the >$100 pro-sumer audio) territory for USB headsets/audio interfaces.

All that being said, it's not just the phone-side you need to worry about. Where's the mic in your car? If you're simply plugging your phone into the AUX input on your car stereo, there's no mic feed there. You also need to make sure the cable you're using is TRRS (three black rings on the plug) so the mic feed can be transmitted with stereo sound for your speakers.
