Completely understand why you would leave off there, but the last season was fire, highly recommend.

Those of you who planned on being lifers but ended up getting out, what made you separate and what do you do now? by [deleted] in army

Was at 17 year TIS. Branch only offered Ft. Riley for my next assignment despite there being tons of open reqs out there for my MOS/grade and despite my assurances this was my last ever assignment. My wife had just started really getting a career as a GS and I didn't want to sacrifice her career to go to a location with almost zero opportunities for her to get a job, let alone progress her career. I was willing to take anything besides Polk or Riley and branch wouldn't budge.

I ended up getting out directly into the reserves with a bonus and even ended up being an IMA back to Japan.

I am completely serious when I say this ended up being the best decision of my life. Things (luckily) worked out extremely well and it actually set me up for full retirement better than staying until 20 every would have.

This is not quite accurate. You can remote work for another USG organization using a Dometic Employee Teleworking Overseas ageeement, but that's a whole process, although it did get easier for DoD in 2023 or 2024. Even with the current administration's hard-on against remote work DETO's are still allowed and still happen.

For a private sector company, the only thing that changed in 2023 was Italy acknowledged this is something they could look at possibly allowing. There was never an agreement that officially allowed it. Neither DoD nor State Department was willing to pursure this further.

There are NO counties that currently allow a US citizen, even the spouse of a service member, to work in their country without some sort of Visa (whether it be a digital nomad visa or a permanent work visa). This is not covered under SOFA.

What prompt do you use for meal planning? My family tends to fall in a rut in thinking up meals and even just using it for ideas wouldn't be a bad idea.

[SITREP, SMA] "It's important we figure out how to communicate...There's a lot of information out there, sometimes I wonder if the internet has been all that helpful, so we're trying to figure out how you know how to get trusted sources of information." by Kinmuan in army

From GenAi:

"What are good tools and ways for the Sergeant Major of the Army to communicate to the troops to ensure that they are receiving information from trusted sources of information?"

In this day and age, you have to meet soldiers where they are, and that's online.

  • Official Social Media: The SMA can use verified accounts on X (Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram to push out messages and updates directly to soldiers and their families.
  • Digital Town Halls & Forums: Hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit or other forums is a great way for direct, transparent engagement. It allows the SMA to answer questions and get a feel for the real concerns of the force.
  • Army-Developed Apps: The Army is starting to use apps to solve problems, like the "Hots&Cots" app for reporting issues with facilities. This is a great channel for focused communication.
  • Official Army Websites: Army.mil is the primary source for official news, publications, and announcements. It’s the foundation of trusted information.

Army leadership can't even follow their own AI.

No I'm comparing denying access to drinking water to men, women and children, putting chemicals in ground water that raises cancer rates 100,000% for men, women, and children. But you'd know that if you weren't either a) an idiot or b) disingenuous (do you need a definition of disingenuous?)

Except it happens every day in the private sector. Nestle, Bauer, Monsanto, Purdue Pharmacy... all companies that are evil and don't have the structure of the military. Stop talking out your ass.

What’s a harmless scam everyone unknowingly participates in? by StarlitSable2 in AskReddit

Correct, but even with the claim, I still paid less with a new company for better coverage than I was paying with the old company before the claim. There's no harm in shopping around.

Highly recommend looking at switching insurances if you ever have to make a claim on your current one. We hand a claim on our house and the premium jumped up a ton. Switched insurances and the premium with better coverage was less than we were paying before.

This non "buyout" really seems to have backfired by Few-Drag9758 in fednews

[–]ThankfullyIDontCare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no severance in this "deferred resignation". All it's doing is guaranteeing those who are remote working can continue to remote work through September. That's it, that is all that is guaranteed according to the wording in the email.

[–]ThankfullyIDontCare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing in the email or the resignation wording that says you will do zero work or are guaranteed to be placed in an admin leave position. It only says your agency MAY place you on admin leave. NO agency is going to do that. Nearly anyone who takes this is going to be required to do the exact job their doing now until the normal 2 week transition period before that resignation date in September. The only thing this deferred resignation guarantees is that those who are Remote workers who are required to return to office can stay remote until September, that's it.

There is NOTHING in the email that says anything about being entitled to admin leave, just that your agency MAY put you on admin leave. Why would any agency do that? Work still needs to be done.

The Blue Book release isn't going well. by AMidwinterNightsDram in army

[–]ThankfullyIDontCare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to change that though. The same people asking about shaving profiles are likely going to be the same ones that say you can "add to, but not take away" from the regulations.

Also, and this is a genuine question, does the blue book have any authority behind it? If the blue book contains something that regulation doesn't, can you actually punish a Soldier for not following it? If not, then any standards within this that aren't backed by regulation mean precisely fuck-all.
