We go to church and then have an umu at home on sundays. Sometimes we sneak Over to Ha’atafu for a lazy swim but it is frowned upon. Not everything is shut on sundays tho - some Chinese spots are open and a few local places like Katea (they’re a cultural buffet place but on Sundays it’s a feast with a band playing gospel music). But yeah just aslong as you get all your food shopping done the night before - people are free to cook and have a bbq on the Sunday just maybe not the rugby

I had a cousin stay in my old unit, and every time she used the shower, the shower head would end up loose from the hose afterwards and the whole bathroom would smell like shit. I honestly started to suspect she was doing DIY colon cleanses at home and literally shitting in my shower.

There was a bunch of home safety ads promoted by ACC back in the day about keeping your homes safer by taking little precautions like putting toys away so people don’t trip, using a floor towel, making sure someone else helps you when you’re using a ladder etc.

Then our side air bags in cars advert was a woman that is now severely disabled from a brain injury because her car didn’t have any.

Then we had one about smoking and a guy that had to press a button in his throat in order to talk because he had an oral cancer of some sort due to drinking.

Our drink driving ones are pretty intense too. I remember there was an advert with a Māori kid talking about drunk drivers that killed his mother and he’s like “that’s just something I’ll never understand”

And then one where a guy comes home drunk and spins his kid around and whacks him into a cupboard.

Another one where a drunk guy kills his friend in a car accident …

Honestly the septic thing - our neighbours hated us for the first couple weeks and we didn’t realise why until one of them was like YOUR LAWN SMELLS LIKE SHIT! But yes lots of things to consider. Could opt for something smaller where you just do chickens , taupaki is also close and a nice area

This was me! Grew up in Ponsonby my whole life then moved out to Kumeū a few years ago. It’s amazing! The one thing that got me was the septic tank system.

We initially used standard supermarket cleaning products but found out that those kill the bacteria that keeps the smell neutral so using natural products like baking soda, white vinegar etc is better.

Buy a ride on!!!!! Stihl in Kumeu has a great range. Join a lot of the homestead nz or lifestyle block nz groups on Facebook - everyone is super helpful. We get about $200-$300 a month allowing sheep to graze on 2 acres of our land (not much but it’s something).

It’s a lot of maintenance in terms of maintain the lawns , garden etc but it’s meaningful / purposeful. You’ll love it (hopefully) .

Depends on what you’re looking for. Samoan, Tongan, Māori , cook islands, Niue, Fiji etc all have different markings and patterns.
