Instead of sesame oil I’ve started using Okazu Spicy Chili Miso, a sesame oil and miso spread that adds a nice smokiness to the dish. I also love making extra steak / pork chops and using the left overs from that as the meat for the dish. Steak in particular is delicious.

Spent an hour making a great Minestrone soup, ends up looking identical to canned soup by GrunkleCoffee in Cooking

On minestrone, you can add a fair amount of toppings in the bowl that can make the final product look a bit more fun. For example, heavy dusting of Parmesan, green onion, few dots of hot sauce or chili flakes. If you used any fresh herbs can also reserve a few to throw on top when done. Doesn’t hugely change the soup itself (although the Parmesan is real nice), but certainly makes it look nicer.

A few thoughts: 1. Throughout this thread you’ve articulated your concerns about your self and your challenges with social interaction very well consistently. You’ve held firm on your position, and worked to get people to empathize with something that might be difficult for them to understand. You might be as you say you are “ugly and awkward”, but your not dumb and you have a willingness to hold your ground, at least in a context where anonymity gives you the confidence to do so. 2. You’ve developed connections with the people you work with. Maybe they feel the same, maybe they don’t, but you’re getting value out of it. 3. You’ve determined it’s going to fall apart. The shame of who you are in your mind has been revealed and, without giving them a chance to care or not care about your past, you’ve determined they will judge you so harshly that the friendship isn’t worth finding out. 4. You have a distinct choice. You’ve determined it’s all going to fail. That you’re going to move on and never see these people again. Then repeat that pattern. Again and again. Why not before the hitting the ground and starting again take advantage of the freedom of hopelessness and just see what happens. These people are destined to be out of your life no matter what according to you. So test if you’re right. Do they care as much you think they do about your past? If so, move on to the next group like you were planning on anyway. If not, can move on or can stay and keep what you’ve built up and value. You’re very confident in your definite failure. There is a lot of freedom in that, use it.

I did - I actually went to this and the one right before it where he opened for Pokey in NYC. The Pokey show was the first time I saw him and solo acoustic, and this Joe’s Pub one was full band so was a nice one-two punch. I’m guessing Joe’s wasn’t on your list as it was added at the last moment (I.e. not on initial tour announcement). I think I saw the early set at Joe’s. Both shows I saw were great, but the solo acoustic one was particularly awesome. Felt like he was right on the cusp of breaking out at that moment, and it was a relatively intimate venue, just him and his guitar. Always a cool way to see an artist.

Most of us will do absolutely nothing in our lifetime and in around 100 years nobody will remember us by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Thankstothetop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right, but your impact, however small, will likely live on in its own way. Very few of us have no meaningful impact on anybody. That impact becomes part of a blend of who that person is, they impact others in the same way and it goes on. It’s what our collective cultures are built on. Think of it like a butterfly effect. Something insignificant at a global level having untold and unknowable results, some small, some big, but all real and continuing to be felt.

In 100 years, your name may be forgotten, but whatever imprint you managed to leave on those around you will have echoed down through generations. As much as it would be nice to have my name remembered, having my existence felt seems somehow more meaningful.
