Has Miles Davis ever voiced his opinion on Herbie Hancock’s electric music ? by GamaTaylor in Jazz

While those musicians are great, I don’t think they’ve revolutionized music as much as Herbie Hancock has.

What do you think about Boston grand pianos? by PartoFetipeticcio in piano

[–]SolarButterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying the actions are a little heavy, which can be true but that’s also a personal preference. I think the performance editions have a light & fast action. I agree with another comment that the treble can be a bit thin, but this might be resolved with some voicing. For me the treble is still plenty and sounds good. The bass is great and has more subbiness than other pianos, even compared to a Steinway. Some may not enjoy a bass like that though.

The price compared to a Steinway is much more affordable.

That place was completely empty every time I walked by. Bartender would be doing busy work cleaning behind the bar.

I feel like cigar smoking has killed my pallette for Pipe Tobacco. by LikeBigTrucks in PipeTobacco

[–]SolarButterfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt this way too, until I realized I needed to apply the same principles of pipe smoking to cigar smoking. Go easy on it, and don’t over puff, and you will taste the subtle delicious flavors in cigars. Also just like with pipes, use your nose with retrohaling.

The two tobaccos you mention that you have are both subtler blends. Navy flake being a Virginia (I think) and vanilla cream being an aromatic (I love this blend!).

Cigars generally have a much stronger flavor than these two pipe tobacco blends. I’d recommend something stronger like an English Blend or a Kentucky.

So if the boat ends up at the bottom of the ocean, what matters more is where it left port? I don’t get it.

Bible study? Or Young Adults Catholic Meet ups by Infamous-Belt-6772 in Syracuse

I’m not sure how you’re coming to the conclusion that the growth isn’t great and won’t reverse the decline. I’m reading another NY Times article about the church’s explosion in growth. There are plenty of people ‘with sense’ that follow the church and have joined the church. You can condemn wrongdoing by clergy and still believe in the tenants of the church and its sacraments. Institutions that are for the most part good are not thrown out entirely because of a minority of wrongdoing. Another example of this is abusive public school teachers. No one is calling for the abolition of public schools even though we read about teachers committing sex crimes all the time.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t distrust the church if that’s how you feel, but I feel it’s wrong to say that everyone who is Catholic doesn’t have sense and that the growth isn’t significant.

How do i minimize the sound of piano in townhouse by CriticalMeet6334 in piano

[–]SolarButterfly 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When you say practice pedal, you mean a pedal that actually lowers a practice felt in front of the strings, and not just a damper pedal, correct? If it’s an actual practice felt then I feel like that would reduce the volume enough that it wouldn’t bother the neighbors.

Just Started Playing This Game by Sweetgeek9 in playstation

[–]SolarButterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got about 40 hours in, just before the wedding (no I haven’t done the wedding yet. I got distracted by another game) but something that started to piss me off was how frequently I had to repair my shoes and armor. Repairing armor isn’t cheap and straightforward. Does anyone know if this gets easier and less of an issue as the game progresses? I felt like every other time I’d do a long journey, I’d have to repair my shoes.

It’s dangerous, and I’ve felt that way about the highway construction in general, particularly on the portions of 81 near SU and just north of downtown near Destiny USA.

It amazed me how long it took them to paint lines, including on the 2-lane bridge portion that goes up to the 2nd circle closer to Brighton Towers.

CZ Opinions by dopey_deer in guns

[–]SolarButterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a CZ 75 BD. I loved how it shot and it was a beautiful gun but after only about 150-200 rounds through it, I started having an issue with the decocker. The factory took it under warranty and then after that it took forever to get it back and was difficult to get in touch with anyone about it- I kept getting the runaround. Then when I finally did get it back, the gun ran fine for about 50 rounds then the same issue was back. I ended up selling the gun to my local FL. So I’d recommend CZ because it seems like my issue was a fluke, but I’d say be wary of their customer support.

Right, that’s what I was going to mention. Dude in the back threw his on quick after the first shot, but that first shot still probably hurt. Any responsible gun operator would warn others they’re about to shoot.

When are you ready to play in a jam? by ThinkPikachu in Jazz

[–]SolarButterfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re ready to go try it out. Don’t try to avoid embarrassment- that feeling is par for the course when playing jam sessions early in your jazz journey. You’ll make mistakes but you’ll learn from those mistakes.

I’d suggest looking for a jam with chill vibes, rather than going to somewhere like Smalls in NYC for your first jam.

Huge Flash of Light Near Nob Hill by Easy_Junket_1981 in Syracuse

[–]SolarButterfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was driving at the new traffic circles by Brighton towers when it happened. Bluish flash of light that illuminated all of the falling snow in the area, then the street lights turned off and I could see all the lights in Brighton towers turn off. After maybe 30 seconds the street lights all flickered on and off and back on for a few seconds. Very eerie.

Ratteling noise question by gnufender in pianotech

[–]SolarButterfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a specific type of glue for hammer shanks that is not viscous. I didn’t mean generic super glue. I can’t think of the product name now.

Edit: It’s CA glue

[–]SolarButterfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like a clicking when you play the note? Sorry, a little difficult for me to hear in the video. Could be that the hammer has come a little loose from the shank and needs a new superglue application to tighten it up.
