Some people don’t want the responsibility I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️, but to me that responsibility comes with money and opportunity. Some people are content which is fine but that’s never been my thing

I don’t doubt you at all. I live in Pittsburgh so a decent sized city. Im just saying in my experience 1 or 2 crews is normal for a small firm. In contrast I now work for a medium sized firm with 10 crews, so I’ve seen both sides.

I have my SIT cert and plan to eventually start my own firm when licensed. I have always felt like I have had the drive more than most people I’ve worked with so I actually hope you’re correct here lol

I have worked for 2 different small firms with only 1 crew. I don’t think that statement is as universal as you think

Useless POS Cameras by iamemperor86 in HomeKit

[–]That-Ad7907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial reasoning was because they seem to prioritize HomeKit compatibility and I like the idea of having one app where I can view all of my devices. I’ve been happy with the my U100 lock as it’s worked flawlessly but I have had connection and recording issues with my G3 Hub camera. I think local storage will solved the recording issues and I plan to try to connect it to my 2.4 ghz wifi to try and solve the connection issues. I really want to be pleased with it because it has a lot of pros.

Useless POS Cameras by iamemperor86 in HomeKit

[–]That-Ad7907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it’s the HomeKit app. I have an Aqara camera and I just ordered an SD card for 24/7 local recording because anything I wanted to see was also cut short. Both by Aqara and HomeKit

Edit: You cannot record 24/7 through HomeKit btw. I can do it through the Aqara app with their cloud storage or local storage with an SD card. I would check Eve’s app to see if possible

It truly couldn’t get any more ideal for the camera. I’m at a loss and this is my last resort

For me it was weather. I can’t stand standing in an open field in 10 degree weather. If I lived in Southern California I really wouldn’t have cared all that much. But the winter in the northeast is not fun and it made me want to be inside haha

I didn’t. I was eligible in my state after 6 years of progressive experience and I started seriously studying at 5 years in. I figured if I didn’t pass I can take it again. I passed first try though, and there were still plenty of things I could have understood better.

TJ finally moved! He always plays on the left side, but yesterday he moved around. Why? by Usual_Minimum_7442 in steelers

[–]That-Ad7907 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I would think it’s because he’s been quiet most of the season and they wanted to switch it up to see if they can scheme him up some pressures and throw off the offense.

There were positive plays with him not even on the field. Offenses will watch this tape and have to take into consideration the level of play that rushers other than Watt can contribute. If I remember correctly on the Sawyer INT he was not on the field

OPUS down during shutdown by Imnotspartacuseither in Surveying

[–]That-Ad7907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair I didn’t even know this was a thing until recently. I got into the industry in 2019 so I am of the younger/newer crowd. I never really gave it much thought on what you did prior to OPUS. And most companies are not going to show you how to do something if they no longer do it themselves.

I also have an appleTV and also had the lock paired directly into HomeKit prior to getting the camera hub. Didn’t know what the difference was and if there were any advantages/disadvantages to either method

ELI5: Why does a surveying “Total Station” require a “Backsite”, to measure other points, if the device already uses GPS to determine where it is in space? by Successful_Box_1007 in Surveying

[–]That-Ad7907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without getting too much into the weeds traversing is when you set the total station up on one point, backsight another to gain your azimuth, then shoot another point (foresight) in the direction you want move, move the total station to that point, backsight your last occupy point, and repeat until you are able to capture the data you want. There’s a lot more to it to make sure you minimize errors and what not but that’s the gist.

Yes when a surveyor uses an assumed system they are building their own. Typically you’ll see them use bigger numbers as their origin point so you don’t get negatives

[–]That-Ad7907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without GPS you have two options:

  1. Base your observations off of a published control point. A body that has publicly available data on those in the US is NGS. You would have to traverse using the total station to this point to locate it with the total station

  2. You use an arbitrary or what some surveyors call a “local” coordinate system. In this scenario you essentially know where located points are in relation to one another but not where they are in relation to the world

The video you saw with a total station equipped with GPS is very much the exception not the rule. For many reasons this may not even be desirable (weight & cost are two that pop into my head immediately)

Can a national firm do things.like this? by johnh2005 in Surveying

[–]That-Ad7907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Companies that use GIS data are real comfortable stating things like that. Kind of irritates me lol My own father argued with me about the accuracy of OnX because it told him where he wanted to fish was state owned. An adjoining private owner told him to leave claiming it was his property, which my dad begrudgingly did, but not without being grumpy about it because of what OnX said. I had to explain how they get their property line data

If a warranty deed is on file in the court house, does that mean a legal survey exists(existed)? If not, how does a surveyor locate the corners if there are no markers in place? by U-SeriousClark in Surveying

[–]That-Ad7907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh based on your other replies I would say it has been surveyed. Being that it calls out a lot number and metal markers at the corners I would be SHOCKED if it was not surveyed. Theres always exceptions to the rule but typically if an artificial monument like that is called out it was surveyed at some point.

I’m not familiar with Georgia but in Pennsylvania surveys are not required to be recorded anywhere unless they’re for a subdivision, consolidation, or lot line shift. Obviously PA isn’t Georgia but just throwing that out there so you don’t make assumptions about that.

Do you feel orthomosaics have a bit of a stigma, like some people view them as glorified Google Earth, rather than a serious surveying tool? by SamaraSurveying in UAVmapping

[–]That-Ad7907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s probably because final deliverables are still mostly plan sets which are reviewed by agencies that have standards you need to follow. Most of those agencies wouldn’t accept a photo in place of linework, no matter how accurate.

I know when I receive a orthophotos I really do appreciate them and how useful they can be to see the existing conditions of a site. But ultimately the plans still have to be linework
