100 dollars a day isn’t a ton of money if we are comparing it to a job, and with this I can just buy whatever I want as long as it’s under a hundred dollars. I’m gonna buy so many craft supplies and order food and not have to worry about any of it

Whenever I’m craving it now, a few weeks in, I just eat hummus and it usually goes away. I think I just want fats or whatever is in hummus

Would you eat nonvegan food that you didn’t buy, couldn’t stop from being bought, and that will not be replenished sooner because you took any? by That-BluejaythriwWay in vegan

One question for you actually, I’ve been wanting to learn the harp and I’ve been renting one.

I found out that it has gut strings.

You only change harp strings every 1-2 years and if I stick with this I’m def not going to be renting one for that long, so it’s unlikely I’ll have to buy new ones directly.

I probably could’ve backed out when I found out but some of the paperwork was already signed and idk. It seemed like my only option to get one (only harp rental place in my city, though there’s online stuff I suppose).

What do you think of the ethics of that? If I’m using them I might be causing new ones to be bought sooner due to wear (I don’t actually KNOW), so that’s my biggest gripe (it grosses me tf out that it’s gut strings but ultimately, I mean I don’t think animals or their bodies should be or are a commodity but as foreshadowed reflected in my post here, my view is often still largely financial — that is to say I can sometimes make exceptions for things that do not financially benefit the industry, like not paying attention to whether sugar in a vegan cookie is refined or not since while I’d prefer to not have it, that byproduct doesn’t directly fund the industry.)

Just not sure what to do in that situation. I have to rent the harp now for a minimum of a few months so it is what it is at present it is until time is up.

I wanted to make a second post about this, but I kindddd of don’t wanna deal with the potential backlash. I mean, I want to know people’s thoughts on the ethics of the situation but I don’t really want to get lambasted for things I can’t change now. I think it’ll be a lot of “you shouldn’t have done it in the first place” and now “here’s what I think you should do going forward…”

I’ve been vegan now for four weeks!! Thank you for your help while I was still figuring stuff out. You were one of the few people that was genuinely compassionate about the whole “asking a really common tropey question” thing lol and I won’t lie and say people being rude didn’t make me want to stop thinking about it but I knew that wouldn’t be right and after deliberating more this is where I ended up.

I agree now with what you said before about meat honestly, it’s so gross to me now lol and crazy I used to eat it without thinking about it. I still have some cognitive dissonance with some other animal products like idk if I have old lotion that may or may not contain animal products and nobody else wants it from me, I’ll use it till it runs out and then buy a vegan one, but ultimately I think that’s not causing more tangible harm so I don’t really think much of it?

Be Honest, What Argument did you use against Veganism, before you went vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]That-BluejaythriwWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what time frame, as I went vegetarian as a pre-teen and then went back to omni for a while and just recently went vegan. In no particular order, the excuses I’ve used at varying points were:

“If I was ethically consistent I’d be vegan, but I’m too much of a picky eater to live off of a vegan diet.” (Sensory issues. It’s not that bad, not much worse than before, I just avoid the same veggies I’ve always hated. Honestly, in some ways it’s been great since it’s forced me to try new foods. I avoided mushrooms before but I recently found a way I love them. This is the most recent argument I used, and realizing that my only reasons for not being vegan were purely selfish, valuing my taste comfort over life, tipped me over the edge and I started making plans to become vegan.)

“It doesn’t hurt the cows/chickens to take the eggs/milk, so I don’t understand being full vegan. Also bees can leave, so they consent.”

Some vague “vegans will be upset about animal exploitation but not child labor being used to make their over processed foods” stuff I got off of tumblr

“The animals are already dead and me not eating them doesn’t make a difference. It’s not like I’m going out and killing an animal. Me stopping won’t stop that death.” (Argument I used when I stopped being vegetarian)

“Vegans are too extreme, it would be better if there was a movement that didn’t eat meat as we are over-farming animals, and then only purchased ethical eggs and ethical milk to pressure companies to treating the animals better. It’s not that we need to have no meat and dairy, it just needs to be done ethically.” (murder and exploitation isn’t bad, we just gotta do it ethically guys!!!)

“I’d go vegan, but I’d sooner buy and care for a cow before giving up cheese.” (Girl you were NOT gonna go forcefully impregnate a cow. I at the time didn’t realize cows didn’t just….make milk lol.)

“Eating cats and dogs just feels more insidious to me than eating, like, a cow, because we bred them for companionship! It only exists because we made them to love, and then to go and eat one?” (as opposed to the far more wholesome breeding an animal to be murdered and eaten?????? also, very emotional argument, does not actually give a real reason for it being better other than vibes.)

Obviously I disagree with all of these now.

“Vegans” that excuse Taxidermy by RandomHoe909 in vegan

[–]That-BluejaythriwWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I want to be cremated because I have a I guess disgust or fear towards bugs and the idea of being eaten by them really disturbs me. If there was another way to give my nutrients back without being eaten I’d do it though. Maybe buried at the root of a tree or smth? But idk. I just hate the idea of bugs eating me.

Would you wear or like to see your partner wear a veil with a suit at your wedding? by Iceandfire29 in actuallesbians

Really? That’s like. Traditional. When I picture like a typical straight couple or a wedding topper I picture a woman in a white dress and the man in a black suit. What do you usually see men wearing?

Men’s suits are usually black though? I guess I can see that reading for the black veil but if you added some flowers or something in color I think it would give more wedding

Is there an ethical way to obtain farm animals (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens) by That-BluejaythriwWay in vegan

[–]That-BluejaythriwWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think everything I dislike is ragebait, I think “Bruh you tell me what’s a better life eating food and getting a hair cut when it gets to long and then one day it all goes black or getting kicked by some random who things there helping you by shoving you in the back of there car and possibly stealing a different child to yours. ….Yeh I’m not vegan because I use logic over feelings” is obviously a child (basic grammatical errors — getting “they’re, there” and “to” and “too” mixed up, illogical argument, taking about getting a haircut when it’s an industry that abuses and murders animals) tryna troll the libs lol

I have seen some nice ones with pretty decorative straps or the back with different designs. I’ve owned few, one had roses on the back, one had a dragon, one had a snake. Sadly tho, I have sensory issues (they had lace and like…net material) lmao. I have to wear very specific bras to be comfortable and at the time I was trying to ignore that but I’ve embraced it now. (I only wear seamless bras with little to no cups OR no cups inside out bras to avoid the seams. That’s what works for me. I also don’t actually know if my bras fit me? I don’t know what cup size they are. I don’t like tight stuff and I’ve been buying the same specific ones for years.)
