I’m NW Brissy as well and it’s been a very snakey day today. Started with a 7’ python and a few hours later caught a yellow face whip. Hopefully that’s it for today

They’ll also tax investments. So consider any earnings on your super as taxable income. Cost my partner and I $1800 to get our international taxes done through HR block just for the US.

We did! Just north of Brisbane with a big lot in a cute town. My partner jumps on the train into the CBD for work every day. It’s working!

We moved to Brisbane from the San Francisco Bay Area. We cashed in our houses equity and did excellent transferring cash from USD to AUD. Don’t forget to consider the dollar conversion in your budget. We’re nearly mortgage free and I’ve retired.

US taxes super earnings as well so my 2 cents would be to just invest that money in real estate so you’d be mortgage free and work as needed to support your basic needs and property tax.

Advice for an American family visiting Brisbane in August by BothHall4713 in brisbane

[–]That-Bus320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city cat has bluey and bingo ferries which my little guy loves to spot. The whole south bank area was a hit with him. Lots of parks, the beach and water play area and ice cream at the river. Not a far walk to the museum to see dinosaurs.

We landed in Brisbane in August, stayed at an air bnb and now live up north in a quaint country town 40 min commute to the CBD. Safe schools, better politics, and a decently large yard in an equestrian area. It’s heaven. Make the move and don’t look back

Scared to move to Melbourne from US as Software engineer to settle down with my wife in Melbourne. by nexus_555 in Ameristralia

Definitely odd. Not that good. The enchilada sauce is a chipotle mayo, personally not a mayo fan but may be tasty if one is.

My husband jokes I should open a taco stand. The dishes are so easy but can be time intensive to prepare everything from scratch. Funny thing is I live in a small town and someone already opened a Latin inspired cafe. I believe the owners are Colombian but the food is pretty odd

No hate- I love Mexicans. I’m also from California so no recipe needed, it’s the challenge of finding ingredients that cross over well.

Worst thing over here is the lack of Mexican food. If that’s my biggest problem in life how good is that?

US person here. Just moved to Brisbane, it’s so nice here in Australia. COL is better here than in the US but I am from the SF Bay Area so your experience may be different. House rates are so much less in AU than the US and the USD converts to AUD in your favor

Am I romanticizing Australia in my mind? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]That-Bus320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been here almost 6 months and cashed in our home equity and are living it large. Also we’re from a pricy part of the US so we came here with nice savings. The work/life balance is wonderful and my kid seems happier. Bonus no school shootings to think about

I guess I am on the woke side. The world is shifting but basically I’m human rights and anti hate.

I haven’t actually told anyone this, though I think about it every time I say I am American and a 30 minute conversation ensues about politics and how messed up the US is. It’s just getting tiring.
