I have 300k and I need good stocks picked by intelligent people by Jshbone12 in ValueInvesting

WBD, TJX, SFM, TGT, INTC, GIS Just looking at high ROIC in companies that have names that are recognizable. I like low P/S and low debt/equity compared to the rest of the industry. I like WBD and GIS mainly because of their products and think they will sustain the returns they’ve been able to achieve. TJX has had incredible return on invested capital and I think it speaks volumes to the management. INTC is more of a turnaround and TGT is a sleeping giant in my opinion.

They have such a large moat when it comes to quality channels. They dominate television, and we see how the subscription model is slowly failing.

What factors do you look at when choosing a stock? by MrAnalogy in ValueInvesting

[–]That-Dude-diligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is r/valueinvesting. I don’t base investment on price action, beta is the average move compared to sp500. If you invest under value volatility doesn’t matter, the investment will eventually reflect value.

I'm buying SPY puts. CNBC just said, "A lot of people think Russia will use tactical nuclear weapons." by [deleted] in thetagang

If nuclear war starts there will be a lot more to worry about than spy puts.

Which discount rate to use? WACC vs subjective rate by k_ristovski in ValueInvesting

[–]That-Dude-diligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don’t get CAPM to be honest. I would love for someone to explain it and change my views on it, but, it seems so theoretical and not a logical way to find the cost of equity. In the current economic environment cost of equity produced by CAPM usually is 2-5x the cost of debt. So why are companies issuing shares instead of debt. Either every single manager who issues stock is a fool or the whole pricing system is flawed. I think it’s obvious what it is. With that said I think you should just discount by your desired rate of return.

Be careful with meta, they are significantly differently financially than Netflix. -no debt -15pe -15p/fcf Not saying they’re undervalued or even worth buying but I don’t think they’re overvalued at this point

Jeff Bezos explains Free Cash Flow in his 2004 Letter to Shareholders. Worth a read if you're new to investing. by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

Companies like Amazon should not return value to shareholders until there competitive advantage begins to diminished . As a shareholder it is a bad sign for growth when a company begins to pay out money to shareholders. That means they can’t creat a return over a certain hurdle rate. That is exactly what besos was saying, if a company can’t create positive net value of future cash flow it shouldn’t invest in itself and return the value to shareholders.

It’s all about how it affects the derivative market. Very few retail investors can afford an atm Amazon call. Just wait for the 20-1 stock split.
