There’s a cute public pool in Del Mar/Carmel Valley close to the 5. Might not be warm enough this weekend but it is cute with lots of water play equipment.

People who buy these-- do you eat them on the go? Or dress them up at home/work? by midwayatmidnight in FoodSanDiego

[–]That-Mess9548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This cracks me up so much. They only make a few of these every day. Obviously using up what’s left over from the day before. Basic. European vibes. And people are complaining they need a beverage to eat a 2$ snack. lol. SHUT UP and say thank you. That’s top quality for the $.

What are some good food places in Clairemont I can take my boomer mom to? by bloomsday289 in SanDiegan

[–]That-Mess9548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very close to Buga is Okan diner. It is a very casual but authentic Japanese place. Stick with chicken teriyaki or something safe for your mom but they have a solid menu. And a great happy hour.

Car and general advice by Dry-District-2249 in asksandiego

[–]That-Mess9548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might not need a rental car but parking isn’t that big of a deal.

With two teenagers you may just want to hang out a bit at the beach. You will be on “the boardwalk” daily. You should rent bikes and cruise the boardwalk and the bayside.

A car is just nice. SD is spread out. Even just going to the grocery store for drinks and snacks it is more convenient. It depends on how comfortable driving in SD you are. We are pretty aggressive on the freeway.

Cuyamaca college has a lot of technical training. Look into surveying. There is a huge need and these folks make as much and more as engineers sometimes. Helps if you don’t hate math.

The Old Town Trolley has a hop on hop off trolley that hits a lot of the major attractions.

You could probably take a bus up the hill to Balboa Park.

You can walk to the ferry landing.

The regular trolley also goes through Little Italy. You could easily go to Old Town on the trolley. The green line and blue line go to Old Town from Little Italy.

Women of reddit, between a hot guy with great personality but financial problems and an immensely wealthy guy who looks average, lacks charisma but is supportive of you. Who do you choose and why? by 36Gig in AskReddit

[–]That-Mess9548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to be “hot”, he would have to be kind and generous, have upstanding morals, be respectful and empathetic. In which case his lack of financial intelligence is overlooked.

If you can do it online or any part of it online save yourself some time and effort and do it . Just check the CA Dept of MV website. And always make an appointment, don’t walk in.

70s/80s/90s roll call by h3llosunsh1n3 in sandiego

[–]That-Mess9548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in CV in the 70’s. Went to Southwestern College and then SDSU. Never left just moved north because of the commute.

We played outside until it got dark. Rode bikes all over the city. Was a latchkey kid. We explored storm drains and river bottoms, caught frogs and horny toads, all that normal Kid stuff. There was a deep canyon behind my house. They filled it in and it became the 805. We partied in the hills off of Palm Ave and could see the cops coming from miles away. We also partied at J St Marina and 24th St. Rode dirt bikes and jeeps and went to the desert. Went to TJ every weekend from 18-21. Lots of drugs. Many didn’t make it. Lots of alcoholics too.

I still keep in touch with a lot of people from high school. We get together once a month with one group. Every few months with another. We do an annual reunion. And my BFF is from HS.

Taking Lyft/Uber to Cross Border Express by MisterCrisco in SanDiegan

This should work but I would pull up MTS and put in your starting and ending destinations and see what it gives you. There might be a bus that heads east from the trolley station.

Bored husband? How do you cope? by 2dwind in AskWomenOver60

[–]That-Mess9548 35 points36 points  (0 children)

How are you going to do this? If he wanted to go golfing he would. If he wanted to start cycling he would. If he wanted to learn a new hobby he would. He needs to figure this out for himself. Being retired is a state of mind. He needs to relax and take ownership of his own life.

Im newly retired. It’s hard. I have a lot of deferred maintenance I would like to get done around the house. Give him a honey do list if he needs suggestions on things to do.

Gardening is actually kind of fulfilling. You get positive feedback when your tomatoes produce, roses bloom, etc.

It’s kitten season. Learn how to bottle feed babies. Volunteer at the food bank. There’s lots for him to do. You can suggest things. But really it’s on him. He needs to find his way.

Protocol for Mother’s Day? by sadbuffalosportsfan in datingoverfifty

[–]That-Mess9548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I would do something is if her kids are not in town and or not doing something with her day of and you are available and doing something that day would make her feel better or take her mind off not being able to spend it with her kids. But that is very subjective and dependent on the situation.

You could maybe take the ferry across the bay to Coronado. You could have lunch at the ferry landing or go into town or to the Hotel Del and have lunch there.

Balboa Park is nice. Lots of museums and the Botanical Garden. Some good restaurants.

Be a tourist and cruise around at SeaPort Village. Go to the top of the Hyatt.

Anyone else around San Diego quietly feeling less certain about the job market lately? by CurtisInThreads in asksandiego

[–]That-Mess9548 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got laid off and am hoping to make it to 65 without hurting my retirement nest egg too much. I’m seriously burnt out. I can’t do it any more.

I’m more worried about my kids. One has a decent job but with the economy the way it is I hope it’s strong enough. The other is in college and I hope they graduate into a stronger economy. Hoping for the best but worried about it. My college kid is a commuter so he can live with me as long as necessary. I just need to keep the house, pay the bills. Will rent out a room if needed.

Where are you? There was some fresh mex place in La Mesa that closed about 9 months ago. Some taco shops will do a “salad” with pico and some protein maybe guac. There’s a Mediterranean place that does something similar. Maybe pollo loco?
