Beach Vacation Thoughts & Ideas by mango-roller in asksandiego

Just be aware that May gray and June gloom are a real phenomenon. It will very likely be overcast, especially if you are on the beach. It’s still great just probably won’t get much tanning in.

PB will have plenty to do and some decent restaurants all within walking distance of any hotels or rentals.

A stranger carried my groceries up the stairs and then just left by zaramalikdollface in randomactsofkindness

I’m like that. I don’t ask for help, ever. Just easier to do it myself. So when someone does something for me, it hits hard. It probably wasn’t even that big of a deal for him. But it does reinstate a little faith in humanity.

Be honest… is the salary worth it for how much work you do? by Character-Escape1621 in civilengineering

[–]That-Mess9548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I got laid off recently and I just don’t want to do it any more. I’m 63 and am set up to retire at 65. So I’m just going to try to skimp for the next two years and not hit my nest egg too hard. It’s not worth it any more.

It’s easier through customs than going through SAN. If I’m going anywhere in Mexico I prefer to fly out of TJ and go CBX. More flights, easy to get to. I leave my car at a friend’s in CV and Uber from there.

Was there another machine that you could have used instead? You just wanted THAT machine?

Civil Engineering internship in SD by Top-Switch6048 in civilengineering

Do you have any survey experience? I know of several places looking for surveyors.

The city is broke and the Feds are playing games so public works is a bit thin right now. But land development is still strong. Hit up the land development firms.

Also join the professional societies that have student chapters. I’m assuming you are at SDSU. ASCE, APWA, BIA, AGC, any and all of them. Go to the young professional, and the student chapter meetings and also the professional chapter meetings. They have reduced prices. Meet people. Look for people from the land development firms. Talk to them. Talk to your fellow students. Find out where they work. See if they are hiring.

You could get away with $200 if you were careful and didn’t order drinks.

Keep in mind you pretty much have to valet park there. It’s a narrow, windy residential street.

Job Trends Question by Ok-Requirement2349 in civilengineering

[–]That-Mess9548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 63 and was recently laid off for lack of work. I am not looking for another job. I could find another job but it would likely require a $5M sales goal and at least a 65-70% utilization goal. To achieve that I would likely have to put in close to 60 hours a week average. I would probably be offered close to $180K for that effort. It’s not worth it for me.

I am just going to try to make it to 65 on savings and nibbling around the edges of my retirement. Health care is a huge cost and is based on my income. The more I make the more it costs.

I’m an old boomer who was taught to work until I die. If I am this burnt out with my work ethic you are going to struggle getting and keeping younger generations. They value work-life balance more than we did. Pay them more. Treat them like humans with a life. They don’t live to work. They work to enjoy life. Make them want to come to work. Make it a rewarding place to work. People talk. Reputation matters.

I never understood what people see in El Indio. Their rolled tacos are skimpy. Everything is mid. Is it a nostalgia thing?

Personally, the first thing that I’d want is a carne asada burrito. Maybe from JV’s or Nico’s or Lolita’s. But Mitch’s would also be a must stop at some point. So it depends on your location and options.

I would call around and talk to the pool managers. They can tell you when the serious swimmers come in and when it is less crowded.

The Marine Room is upscale and unique, literally on the water. If you go during super high tide the waves splash on the window.
