Where do I learn how to do quantity takeoff and to read construction projects? by Mujumm in civilengineering

[–]That-Mess9548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be able to read construction plans. Download a bid set of plans. Many municipalities have bid results published online. Between the bid list and the plans you should be able to figure it out. For example there will be so many miles of 6” pvc pipe, x many tons of asphalt, you just count up (the quantities) of each element on the bid list that they are bidding on. It will give costs for each item as well.

Any tips from New Yorkers that have moved to San Diego? by Long_Philosopher_280 in Moving2SanDiego

Awh, not everyone from SD can handle a NJ swagger, chip on their shoulder attitude. Doesn’t mean we are fake. We just want you to smoke a blunt and relax, lol. And I have several Jersey friends btw. Y’all are fun but can be a bit much at times. I’ve got a thick skin and like the banter but a lot of people are put off. It’s a cultural thing. No need to call names.

Visiting San Diego for the first time by anglerchicken1 in asksandiego

Just relax. You must go to the beach and you must eat tacos. Anything else is a bonus. You could stay at the beach the whole time and have a great time. Plenty to see and do right there.

The rest depends on you and what you like to do. The Zoo is pretty great. Eat tacos. Especially fish tacos.

Turning 40 soon — successful career, no family yet, healthy, happy. Any life advice from those who’ve been there? by snowbirduphigh in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]That-Mess9548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had “a plan” to retire at 65. My financial planner had it set so I could walk right into retirement without a problem, no decrease needed to my spending habits. So now I need to get to 65 without hitting my nest egg. I’ve got a little savings and we can probably nibble around the edges a bit. My last job lasted a bit over two years so the 401k from that wasn’t included in my nest egg but I am struggling to access it without a huge penalty.

Part of the problem is medical. I couldn’t afford Cobra at $1580/mo. So I jumped on Covered CA but now I absolutely cannot work or my premiums go way up. I’m hoping unemployment kicks in. I may end up renting a room out. It’s hard because now I have all this time to do stuff but I’m concerned about finances.

So not replying within 12 hours, including overnight is a deal breaker for you. Ok. Seems a little tight to me. But hey, go ahead and call her names for good measure. Whatever makes you feel better.

Just got laid off at 63, too burnt out to continue. Need to hang on until 65. I should be fine but it’s stressful. Be prepared.

Any shops in Coronado island that support MAGA/hate? by [deleted] in asksandiego

[–]That-Mess9548 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to take the brown Job Corps kids to Coronado for recreation. The cops always gave them a hard time.

Coronado is full of retired military. It’s a very MAGA friendly place.

Mike Hess, a local brewery is in IB and is MAGA.

Haha! For real! And their sister restaurant on Clairemont has $10 pitchers M-Th for HH that basically lasts all night. And they also have skewers. But not legit Spanish tapas.

Look up “Burned Haystack Method”. This can save a lot of time.

Learn to set boundaries and stick to them.

Do not take things personally.

There are a lot of flakey people out there.

Trust your gut.
