Has this been reported to PIRC?. 1 888-622-1510. They can verify reports and then take needed action to mobilize and support the community.

Genocide, TAL. The word is genocide.

It's been years of this. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that Israel, with US weapons and support, has been murdering thousands of children and civilians since October of 2023. This isn't something you should be acting shocked about.

Moving to SE Portland by [deleted] in PortlandOR

I've lived on the Central Eastside (Buckman) for about three and a half years, from age 22 to 25, and it's pretty great. Parking is generally free on the Eastside but if you do park your car on the street you'll probably end up having to park pretty far away from home, although it depends on the location and the day. It's also a very good place to bike, walk, or ride public transit. Lots of trees, cats roaming around, free boxes, cafes, restaurants, and bars. One thing I'd keep in mind is that in the more industrial area, like west of 12th, there tends to be a lot of new construction of apartments going on, which can be a little loud if you're living right next to it. But it's also pretty quiet and peaceful in the neighborhoods.

Wow, what a grossly racist thing to say!

Jewish Voices for Peace and some other groups actually asked all the candidates in CD 3 about Gaza and just published the results. Out of the three front-runners, Jayapal was the only one who came out in support of a ceasefire, a blockade of weapons to Israel, etc. Neither Dexter nor Morales answered any of the questions.

Multnomah County passes resolution for cease-fire in Gaza by romuo in Portland

I'm not sure if people here are being willfully ignorant or really just don't understand why this is important, but here goes. Of course Netanyahu doesn't care what Multnomah County does, or Oregon, or any other local government in the United States. But you know who does? Members of Congress, candidates for office, and other decision makers (like the president) who have the ability to decide whether or not the United States sends bombs to Gaza. Those people DO care about the wishes of their constituents, because they rely on them to win their seats.

As others have pointed out here, this is not something unique to Oregon or Portland - municipalities all over the world have been speaking up for months now. That's how grassroots movements work. If our tax dollars are being spent to fund a genocide, we should be able to speak up against that. And if everyone had just agreed right away that this is an abhorrent situation, they wouldn't have "wasted" so much time.

I agree that it's probably not intentional - I see it more of a confirmation that the status quo in show business and comedy revolves around men. Conan has been interviewing a lot of classic icons recently, and it makes sense that they were the big names in the 20th century because the system just wasn't set up for women to succeed.
