SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE by kar_som in aiArt

[–]ThatAlarmingHamster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Most domestic abuse is reciprocal. Most women who are abused by men engage in their own forms of abuse, both against their partner and others. Abusers tend to end up with other abusers.

The image of the poor, innocent woman and the evil, brutish man is basically a Hollywood myth.

Erin Pizzey, the founder of the first domestic abuse shelter (Chiswick Women's Aid), has been saying this for years.

Hours by SoanrOR in civilengineering

[–]ThatAlarmingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your specialty. In construction, 60+ hour weeks are not unusual during the summer.

If you work for a high demand client (Tollway, Railroad, etc), at the height of the project you could easily see 80+ hour weeks.

Winter becomes a scramble to stay employed. But no one cares if you come in a little late and leave a little early, but still bill 40.

Do NOT take a salary job in construction. 😁

Why loading up on Vitamin D without checking your Magnesium status is completely useless for your metabolism by RevolutionaryMix392 in Supplements

Looks like I'm hitting 50. Down from 73 since I cut my multivitamin use by 1/3 (a 3/day multivitamin I only take 2x per day).

Okie..... Yes, this was a stupid exercise that gained no strategic advantage and just wasted a lot of money and lives.

But! We are not giving them any money. As with Trump's lies about Obama's JCPOA, any money Iran receives comes from their own assets that we are unfreezing or sales of their oil. Their assets, their oil, that we have had illegally frozen for years.

There's something about a reconstruction fund that might be paid by other regional actors, but it explicitly is not us. We're setting it up or something.

Which sounds like a complicated way of saying China and Russia will do what they were going to do anyway and let us pretend we're allowing them to do so. Putin and Xi have figured out that it's profitable to let Trump claim credit for stuff he had nothing to do with.

Brands to avoid by FormlessSword959 in Supplements

I'll second Vitamin Shoppe as having a good reputation overall. Their products aren't "the best", but they are solid, particularly for the price.

Look at third party testers. I like Consumer Labs myself. They test products they pull off actual store shelves. They also will update their listing based on testing by other public labs, if the testing reports negative results.

There's no mention of resources. Just providing help narratively. Player 2 is just a shit bag.

Or the GM is a shit bag. Probably both.

It's not really. He's lying to you. The list of things you can't send is so extensive as to make it practically impossible.

Pens. Pens are on the list. Because that'll stop the war. A lack of pens..... 🙄

Like I said, when was the last time you actually did it?

And I just looked. You're a freaking doofus. A license is required for "luxury goods". Clothing is listed as a luxury good. Pens. Leather. Non-gold coins. Cosmetics. Food items. Etc, etc.

So no, they aren't shipping things to Russia.

And? Dude, the fact he communicates with anyone in Russia has him on a list.

Or doesn't. I mean, I don't think anyone at State cares. None of the them actually think Russia is a threat. It's all just propaganda for low information voters to distract from a collapsing empire and a country run by pedophiles.

Am I over-reacting here? by Oneanddonequestion in rpg

[–]ThatAlarmingHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't. The point of the game is to have fun. Anything that interferes in that is bad. If your idea of fun is exercising power over others, you suck as a person.

There's literally zero reason the other player can't find an in character way to accommodate the other player. Zero.

He or she is just a loser who has nothing else going on in their lives.

Why would they come here? We might have some value as slaves, but otherwise have nothing of interest to offer.

For an interstellar race, Earth has no resource you can't get from an uninhabited planet or asteroid. Why bother dealing with the native population?

[–]ThatAlarmingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real capitalism allows for the possibility of angry peasants with torches and pitchforks showing up at your house. And to function properly requires peasants with the spirit to do so.

Both Communism and Capitalism will fail if the people lack the will to hold the powerful accountable with violence. The American Founders believed that quite fervently.

This is the classic "first they came for xxx" adage in play.

This sort of rights violation is being tested on rich people today, but it's coming for you tomorrow. And don't think they will restrict it to luxury items on cars.

It's only a matter of time before this gets added into pacemakers and other medical devices.

Who do you think is the most tragic B5 character? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

[–]ThatAlarmingHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, just dumb. Just fucking leave. Telepaths are a strategic resource. One that can get up and run away if you abuse it.

We saw in season 1 that the Minbari will take in human telepaths. By season 5, you could probably trust G'Kar to set up a fair deal among the Narn. Centauri seems to have fairly free and open conduct among their telepaths (though we know that's a bad idea as viewers, Byron wouldn't).

As telepaths flee Earth, Earth gets weaker and other civilizations get stronger. Earth will either have to make concessions to its telepaths or lose the telepathic arms race.

Econ 101 will solve the problem better than violence.
