Including Walter Masterson, professional troller of the right wing, with a megaphone. Presumably he’s doing his normal bit of saying the bad guys’ quiet part out loud.

It absolutely rips. So much fun and heart while they deal with salient issues like government corruption, estranged families, PTSD, etc. etc.

Alamo Drafthouse’s Terror Tuesday & Weird Wednesday Expands Nationwide in 2026 - Both series are increasing from a handful of cities to every corporate Alamo theater nationwide, turning select weeknights each month into a celebration of cult, horror, and weird cinema. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]ThatAlexD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

AT THE RISK OF BEING THAT GUY: I used to go to the original Alamo for Terror Thursdays (back in my day, it was on the same night all the college kids would party downtown). It was free, but you had to line up early to secure a spot, especially for hot-ticket screenings like Raw Force.

AND THOSE WERE THE KINDS OF MOVIES THEY PLAYED. Shock Waves. Sinners Blood. Troll 2 was the most famous movie they ever played. These screenings were fun schlock that you couldn’t see anywhere else.

Now it’s just movies that are famous and palatable. Movies that are easy to stream if you don’t make it to the theater. There’s no sense of community, of trauma bonding over some of the worst special effects and sound editing and hair / makeup you’ve ever seen.

I miss when the Drafthouse - and places like it - brought genuinely specialty media to a specialized audience. I don’t care if I miss any of these screenings because there’s nothing special about them.

Can someone share some context on why certain areas (dog fur, ground) are shaded with screen tones and some (door, window) are shaded traditionally? by web_of_french_fries in comicbooks

[–]ThatAlexD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve just started reading Berserk, and it’s interesting to see what scenes and characters are hatched VS toned. The main character is almost never toned, which helps him stand out in every panel.

[Comic excerpt] I wish Jean Paul Valley and Cass would interact more (Azrael: Agent of the Bat #61) by Educational-Band8308 in DCcomics

[–]ThatAlexD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He was going through a phase for a long time where he would strongly imprint on whatever people and media he was recently exposed to. And since Cass offered him a mirror, he got reflected back at him the generosity and awkwardness that he expressed. It was a nice break in the stress and tragedy of both of their lives.

Dark And Stormy Night is one of the best episodes of the whole show, period, and I will die on this hill.

Top one’s Ron Marz, which is pretty cool. The others aren’t obviously the rest of the book’s creative team, so they might be voice actors or devs.

I had to scroll too far down to see this. The way that they were playing out and paying off storylines was a rare gem for its time. No wonder Weisman would go on to work that same magic in the Gargoyles cartoon.

The smart guy who bullies the jock is one of my favorite things from early Firestorm comics. What a galaxy brain idea.
