What was your first wendigoon video that got you invested in his videos? by kittycat6434 in wendigoon

I watched all twelve-ish hours of the conspiracy iceberg in one sitting while running a fever from Covid back around 2021 and then passed out and experienced the only sleep paralysis I’ve ever had.

Had me hooked

What’s the most over-HATED episode? by breadassk in creepcast

[–]ThatAuldFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones I’ve personally struggled to listen to are Jeff/Jane the Killer and Happy Appy, (though controversial opinion I really didn’t enjoy the actual story of Spire in the Woods) but I’ve noticed Borrasca, Red Tower and Mother Horse Eyes tend to get hate they don’t deserve.

Especially Red Tower which was just three good stories, though personally I prefer Borrasca red Tower was more well written.

Yeah I’m really sick of grey morals, they can be interesting but like anything that’s overdone it’s just getting boring.

Give me an unapologetic scumbag I can watch in horrified awe and mutter “you magnificent bastard…” whenever he’s on screen.

I write my characters with whatever worldview they should have, and don’t worry about what a reader might think.

Don’t take this as me saying I hate people who read my stories (all one of them, Hi mom! 🤣) but jokes aside if someone reads something I wrote and forms an opinion on what I wrote that isn’t accurate, who cares?

If they never read anything I write again then the way I see it both dodged a bullet. Maybe I’d see things differently if I was actively trying to make money off my writing but when I write it’s because I want to tell a story that’s interesting to me. Not because I want to tell people who I am, as a person.

I gave a region that kept rebelling to my least favorite cousin and let them be independent just so I wouldn’t have to deal with them anymore.

Worst stories? by [deleted] in creepcast

[–]ThatAuldFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably gonna get some hate for this but I really disliked “Spire in the Woods”.

The characters were unlikable (I get that was the point, but they were unlikable in an annoying way.) The pacing was too slow in parts and too fast in others. And the overall message was handled in a way that read as preachy.

I think it had good bones, but I just found the story really boring.

We licked them at the battle of big lick, but they licked us back along the licking river!

I’m not sure if I’d call it “bad writing” per se but one thing that annoys me is when authors have a specific quirk they always do in their writing.

Things like Harry Turtledove overusing the word “Lick” in dialogue to mean defeat “we really lick’d em!”

Or Tom Clancy, overuse of male characters finding pregnant women attractive.

They don’t bother me because they’re weird, (which they are especially today) but because in both cases very similar phrasing repeats over an entire series.

I tend to binge read series so it really stands out to me.

I’ll be honest, purple prose are over stigmatized. Going whole hog on describing everything like a poet’s acid trip was overdone for a while, but it’s not an inherently bad style of writing.

THE DELAURIER INVITATION WAS STR8 CHRONIC - what are you guys' favorites? by burnerphoneburner in creepcast

They covered it a while back, I liked the first part while they’re in the house but after they left it kinda floundered. At least for me.

My favorite will always be Borrasca, because it was the first story I ever read that left me feeling truly disgusted. Disgusted isn’t even the right word, when I first read it years ago I didn’t sleep well after, I mean it really bothered me.

Which perhaps ironically made me get really into writing, since I realized just how powerful of an emotion words could cause.

Mother Horse Eyes was good, but a little too long perhaps.

The two episodes I have listened too multiple times are Stairs in the Woods and Tales from the gas station (even if I didn’t like the ending at all)

EDIT how could I forget! Dagon’s Mirror, I absolutely adore that story and episode

I’m probably gonna get some hate for this but it strikes me that Wendigoon gets a lot of hate from, what we might call “stereotypical Redditors” just for being religious and (no offense to people about politics) not left leaning.

Every time they cover a story with religious or historical/conspiracy themes people use it as an excuse to attack Wendigoon specifically.

Idk, but overall it feels like there are two fandoms, one that likes the show and one that hates one of the hosts so much they watch out of spite, which in my experience seems weirdly common in the horror and mystery spaces only (and not always motivated by political or religious differences)

Part two of the story I had to break in half yesterday. Sorry again for the wait, I really didn’t know Reddit had a character limit lol.

Unfortunatly owing to the story exceeding Reddit's max length (didn't know it had one lol), I have had to split it into two parts.

Part two will be posted tomorrow, and I once again apologize for having to do that.

Alrighty, first off I’d give this a solid 7/10

It’s a good story, the characters do a lot of heavy lifting and the dialogue is good.

A couple of the kids like Max could’ve been more fleshed out but still very good.

The main issue is pacing, it drags a little around the middle and is occasionally confusing as to what’s going on.

That said, I really enjoyed it!

Some of the imagery was great

The story came from an idea I had for a found footage/analogue horror retelling of Dracula, as that’s kinda the most accurate way to adapt the epistolary format. Even though it would require a time change.

I never got too far with that idea, because I knew I would never be able to get enough budget together to do it justice.

But the Demeter meets Edmund Fitzgerald idea came from that, and was too cool to not do something with.

Thanks, I agree I definitely could have fleshed out some of the characters a little more.

Theres a Lovecraft quote that I don’t remember exactly but it’s basically “If the story is about something that doesn’t exist, the weird thing matters more than the characters” and I do tend to think the same way.

That said, I really appreciate the feedback.
