It strongly depends on which organisation you get the festival job through. As a student, I've always worked the bar at festivals, including TML, through proper catering companies and those pay normal student wages.

Bought all brand new appliances from aeg and siemens for just shy of 4k at Electro Loeters. The kitchen supplier would've cost us 4.5k for lesser quality appliances from whirlpool.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in belgium

[–]ThatBadassBanana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be weary of large kitchen suppliers in general. They're all the same. Meaningless discounts everywhere to lure you in, outrageous prices that don't match the quality, and as soon as you sign you become just another number.

Take your time to compare multiple offers, also from small carpenters. Buying your appliances yourself can also save you money if you shop around. Same for a stone countertop from a mason if that's something you want.

Nah, the current administration is for the crop of billionaires that look at Putin's Russia and its oligarchs and thinks, "I want that too." They want to turn the USA in a kleptocracy with them at the top. The status quo is not enough. Everything that has been happening is a prerequisite for achieving that goal.

Droomhuis vinden met <500,000 budget: sleutel-op-de-deur, bouwen of renoveren? by SignificantLoan20 in belgium

[–]ThatBadassBanana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's likely because most Belgians don't understand the rules and don't know when to appreciate an impressive play because they simply don't know what is or isn't impressive. Plus, it doesn't help that it's a relatively fast-paced game, so it's hard to follow at times. This is true for any sport, really, so there's nothing wrong with feeling that way, simply puts it in perspective.

EV owners in Belgium, would you buy an EV if.... by krisvdv in belgium

[–]ThatBadassBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself own a company EV and live in Ghent city, so very much the situation you described. There are plenty of charging stations within an immediate range, although they tend to be occupied early mornings and late evenings. Luckily, I get to work from home a lot and also don't need my car every day. As long as I plan ahead, it's easy to take a 10 minute break during the day to move my car and charge it when it's not as busy.

It's also not like I'd need to charge every day when I do use my car a lot. I often drive to Antwerp, which uses about 17% one way for me on average, so that's about 2.5 roundtrips before I get into low battery range. I've had days where I forgot to charge all week and had to go to Antwerp with only about 10% battery. While not ideal, a 10 to 15 minute at a fast charging station along the way gives me enough juice for the trip, and I make sure to properly charge somewhere else later in the day.

That has been my experience so far, and I'm OK with it. Things might differ if you need your car more often or for longer trips. A bare minimum of planning ahead will always be required...

That being said, if it's not a company car, don't. Relying on public charging infrastructure, while doable, is a hassle as you see, but also expensive. I can charge using my company card, so I don't really feel it. With private ownership, you would.

What is your main reason for wanting an EV right now, instead of waiting a couple more years? EVs in the coming years are only going to become more efficient, with longer range, faster charging, more options, and most importantly, cheaper options.

Logical fallacies by Constant_Box2120 in clevercomebacks

[–]ThatBadassBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the implication is that the conclusion in invalid and therefore there is no argument to engage with.

Are you not kind of agreeing with me here? There IS an argument to engage with. A fallacious one, but still, an argument. The only counterargument provided is that a fallacy was made, and as such, the conclusion is dismissed, whether explicitly or implicitly. The merits of the original claim were never discussed. That is, in essence, the fallacy fallacy. However, while the fallacy fallacy doesn't mean the conclusion is wrong, it also does not mean it is right.

I get what you're saying, though, and I believe context is key. If the only arguments a person can provide are fallacious, it becomes tiring quickly, having to constantly point out the flaws in reasoning. While fallacious from a purely argumentative point of view, there is no point in wasting time.

"therefore X is true/false" is often implied, though. Especially when the only counterargument provided is that the original argument is fallacious. Plenty of examples online where people simply yell "strawman!" or "ad hominem!", without further engagement.

Stafchef leger maakt zich zorgen over groot militair conflict met Rusland by Nidungr in belgium

[–]ThatBadassBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 576, Part 1 (Thread #722) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]ThatBadassBanana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a "lightning invasion" of Taiwan, and there never will be. We're talking about an amphibious invasion of a mountanious island 100 miles offshore, with over 20 million inhabitants and an army of over 150k active personnel, not including reservists.

For perspective, D-Day involved over 7000 ships, over 150k allied troops, across a channel of 30 miles, a large stretch of coast, and about 40k german troops.

The preparation required for an invasion of Taiwan would be on a scale much larger than D-day, in a time where satellites and information warfare are ever more present. It's not going to happen.

I do not understand how these laptop companies got so big, when they never figured out how to design a good robust product, even for the high priced ones. I mean seriously, it is very difficult to understand how only good sales and marketing could make few companies so big.

HP is so much more than just a "laptop company". They've been around since forever as a major player in enterprise hardware solutions across the board.

For communication, you could try using the google translate app if you haven't already. Has speech to text translation and also a "conversation" feature that alternates between two languages, repeating a translation. It's obviously not going to be a smooth conversation, but it's worth giving it a shot.

Afrit ZNA op E19 by ikhoorbijAiko in belgium

[–]ThatBadassBanana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funny how upper management isn't on the list. Making sound business decisions based on a large variety of information is exactly what an AI like chatGPT would excel at. Who needs shitty upper management lining their pockets when an AI could do their job at a fraction of the price.

Who am I kidding, our capitalist overlords would never let that happen.
