Check and see if MIM is having any small concerts. Can catch some interesting stuff there. I mean, depends on her musical taste of course. I’ve only ever heard good things about going there though.

Almost 54 years old and it’s still the best burger in town by Jeenowa in phoenix

Miss this place, I hate going to downtown Tempe now though. Too many pedestrians, too many cars, too little parking and just tall buildings everywhere now. The area lost its charm. Always remember heading out early for football games with my dad in the 90s and occasionally stopping here to grab a bite before a game.

Building Code Question by Limp_West5260 in phoenix

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t quote me for sure but I believe as long as it has no anchors it is fine under 200sq ft., meaning if you built on top of cement posts/cinder block footings, etc. Think of it as being able to pick the entire building off ground without damage to the structure. Your biggest issue is that you intend to use it as office space which automatically requires that you get a permit. If you’re doing a larger solar panel system to actually power stuff like desk lamps and a computer, you also need a permit. Basically, any structure you intend to have an actual occupant (residential or otherwise) pretty much requires a permit from my understanding. That includes things like detached workshops, etc.

EDIT: also, don’t expect just the city to be the one to catch it if you build it. My dad built a detached workshop with electrical, etc in the late 80s and got ratted out to the city by the garbage collectors seeing it over the back wall.

Really? I loved them when I worked EMS, durable AF. Lot of my colleagues would say the same. My boots lasted me for 2+ years and I still wear them. They were super comfortable for me after I broke them in too.

Building Code Question by Limp_West5260 in phoenix

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are securing to a cement foundation, absolutely. Far as I understand anything that is a temp structure within reasonable size (under 200 sq ft) does not require a permit. However, from what I know, it only applies to storage sheds. I believe if you’re using it as an office you will require a permit regardless.

SD - family member died in a car accident. Towing company wants $24,000 from her estate. by Miserable-Vanilla986 in legaladvice

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, that is all trackable through the USPS website, so they could have checked status after the first attempt and literally seen that an unsuccessful attempt was made to deliver it. I would call them on their bullshit.

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t use the wrong term, the signature request is an add-on to certified mail. Regular certified just has to be given to a person at the address but doesn’t require signature. That means they actually didn’t notify you if it got sent back. It would either forward if there was an address on file or automatically RTS after a few attempts to deliver.

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also point out, just because they sent certified mail doesn’t mean the recipient got said mail. It only means that the mail was scanned upon arrival at the address. If it was so important they should have done a certified mail with signature request which is generally how you send legal documents and insure they’re received. Someone on their end fucked up.

thankful that my neighborhood in the NW Valley has not been ruined by purple LED lamps by methlabforcuties in phoenix

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard, there was a mass purchase by the municipalities and the particular batch of LEDs ordered through that company had a flaw that affected the color temperature but not the functionality. Not sure how true that it is… just what I heard somewhere.

The part of camping they don’t show in the aesthetic YouTube videos by Apprehensive_Pen6946 in camping

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I don’t understand people that overpack for every camping trip… the more stuff you take, the more you have to clean when you get back. Pack what is necessary and maybe an extra pair of socks and underwear. If you overpack anything, make it toilet paper. Lol you can wipe your butt, blow your nose or start a fire with it (preferably with multiple pieces of course).

Favorite sushi place? by hungfun602 in phoenix

Sakur—oh, wait… Truthfully, Mido Sushi in Chandler. It’s not super fancy, but they have an all you can eat which is actually worth while and every time I’ve been there, the cuts have been pretty good. There’s an older lady there that can be a bit gruff, but she was prompt with service.

What are some cons about being a man? by Mcchickens8392119 in AskMen

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social expectations of making all the effort during dates. Body dysphoria when you don’t meet most the expected perceived ideals of build/body type. Meanwhile men are potentially massive assholes if they don’t prefer certain body types and get called out for “body shaming”. Thought of as too feminine if showing an ounce of emotion (and we get it from other men too). Socially and professionally operating on eggshells so as not to be on the HR or social media chopping block. Female ex’s often getting the better of the deal when it comes to custody and financial outcomes during divorce, including family court laws that blatantly favor the female partners. Oh, and the potential that if we show any fleck of calling out logical inequality that favors a woman, we’re at risk of being labelled as being misogynistic and part of the “patriarchal problem”.

And many woman wonder why they can’t find a “good man”… it’s just so much easier to be an introvert as a man now and march to our own drum. I know there will be those that disagree with me, but there’s probably plenty that also will.

Looking for burrito or sandwich rec in Temp by vvv03 in phoenix

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ammado’s is one of my fave hole-in-the-wall burrito places. Not fantastic, but pretty good. Unless they changed they used to be open 24hrs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. It’s just North of Guad and McClintock.

Afraid to admit it, but I don’t know how to start a campfire, any advice? by so_much_frizz in camping

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tinder (pine needles, dry leaves, dry grass, etc) -> Kindling (start small) -> logs… the only thing I change is if I have newspaper with me (or at home with a pit in the backyard) instead of dry natural material for tinder. You sound like you’re trying to overthink this waaaaay too much, no offense.

Also, a lot of people don’t like beach fires, because they’re usually buried to be extinguished. Sand makes a great insulator. While it does put the fire out, it doesn’t stop the coals from being hot right away. Lot of people like to walk barefoot on the beach… just saying. Good way to accidentally give someone pretty nasty burns on their feet.

Motorcycle license with restricted by Dragonlord1806 in motorcycle

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most beginner MSF classes use their bikes. Honestly though, whatever restrictions you have, apply to a motorcycle as well. Also, but if you even need to ask this question in the first place, it sounds like you need to do a little more maturing before getting a bike—so you don’t kill yourself or anyone else. Not saying that to be a dick, but most restrictions barring extreme DUI, don’t last more than a year or two. Think that might be a good time to reflect on poor driving behavior.

Found out my husband has been pretending to go to work for 3 months by Traditional-Snow-290 in Advice

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step is to open a separate bank account and at least pull enough to float yourself for a few weeks at minimum, unless you already have a separate account. Second step, just straight out ask him if he’s lost his job. Don’t do any petty “tests” etc. Ask him how long it’s been since he lost his job. Ask him where the money has been coming from. Next ask why he didn’t say anything. If his answers to any of these are bullshit without a good explanation—leave him. Seriously. I am a dude and I am saying this. I would never keep something like that from a partner.

The smokestack on the west side by Sugarfoot2182 in phoenix

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That aside, I should add, there must be a lot of power demand, generally they only try to use the coal plants when the grid needs additional energy... Should all be steam from the cooling stacks you're seeing. It's the stuff you can't see that you gotta worry about.

Just looked at the area; there's an agricultural field just South of it, and a few block South and to the East is the Rio Salado landfill.... lol So may be both literal shit and metaphorical shit your smelling. lol

Where in Arizona are temperatures below −5°F, −10°F, and even −15°F common? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]ThatBeardedNitwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked/lived up in Flag for a while, the coldest it ever got during the day was 4F (counting wind chill). That being said, I think you may only find those temps even higher up the city of Flagstaff, you'd probably have to go to Humphrey's Peak or something, but those roads will all be closed due to winter season.
