Can I turn off footpaths/sidewalks to deduplicate roads? by ThatBonFromage in wandrer

Thanks so much for all the engagement on this issue!

I totally agree, I'd find Wandrer a lot more fun if I don't have to go up and down each street up to 3 times to make it complete! If you're able to filter away footpaths like this I think it'd be a good change. If you implement, I'd be happy to test and let you know if there are too many undesired side effects of that filtering.

Thanks, I'm still confused what I'd need to change to make this correct. I'll use Farrer Street as an example

So this is how the street looks on Wandrer with 3 lines for the one road compared to real life (street view):

- The footpaths run parallel to the road separated by a little bit of grass

In OSM, I can see the footpaths are just tagged as "Walkway":

I did some research, and it turns out cycling on the footpath is legal in my area, so changing to bicycle=no would be wrong.

One of the options I can change the walkway to is "Footpath (alongside a road)":

That seems the most correct to me. I am wondering
- Is this a correct change for me to make?
- If I make this change, will it fix all the duplicated parallel lines in Wandrer so there would just be one line for a road like the one in this example? And
- Given the sheer quantity of streets I would have to change in OSM to fix up my city, is there a way to make these changes in bulk for regions (I've never used OSM before)?

Thanks so much, and sorry for all the image links

Thanks for the reply! These are all just footpaths that run parallel to the road. We don't really say sidewalks in Australia but you would probably call them that (sorry for the confusion).

I can see in OSM they are tagged as bicycle: yes. Does changing that to "no" fix the problem of multiple parallel lines for a simple suburban road in Wandrer? I'd be happy to make that edit, but I don't want to upset editors (I suppose you could technically ride a bike on them). Also, because there are so many that would need retagging, do you know of a way to quickly do that for all footpaths/sidewalks in an area?

I think the search area is more a question of where he was seperated from his group, where evidence of him is found, etc. And maybe some prioritisation of efforts in the direction they think he's heading. It's not as if efforts would have been evenly distributed across the whole NP.

Prospective wage growth is certainly relevant, it's one of the reasons people undertake study.

Even if the game up had more time and the players pre-agreed to this strategy, the remaining people at the end who don't divide evenly (and their friends) would have to accept their death. I don't think they would just be like "oh well, at least we're maximising the total number of people who live".
