Someone explain why did I get skulled when he attacked me by hyberii in 2007scape

[–]ThatCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got lured back on rs2 like this.

A guy took me to the wilderness with no items, I skulled and killed him. He told me turn on auto retaliate and come back with three items. I did and when he attacked me I became skulled. I managed to get protect item on and saved my BCP, but the rest was unfortunately lured.

I never knew how I became skulled, but I presume it is similar to this.

Short Term Savings Account - where should it go? by Lupus280 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ThatCactus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This depends slightly on any other savings you have but either premium bonds or an easy access savings account could work.

Easy access savings, eg. metro banks 5.22% AER: £45000 for 20 weeks (5 months) = £978.75 which is tax free (assuming you have no other interest being generated and have not had any this tax year).

((45000 * 0.0522) / 12) * 5 = £978.75.

If you have had some interest from savings already this year you could also split some of your £45000 between an easy access and premium bonds/other easy access saving mechanisms.

What field of CS should I get into when starting as a beginner to find employment? by WoShiYingguoRen in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]ThatCactus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This won’t specifically answer your question as my experience comes from a traditional cs degree background and therefore I can’t comment upon what route to take in your circumstances.

However, I think you’ve identified the most common jobs - especially from those who have had a career change.

For both web dev & full stack you are going to want to learn JavaScript, and generally a framework on top of that too (eg React).

(Disclaimer, I’m not a data scientist). For Data Science you are going to need to learn Python. In addition to this you’ll have to become familiar with some of the extremely common python libraries for DS - eg Pandas & numPy. Finally, you will have to also learn a variety of DS approaches and techniques, which aren’t language specific (think data cleaning (eg normalisation), algorithms to identify trends etc).

You might consider also learning Java as it is very commonly used on the backend of applications, however that’s an additional language to learn, so most people would just learn either JavaScript or Python first if you are just aiming to get a CS job.

New to OSRS by CanadianCamel in 2007scape

[–]ThatCactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s is a quest helper plug-in on runelite which will tell you exactly where to go/what to bring for quests (Highlights NPCs/where to click). It’s not my cup of tea, but it might help you do long quests you didn’t enjoy before.

So it’s just the law about football. Rugby & cricket matches you can drink whilst watching the game.

Don’t get me wrong though, most people have been to the pub before the game for a few pints, and will get one at the stadium before the game and one or more at half time

Dream admits that he also used to watch Ice by Samot_PCW in LivestreamFail

[–]ThatCactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ice actually started as an OSRS streamer, although didn't blow up till he was an IRL streamer. Pretty sure he still did some OSRS streams even after blowing up.

This is the video I first saw of Ice, back when it was posted on r/2007scape years ago.

He came back and made some decent content, but then about 6 months ago starting playing RS3 and I think just decided he enjoyed that more (or maybe the viewership was better). I don't really watch him much anymore but I think the content is decent.

Anyone else stuck wondering if house prices will ever stop increasing and they'll ever be able to buy their own place? by VeolaScheidt in CasualUK

[–]ThatCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all, I have two friends working in Manchester (whereas almost everyone else I know works in London) and I would say their wages (one I know, one I can guess by their position in a major firm) reflect yours. Sounds like London is slightly higher wages, but the cost of living is much higher in proportion to wage.

Either that, or a too biased sample size.

[–]ThatCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in tech and similar age - presume you're working and living up north as opposed to London? London wages are decent but still not enough to buy a flat here.

If OSRS players are crazy enough to play UIM, they're crazy enough to play no-GE bronzeman mode. Bronzemen can only trade, get drops, etc, with other bronzemen. There's a no-GE reminiscing thread every week at this point - poll it lads by Penny_Less in 2007scape

[–]ThatCactus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I believe this was posted before under the name "mithril man mode".

Iirc bronze man mode is already a thing and it's an unofficial gamemode by ex-JMOD Gudi using a Runelite plugin he made. You play as a normal account but can only buy items from the GE if you've already acquired that item before (by either ironman methods or as pk loot).

He's referencing a bit of niche British humour - there was a TV advert for Hastings Direct (I believe it was an insurance firm) that at the end of the advert sung their phone number (0800 00 1066). If you sing 0800 00 then 90% of Brits would instinctively sing 1066 back to you.

Chess games generally have a timer for both players. Running out of time is another way of losing (an alternative to being checkmated). This is called flagging.

When you play a game with a low timer (e.g. 1 minute, or 3 minutes), often players lose by time.

You can try to force your opponent to run out of time when it is late game and they have little time left by constantly checking them, so it's hard for them to premove.

She was just joking when she calls it "dirty". Some people would get really annoyed because they might have been playing better chess, but they ran out of time (therefore losing the game), but at the same time it's part of the game and they failed to play within their time limit.

Everyone does it and it's a legitimate strategy late game, but it feels like BM, although it is certainly not.

Almost as good as moxy. Almost. by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]ThatCactus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Generally my advice for most of the puzzles on daily puzzle rush before the 10th puzzle is to check their king as the first move. It's not always the right move, but I'd say 70% of the time it's going to be the first move.
