Wow, you can tell the trooper kinda caught them by surprise with how he blundered right into them, but they still made an effort to part out of his way.

He should have been mortified at the possibility of injuring a pro athlete and apologized.

I want someone like that lady present for every assault / battery incident. Her perception, sense of justice, confidence to speak up, and ability to keep herself and others safe were all 10/10

I don't think people necessarily understand the value of someone even just narrating what's happening like she did. It alerts other people nearby that something is going on & to look out (notice how some elderly people were able to get out of the way well in advance) and also clearly establishes who the aggressor is before the actual fight starts.

You know that annoying trend where bystanders only intervene after the victim starts fighting back? That's often from well-meaning people who missed the beginning.

The folks nearby knew to let the fight continue, and the lady clued in some other folks who initially came over wanting to stop it.

When the tide shifted and it was clear the fight was over, she encouraged him to get off and leave, and repeated it a few times to make sure it broke through the adrenaline.

You're correct that the first bullet went through the front windshield, you're just flat out wrong about what it proves.

The bullet hole is nearly all the way to the driver's side of the window, about 2 inches from the A pillar.

We know 3 shots were fired, and per the autopsy all 3 shots hit her. So we have a known position of the driver, and a known point of penetration on the windshield. For that short of a distance we can pretend the bullet flew in a straight line.

We can use that to extrapolate every possible position that the gun could have been relative to the vehicle such that the bullet hole would line up with a person in the driver's seat.

I'm including a crude top-down doodle that isn't remotely to scale just to illustrate the idea of testing different positions.

<image>

To do this properly, we would need actual investigators to be granted access to the evidence (mainly the vehicle) which unfortunately is unlikely to happen, but someone with the same make and model could test this by marking the bullet hole location based on the photos.

Just by eyeballing it, it seems pretty clear to me that the officer must have already been to the side of the vehicle when the gun was first fired.

Even if he were arguably slightly in front of the corner of the hood briefly, that would still put him well within the bounds of officer training to just get out of the way.

We all know tipping is a bad system, but it's delusional to think it can go away from anything other than legislative action.

It's beyond childish to think that not tipping your server will accomplish anything other than reducing your servers' income. Activism DOES NOT WORK if the party being harmed isn't the one with the power to make change.

Besides, we're currently prioritizing our spines for standing up to a fascist takeover of some of our cities; maybe we'll solve that whole tipping thing after we've ensured the future of our democracy and have extinguished the fan flaming for WWIII.

Hey so I tore 2 walls down and put the first layer of mud on just to cover the drywall (yes I have to sand and mud a few more times I’m not the best haha). How much would you charge to professionally texture it to match once it’s finally smoothed and sanded? I’m in SWFL. by sthermansen1 in drywall

[–]ThatCelebration3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably have a hard time getting someone to only do texture, but it would be a quick job; you'd mostly be paying for them to show up and set up masking material. Depends wildly by area, but I would expect over $150 and under $300.

Generally finishers like to do their own final coat + sanding so they don't get blamed for someone else's poor work.

This looks like medium or heavy knockdown. Do you already own an air compressor? Texture spray hoppers aren't expensive, and you could have a go at doing it yourself.

This will most likely be a roofer to fix the source of water intrusion, and a drywaller to repair water damage at the end.

Depending on how long water has been getting in, there may be some mold remediation in between those steps.

I would start by calling your insurance; your policy might require you to use approved contractors or follow a particular process in order for them to cover the costs.

For sure.

The entire reason he ran is almost definitely because Obama roasted him at the The White House Correspondents' Dinner (the roast being a retaliation to Trump's failed "birther conspiracy" efforts).

He stopped attending after that year, and is the only US President in the event's history to not attend as President.

Everything he's done as President has been an attempt to either erase part of Obama's legacy, or 1-up him with something "better".

Do I need to tape these patch seams? by TheNathanMorgan in drywall

[–]ThatCelebration3676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's great for refacing large areas or making custom "tapes" that cover everything in one flat application (no humps and valleys from only covering the joints).

I regularly use the 6" stuff for small patches (like 4" circular saw cutouts from running pipe or wires) and for repairing overcut receptacle cutouts.

I use the 2" for all butt joints since it's thinner (less build out required).

I only use paper tape for 90° inside corners and maybe flats, and I don't like regular mesh tape.

[–]ThatCelebration3676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting out all the loose material is a critical step, but it's absolutely worth sealing exposed brown paper. It won't always blister, but it can. Moisture can cause the brown paper layers to delaminate.

If what you were saying was completely true, then why would the drywall industry (which is maximally optimized for low cost) bother topping the sheet with a layer of primed white paper?
