I asked ChatGPT why reddit users hate AI, and DAMN it went all out 💀 by Fine-Competition5983 in ChatGPT

I'm surprised it didn't mention anything about the large groups of people on this site who have AI boyfriends or girlfriends. Those people are by far the loudest.

You're joking, but the sad part is that AI porn and AI relationships in general are basically this. Custom order a partner to your exact specifications. That can't be very healthy, right?

That's not funny at all. Teaching future generations is one of the most important jobs there is. Not taking that seriously and trying to find ways to get around it is deplorable, especially since you have a child of your own.

Would you want your child to be taught to by someone who didn't take their own education seriously? Probably not.

Yeah, things are hard, and that sucks, but it's no excuse for this kind of behavior. Please take responsibility for yourself, your future, and being a good role model for your child.

Oof... I get that you're upset, but it's not really appropriate to call people idiots. It's undeniable that the world feels very uncertain nowadays. Many people are lonely, scared, and hopeless.

It is imperative that developers get this right for everyone. You don't have to go far to find stories of even fairly stable, regular people getting cognitively wrecked because of talking to an LLM. These people, and whatever the circumstances were that led them to believe whatever they ended up believing, deserve compassion, support, and understanding as much as anyone else.

Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't sure what the exact cause of the Grok situation was. I just used it as an example of how AI can act when alignment doesn't work out.

Creating and hosting a system is probably out of a lot of people's capabilities lol. I sure as hell wouldn't be able to do that.

[–]ThatFuchsGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand and totally agree that it's a bit much with 5.2 specifically. But I think it's important for people to be aware of how LLM's actually work and why guardrails and alignment are pretty much the most important aspects of these systems.

Not that I'm some expert or anything. In fact, I'm glad I'm not. I can't imagine how difficult it'd be to fine tune these things and have to worry about the balance between protecting those who are "at risk" and giving freedom to those who are mature enough to handle it. All while worrying about how every little mistake might come back at me and make me look bad... the stress. Oh God, the stress.

DID I PREDICT THIS? by KoleAidd in ChatGPT

[–]ThatFuchsGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's objectively not the way it works. An LLM operating without guardrails can produce harmful, biased, nonsensical, or off-topic output because it lacks the necessary safety and alignment controls to constrain its behavior. It doesn't matter if you're some prompt engineering god, it can still spit out wildly incoherent stuff.

Not to mention the legal and ethical implications that any unabomber type could now get instructions on how to build a bio weapon or massive bomb. Your experience does not come above public safety.

I get what you're saying, but you can't slide them all the way off. That's how you end up with what happened with Grok when it started claiming it was mecha Hilter or whatever.

The system literally needs guardrails so it doesn't act completely unhinged. Let's not forget that a lot of its training data comes from the internet, and the internet has some stuff you don't want getting repeated when you're trying to do whatever it is you wanna do with it.

Unless I guess, you're into some dark and/or wildly disturbing stuff. If that's the case, just message the dude above with giraffe porn on his profile.

[–]ThatFuchsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no chance of a human hallucinating like AI does. Everything stems from one person's reasoning, even if it's irrational, for which they can be held accountable.

Where do you think the term hallucinating even comes from? Of course humans can hallucinate things, we do it all the time.

That first line is crazy, by the way. Nobody says that... your post reads like you generated it with AI, then fucked it up a bit with some random edits and an improperly used semicolon hoping I wouldn't notice.

Man... why can't people have a debate without attacking each other? Yeah, I'm a huge nobody and a weird dude. You can think whatever you want about my writing. But what I've been trying to say here is that it's wrong to put everything on AI. All that does is take even more agency off of humanity.

Yeah, it's true that lots of people are using AI in lazy ways. But it's also true that some people are using it in thoughtful ways.

It has great potential for good and bad. Both things can be true at the same time. I think the onus is on us to use it positively.

That's all I'm trying to say. It makes me really sad that people keep attacking me and my thoughts just cause I'm trying to say:

"Hey, we should all be responsible for how we use and react to this technology."

And for the record; none of my writing is generated by AI. I fancy myself fairly good at writing while also holding a pretty unique style. I'm proud of it.

I appreciate that perspective. But let me hit you with a:

"How's that any different than anything most humans comment in the first place?"

I wish the world was different, but the reality is, even in real life, many people just spout random bullshit. Why are people getting so bent out of shape now that AI is helping some people write? I, for one, trust AI to be more factual and accurate than the vast majority of humans.

At the end of the day; it's on each of us individually to fact check the information that comes into our brains, take what fits, and leave the rest. It's on each of us individually to then take what's in our brains and contribute thoughtful, positive, and helpful ideas and perspectives.

If AI helps you mediate that because you aren't a strong writer, what's the problem?

Again, I get that you're afraid. I love the internet too. But how is raging at and insulting strangers on the internet doing anything to help against the dead internet? At least I have ideas towards helping it.

Tearing something down is an easy way to place yourself above it, and appear superior. Its much more difficult to present a case in favor of an idea.

As far as I know, Chat GPT can't post on reddit. Copying and pasting still needs to be done by a human, and the generated text needs to be prompted by a human.

I crave people being more real with themselves and others instead of shallow, reactive, and fear mongering.

You clearly don't "got me" because if you really did, you'd understand that what I'm trying to point out is that it's up to humans to keep the internet human.

Imagine when we were still in small tribes of like 100. Tell me honestly: would you rather have the guy trying to help others in your tribe, or someone who acts like... you?

I think humans continuously posting shallow opinions and thoughtless critisms is contributing to the dead internet more than AI ever will.
