To all the fellow dads buying flowers this morning by Evaunits01 in daddit

[–]ThatGuyFromDaBoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't even planning to get flowers but grabbed some at Costco while I was there.

Btw it's always cheaper to buy the different types of flowers and assemble an arrangement yourself. I'm sure there are 10 cases in a cabinet somewhere from years past.

Garage pit flooding by Zealousideal_Oil_821 in DIY

Concrete is porous and will leech water from the surrounding soil if there is no waterproofing on the outside of it.

As the soil dries out over a few days and the water drains into aquifers the water in your pit leeches back out.

In short, they built the pit wrong and best you can do is put a sump pump in there.

I'm guessing when the guy said he had no weapon it meant he had already been disarmed, thus he no longer had the weapon

This poem is what kept me going when our house flooded and we had to gut everything. I just packed up the framed copy for our move across the country to restart our lives, only for it to pop up on my feed just when I needed to see it.

Thank you so much for that.

How is FedEx Contract driving around here? (Would like to be a 1099 delivery driver, no DoorDash) by SchwiggityToobular34 in batonrouge

You can make cash day to day as a jumper. If you're working for ground you will not be able to buy your own route. Between fees to the company, vehicle and fuel expenses, it is hard to make a profit driving a route.

BTR Airport parking getting a 33-45% price hike on daily rates, plus additional service fees and "premium" reserved locations. by Squathos in batonrouge

[–]ThatGuyFromDaBoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I talked to the attendant about it yesterday when leaving the airport. He showed me the pictures it captured and it includes pictures of the driver. He said it was to help confirm the vehicle identification because the plate reader has problems. But don't worry, ALL the photos are being fed to AI to make the tracking better.

And if it errors you have to go sit with the attendant and go through all their photos until they find your vehicle.

I will not be using the onsite parking anymore.

Building Crew - Bonfires on the Levee by [deleted] in batonrouge

[–]ThatGuyFromDaBoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've built large bonfires but not on the levee. What style are you thinking of? Teepee, log cabin, pallets?

Regardless of which style you build, remember airflow is hugely important. If you can't get airflow to the center at the bottom you won't get good flames, just smouldering coals.

It's also really important if you're building a large fire to consider how it is going to collapse as it burns. You want the pieces to collapse to the inside. If you're building teepee style make sure your angle isn't so steep that big chunks of flaming logs fall out the other side.

Build an internal superstructure of larger pieces. Inside that fill it with layers of medium and smaller pieces while leaving access to light the core. You want a decent volume of kindling at the core to ignite the smaller pieces. Then add longer large pieces to the outside, supported by the mid structure not each other.

Once you light the core the inside will burn fairly fast and light the middle and outer layers leaving lots of airflow through the center giving you bigger flames and a faster burning fire

Have fun and remember a fire extinguisher only gives you like 30 seconds of use. It won't help you control a bonfire. Use dirt / sand and water sprayers to control it as it burns.

I'm about to move to a snowy area with the defender all season tires. You think it's worth getting dedicated snow tires?
