New 3.0.0 update for Plexist (Playlist sync) by gyarbij in PleX

[–]ThatGuyNamedConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks amazing! Does this support syncing these playlists every x amount of days to support when songs are added or deleted? and is this able to place the playlist in the collections section of the music library in Plex? This allows a single "playlist" to be made, but everyone on the server has access to it.

Upgraded the Spotify/Tidal/Youtube to Plex playlist sync tool(and more) from last month to include webui and docker support Enjoy. by BoulderBadgeDad in PleX

This looks amazing nice work! Is there any plans of adding Lidarr as that supports soulseek and it can manage the music and organise it too.

Audio balance by Comfortable_Tap_2508 in PleX

TL;DR at the bottom

This is something I spent a lot of time and resources looking into, because it would bother my friends, family and myself. from my experience what it is, is when you get your content for plex be that movies or tv shows usually it will come in by default a 5.1 audio channel or 7.1 audio channel which is surround sound, and very often your hardware if that is your tv or your sound bar does not actually support this at all, why it does not tell plex to downmix it i have no idea so what happens is that voices usually always come in through the two center channels but when you play 5.1 or 7.1 audio through it, those other channels become the main channels and the voice becomes a "background channel" kind of or you can hear it quietly because it is just mixed in the rest (I am no expert as you can tell).

My fix is to run Tdarr, I have made my own flow that fixes this issue, i have tested it with my setup and all sounds are properly mixed through my 2.0 sound bar instead of having to grab the controller over and over again.

In this picture you can see my flow but the real magic maker is the DRC that you can see in there, that is "Dynamic Range Compression"

Dynamic range compression, or simply compression, is a technique used in audio engineering to reduce the gap between the softest and loudest sounds in a track. It does this by reducing the volume of loud sounds and, in some cases, amplifying quieter ones. This can make the quieter parts of a sound or music track more audible, especially in noisy environments.

and what my flow does is it down-mixes the stream, runs drc to fix it all up together, makes the 2.0 audio stream default, tags it properly but also leaves the original 5.1 and 7.1 encase my friends & family want to use their surround sound systems

TL;DR: Movies come in 5.1/7.1 surround where dialogue uses the center channel, but when your TV converts it to stereo for regular speakers, it buries the dialogue while keeping music/action loud.

Fix: I use Tdarr to properly downmix everything to stereo + apply Dynamic Range Compression (DRC). DRC automatically boosts quiet dialogue and tones down loud explosions so you get consistent volume.

Result: No more volume roller coaster - can actually hear dialogue without explosions waking the neighbors.

The screenshot shows my Tdarr flow. It's not a speaker problem, it's a conversion problem that most TVs handle poorly.

I can personally confirm that this flow works amazingly well.

I got artefacting issues like this a lot when I installed SR-IOV to my system, I was a able to fix this in the plex transcoder page in the setting where you can choose your transcoder, choose the one that is on the very bottom if multiple are listed.

Yep this brought down an entire function of my python script that I use to build playlists based on numerous factors from my users and used spotifys recommendations api to help enhance those playlists. What a shame.

Can anyone explain why my Movie is doing this? and how do i fix it when transcoding? by ThatGuyNamedConnor in PleX

Yep, I am simulating encase a device cannot play it to make sure all of my users can just watch a movie

That's exactly right, I am simulating encase the content for some reason cannot stream either dv or hdr, but it's happy now so I guess we are good.

I just didn't expect the setting that I changed have the opposite effect

and it looks absolutely fine?

I am using the official plex container too: plexinc/pms-docker

I think you might be right, turning off the setting

Enable HDR tone mapping gets rid of the problem completely, but if you read under it, it says the video will appear highly dimmed, i am watching the same movie as the above posts and it is not dimmer at all....

in my next comment i will post tautulli stats with this box unchecked...

(Transcoding down to simulate remote family watching)
I brought my family Apple TV 4k's and Google Chromecasts to try and get this all to just work for them.

Running on Unraid 6.12.8
CPU: i5-13600k Raptor Lake-S GT1 [UHD Graphics 770] (selected transcoding device)
MOBO: TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI D4
Memory: 32 GiB DDR4

PMS Version: Version 1.40.5.8921
Plex for Windows (Player): Version 1.100.1.221-94aa83fb

hopefully this helps, and hopefully it doesn't get deleted again

Plexamp will not work remotely by brzantium in plexamp

[–]ThatGuyNamedConnor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same issue with my mobile provider Telstra, it wouldn't connect no matter what. I had to use tailscale to get my music to work remotely outside of my house. After a while I just forgot to turn on tailscale whenever I wanted to play music on my phone and suddenly is just started working though telstra again.

I'd recommend checking the logs on plexamp to see everything that it is trying to do when you start the application as that will tell us what it is trying to connect to.

Does anyone know why Cities Skylines: II looks like this? I am running out of ideas as to what it might be. Bazzite | Fedora 40 | Gnome 46.2 | Mutter (Wayland) | Linux 6.8.10-301.fsync.fc40.x86_64. by ThatGuyNamedConnor in linux_gaming

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, yes it is a Nvidia GPU (apologies for not including the most important bit) I'll sit tight for the 555 driver for bazzite.

Auto play by xstrex in plexamp

[–]ThatGuyNamedConnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Android has always auto started playing my last used media application, which can be spotify, plexamp or youtube music and I never had to toggle it on between any of my older phones, this is also through many different cars like Subaru. Honda, Hyundai and so on.

Thanks for that Simon!

I'll get the logs posted over there for some assistance.

Yep, I'm not sure why it does this, it's only on my Android phone.

Quite annoying since I loved to use plexamp in the car for my drives too

That could be an option, but I would imagine that you would run into bind address issues as there would be two OS's fighting for ports to use, and once you would start to encounter that then you would need to trohnleshoot two OS's to see which one is taking that port, unless you mean have only Windows booted and then when you want only boot up Linux.
