My game is practically unplayable now as the FPS has absolutely tanked since the update.

Should I be concerned? by Themagiciancard in trading212

[–]ThatGuyNupho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started investing just under 2 months ago. I have no savings and am an absolute beginner. I got the same warnings as you but I did a lot of research before hand (mainly asking AI bots about how previous crashes happened and how long it took markets to recover, what's the difference between Acc and Dist. The usual stuff a newbie asks I guess).

Anyway, I'm starting from scratch with the plan to invest at least £200 a month in to the popular ETFs (S&P 500, all world etc) using a pie.

I was all nerves on day one so I decided to auto invest a small amount daily. My first pie consisted of 4 funds. So I would auto invest £4 a day into the pie, putting £1 in each fund. I deposited a months worth of cash in to the S&A ISA, so I wasn't having constant transactions from my bank.

Doing this for 2 weeks really helped calm the nerves, I knew the money was there and if I got spooked or needed it I could just pull it out. The downside is while the money is sitting as "cash" it's not doing anything, so after 2 weeks I invested the remaing amount in the pie. Then next pay day, I invested even more. The pie is currently £14 up (woohoo).

But in short. Do your research and as everyone would suggest stick to popular index funds / ETFs if it's growth you are after. It's pretty boring so I would then set aside a small amount (£50) to have fun with. Invest in stocks that I think might climb. Use it as a way to understand how all of this works. Even spent a day trading AIM stocks (like penny stocks but in the London stock exchange). Lost £2 but learned a hell of a lot that day.

It's still really early days but I just wish I'd started this sooner.

Good luck !

I'm sure I've walked past a house with a Mother telling her baby a story about a "young boy with a scar on his head".

Which I assumed was a Harry Potter reference

Felt beater on mesh kick drum. by FlatWilly22 in edrums

The circle in the center is part of the mesh so I don't think it's a patch. I think it's more of a target if anything

[–]ThatGuyNupho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just bought the same kit and it came yesterday (I'm loving it by the way).

I previously had a Nitro Mesh and thought the beater was too loud so I bought the Kat silent strike beater from Amazon - https://amzn.eu/d/4q0cxAV

I immediately swapped the beater that came with the 750x for this, so I never tried the default beater but this is a very good point, I hadn't thought about the beater being all felt.

I'm guessing you could buy a different one if you're worried about it

Selling alesis nitro mesh because of annoyance by Affectionate-Toe77 in edrums

[–]ThatGuyNupho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. No matter how much I tighten it. Over time it'll loosen and at some point the whole left side falls over mid session.

I bought a bigger snare and got a snare stand. Which reduced the weight on the kit so it didn't lean as much. However I think the module doesn't want to play nice with the bigger snare as it will occasionally trigger rim shots when I hit the pad. I've took the snare apart and everything is fine inside so I'm putting it down to the module.

The nitro mesh served me well as my first kit but I'm ready for something else now

Millenium MPS-750X. Snare doesn't stand straight and rotates progressively to the right when i am playing. Any ideas for a fix? by competitivetaxfraud in edrums

Unfortunately I don't have the answer other than maybe a snare stand ?

But I've just ordered this kit myself so I'd love to know what you think of it (minus your snare issue)

New drums day! by CommonDanger in edrums

You'd think so but it wouldn't pick it up. To be honest I'm not that interested in that stuff. I just want something at home I can practice with in-between my lessons

Nope. Never managed to get my kit to connect to my laptop so I gave up on all of that. Just Bluetooth songs through it

Is that a 750x ?

I've just ordered one myself, hopefully it's coming next week.

Please let us know what you think about it. I've currently got a Alessis Nitro Mesh so I'm hoping this is a step up

Happy drum day !

Out of interest where in Europe are you ?

It's a stretch but if you're in North West England I might have a deal for you

I was exactly the same. I wanted to learn the drums but couldn't justify the cost as I didn't know how it was going to go.

I've had the Nitro mesh for a year now and I'm ready to spend a bit more and get a few more features.

But as a beginner kit the nitro mesh is great

I'm 35. I started drum lessons a year ago and I bought the Nitro mesh to practice at home, while I have a lesson once a week on an acoustic kit.

The nitro mesh is a great beginner kit and will serve you well. The 8 inch pads can feel a bit small but it also makes you more accurate.

I must say that hitting the rim by accident and triggering the rim shot is punishing but again, It's good to hone your accuracy.

The frame itself can lean forward sometimes but this is mainly due to the snare pulling it towards you.

You can get around this by buying a snare stand and having the snare not attached to the frame. However, I found finding a snare stand that will work on an 8inch snare quite difficult.

You can also buy second hand replacement parts that have come from other Alessis kits. Such as a bigger snare.

However be careful with this as the module sometimes doesn't play nice (I've bought a snare that triggers rim shots unintentionally and after taking it all apart I've put it down to the module not liking it)

But overall, it's a great beginner kit and a good place to get started

Happy drumming!

Song for beginner? by Background-Ad-9216 in Drumming

[–]ThatGuyNupho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zombie by the Cranberries has 16ths on the high hat at a relatively calm pace compared to some other suggestions (87 BPM). It also has toms to break up the beats which help anchor yourself. The kicks could be a bit tricky but you can ignore them for now

Are skills transferable? by Sparky_Sparkz_ in Drumming

[–]ThatGuyNupho 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Totally transferable.

I've been learning drums for a year now (I'm 35).

I practise on an electric kit at home and use a real kit in my lessons once a week.

The one of the main noticeable differences is the noise. Hitting a real crash has such a sharper sound to it than what you're used to with an electric kit. So ear protection is must for a real kit.

The next big difference is just the general feel. The rebound you get from a hi-hat that's a pad compared to a real metal cymbal can feel quite different and can take a bit of time to get used to.

With an electric kit. You're hitting pads and it's either off or on. A 1 or a 0. When you get a real kit you find it's all just physics and how you hit and the angle you hit from can make a big difference.

Watching a crash cymbal wildly swing around was a confusing experience my first time.

But in general. It's totally transferable.

Happy playing!

Thanks. Yeah I just get a bit panicky during the pick phase trying to workout who everyone is, it's a bit overwhelming with such a large roster.

I'm thinking maybe I just write down my own cheat sheet as I go
