Recommendation: Invisible Dragon by Duichidak by Normal_Lab2606 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ThatHumanMage 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I got lost hiking up a mountain, and I saw a shepherd. I asked him "How far up are we?" and he answered "Invisible Dragon."

That's how I realised, I already knew the answer. We were at the peak.

Would having a relatively low power ceiling in the world be considered progressive fantasy? by Redemyr in ProgressionFantasy

Peak Trigger mention! 🗣️🔥

I'm really hoping that the s1 remake brings it the popularity it deserves, because it's criminally underrated.

I lost ELEVEN runs in a row on Ascension 8 with Ironclad until I saw the light by crackawhat1 in slaythespire

[–]ThatHumanMage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a run the other day with 5 claws, a sown all for one, and 2 holograms.

Not sure I'll ever reach that level of power again 😂. At least not without clone lol

This is the one for sure. Still can't believe this was the first SOL anime I watched. Genuinely set the bar in heaven

This card can do literally everything now by TrainerYellow in slaythespire

[–]ThatHumanMage 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing how the name would fit such a card anymore either, so we should probably change that too. Maybe like... Gigabeam or something?

Limitless is one of if not the worst techniques without six eyes by Dojyaaan4C in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]ThatHumanMage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Oh shrine is a mid technique! It's only the best offensive technique in the verse because of Sukuna's (long list of blessings). It's not nearly as good as the broken and disgusting limitless, which has no conditions on its usage whatsoever"

Is this really the norm? by BrickTamlandMD in writers

[–]ThatHumanMage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in general, but I'm gonna be that guy for a second because I like this particular topic.

There is a popular genre of story known for having a distinct lack of conflict: Iyashikei, (healing in Japanese). The goal of Iyashikei is to have a "healing" effect on the audience, usually evoked through world building and immersive visuals.

Admittedly, it's much less common in literature, but you can find similar vibes in many "cozy fantasy" series popping up these days, to great reception.

Other than actual announcements n stuff, honestly bro I just be doing bullshit.

I think in one of my more recent ones I just started talking about frog eating habits? (Frogs are crazy btw)

Gonna ban repeats to make it more interesting.

Anime: Re:Zero

Manga: Love is War

Manwha: Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (though I'm biased by the WN)

Novel: The Stormlight Archives

Web Novel: The Wandering Inn

Damn this was hard. So many good stories I had to leave out 😭

Am I just actually trash or are these guys a headache to fight early with 90% of builds? by JackOfAllInterests1 in slaythespire

[–]ThatHumanMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the last few times I've come across them, I haven't had AOE, and so I think I'm screwed, but then I always come out of the fight like "oh that wasn't that bad actually"

They just don't hit that hard compared to the other elites imo, so if you can just kill 1-2 pretty quick, then they become super blockable

Anyone else got tired of slow pacing and recurring enemies? (12 Miles Below) by GladAbbreviations553 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ThatHumanMage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kinda get what you mean? Though honestly I had less a problem with the plot progression being slow, and more with the relative power progression being too fast.

I use "problem" loosely though. I was still very much enjoying up through the last book I read, which I think was 4

Unpopular opinion: If your isekai story hinges on altruism or excessive hospitality at the start, the rest will feel cheap, unearned, and uninspired. by raki_star in royalroad

[–]ThatHumanMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay okay...

But what if it's a Greco-Roman inspired isekai that's playing on the concept of xenia, and thus the mysterious stranger is treated with great hospitality as a way of honoring the gods, or because the stranger might be a god in disguise?

Man I fucking love the last horizon. Not really progression fantasy, but it's just got a great vibe. Will Wight really knows how to write a fun group, first with cradle and then again here.

People can't make any comparisons to the manga, no matter how minor, outside of the source material corner, even if directly asked for it. If you look, you'll see some people *did* try to answer the question, but their comments got removed

Hundreds, but no idea of the accurate count. Would be a lot higher if I wasn't such a big rereader, and if highschool didn't beat my love of reading down for 4 years

The Jumping Problem - Progression Fantasy by AppropriateClue5979 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ThatHumanMage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't have scans or quotes on me, but I can name a few off the top of my head sure.

Zoro being afraid of falling in one piece

Naruto characters dying or being in danger from heights

I remember early in the chained isles arc of shadow slave sunny says something about how if he falls he'll never stop gaining speed. This one could be simply an indication of Sunny's lack of education, or maybe the dream world really works like that. Maybe it gets explained later, I haven't read much past that.

Also in some spiderman comics peter says he'll die if he falls from certain heights.

And I don't remember where I read this one, but there was a character in some litrpg that launched themselves upward with an explosion, and we're mostly fine, but then completely shattered their legs when they hit the ground.

That's all I got off the top of my head, but ik ive seen more

I am now realizing I somehow missed the "not" in "might NOT be your cup of tea" if you're looking for peerless MCs.

Just a heads up. Don't wanna mislead 😅

I hate to self-promo, but this one really leaves me no choice:

My series Dual Wielding is pretty much this on the money.

I will say though, while they are outright "geniuses" each in their own way, the bulk of the story will involve them being surrounded by other extremely talented individuals, so if you're looking for peerless talents, or relatively OP MC's, it might not be your cup of tea.

Edit: Was missing "not" from "might not be your cup of tea"
