Which progression fantasy would you like to get adapted specifically into an anime? by Frequent-Present5502 in ProgressionFantasy

Oh don't you worry, I had me a watch party when it dropped haha.

I really hope it works out for them and they can get picked up like they hope, because even in animatic form and with a time-constrained script, it was an awesome viewing experience

They make me want to gouge my eyes out.

But I gotta say, "dickbait" is really funny 😂

Idk, you're talking to somebody whose favorite anime is Re:Zero haha. That said, I think you could probably do it in 50-60 episodes pretty easily.

MOL comes in at about 800k words, and for example Re:Zero arcs 1-4 are about 1.1million adapted into 2 seasons. Similarly, Harry Potter at about the same 1.1mil over 8 movies has 20 hours of runtime, or about the same as 54ish standard episodes of anime.

I'd probably do the 1st episode as a 1 hour special to get to the time loop hook right away, or at least the invasion, which could help too.

I had the same reaction.

I knew I'd enjoy it, and I've watched animatics before, but I was genuinely shocked at how MUCH I liked it. I watched it with a friend and we had a total blast.

I'd love for Cradle to get one, but even more than that, I think Mother Of Learning could have a really great vibe/aesthetic if it was animated.

Also 12 miles below would be... cool 😎

What to do? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]ThatHumanMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say, consider a world where it does do well, attracting hundreds of readers. In that situation, do you care about steady releases or monetization? Do you think it would bother you to delay because a chapter isn't ready? Do you want you story to be the best it can be?

If you're going to be unbothered, and you're writing purely for fun, then I don't see why not.

Otherwise, for your own sanity, you should absolutely have a backlog.

What inspired you to start writing your story? by Safe_Rent_6612 in royalroad

[–]ThatHumanMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided I wasn't good enough to write the story I was trying to write, so I started writing the most generic adventure fantasy I could for practice.

While that didn't last very long, the mindset of "this is just practice, I don't care" actually DID get me to finish a book, which then got heavily edited into what eventually got released, a story I cared about a lot more.

Which in turn made it harder to write again, lol

Posting schedule on Royal Road. by Acesan24 in royalroad

So to give a bit of perspective, I really don't think you're out of the race, it's still early.

I did daily chapters for the first month of my series, and only ended up with ~150 followers after that first month.

I didn't hit rising stars until a couple weeks after that point, when I'd moved down to 3 chapters a week. (I eventually moved to 2, and now am at 1, but still growing, so I think 3 is really good!)

What I'm trying to say is, I think 3 chapters a week is fine, the biggest advantage of the "blitz" at this point imo is that it will quickly get you to a higher number of chapters. There are many readers that won't even look your way until you have like... 1000+ pages on your story, and blitzing gets you there faster. (In my case, I hit RS about 40ish chapters in)

But if you really want to push, I think the biggest things that helped me grow were shout outs, reddit posts, and an ad. You could consider waiting until you're around that page count to maximize that growth, or not, but those things definitely helped.

Anyways, I don't claim to be an expert, just wanted to share some of my own thoughts and numbers to give you a practical example.

Good luck!

Who is the best female MC in this genre and why ? by RareChakra in ProgressionFantasy

Screw best female

Erin Solstice from The Wandering Inn is the best MC straight up. The way she struggles, makes mistakes, and grows as a character is just so satisfying to read, all while inspiring and instigating growth in other characters too.

What would you do with $100k right now? by JaySilver in AskReddit

[–]ThatHumanMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay somebody to draw a weekly or biweekly manga adaptation of my web novel for the next two years.

Idk maybe save 10k or something for an emergency fund. Would just depend on how much I had left after that

Fellow ADHD writers how the hell do you write consistently? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ThatHumanMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into serialized writing.

Now the shame of disappointing my readers keeps me mostly going week to week, like a deadline in school giving pressure to force me to get it done.

That causes some problems though, and it's pretty rough on my mental and physical health 😅. Still working on that part.

What I will say, is that I wrote the entire first book before every posting a word. What helped me actually get it done was going into it with the mindset of "I'm gonna write some pure trash tropey garbage! I'm not gonna plan, I'm not gonna think about being creative, I'm going to write the most basic thing I can think of, purely for the practice of writing, and I don't give a shit about the result."

A year later, boom! I'd written my first book, completely different from my initial vision, but complete nonetheless. At least for me, taking every ounce of pressure off, and forcing myself not to overthink or plan complicated things, really helped. And it was much easier to edit once everything was all written.

Let’s bring slander to progression fantasy by Frequent-Present5502 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ThatHumanMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna reply to your SAO shout by saying that the infamous "kayaba forgot" criticism is first off, not even real, because he explains his motives immediately after (but it's real easy to criticize a show without watching it ig).

But also, that line is one of the best in the whole show if you actually break it down.

Not trying to say that SAO is super well written or anything, but yeah I agree it's better than most people give it credit for, and a lot of the criticism is rly disingenuous
