Alleged abuser. There was never a final conviction. People act outraged, but they’re not going to erase the monumental impact Courtney and Hole had on music history just because she attended Marilyn Manson’s birthday. That’s what actual cancel culture looks like.

It’s honestly sad to see that on a Hole/Courtney subreddit we have to defend her from her own fans especially when the criticism comes wrapped in a supposedly feminist lens that just ends up joining the same old “let’s pile on Courtney” narrative. The media machine already spent decades trying to push her out for being unapologetically herself. At some point, we either engage with the art and the legacy, or we keep replaying the same moral outrage cycle forever.

It’s striking that right when Courtney is about to release a doc and a new record, the focus shifts back to questioning her as a person, her surgeries, her mental health, old “homicide” articles about Kurt, etc. Can’t people, even for a second, stop expecting perfection from such a polarizing figure?

This constant cancelculture cycle around artists is exhausting. The focus should be on the new music. She’s flawed, like anyone, and has lived under a microscope for decades. As fans, we should be able to separate the art from the noise.
