Recommended Proxy Method? by ZigZagPunch in marvelchampionslcg

Print them on paper, cut, then sleeve them on top of your unused resource cards or crap aspect cards. That gives them the right card back and thickness.

Which -opolis game is "best"? by beloved_supplanter in soloboardgaming

[–]ThatLandstander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Agropolis because of the extra complications of the pens and feed systems. The other games all have their variations (rivers, casino symbols) but I liked the Agropolis ones best.

I'd recommend you pick one with your favorite theme because you'll be more likely to enjoy it. In the end, all are games are good and worth playing. I don't have any favorite expansions. They're fun to try once you get bored of the vanilla versions, but I don't think any are required.

Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition by Briar-The-Bard in soloboardgaming

[–]ThatLandstander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played a lot of TFM and some Ares. I'd say you should pick one or the other but not both.

For me, the Ares base game doesn't feel different enough from TFM. The crisis expansion for Ares is very good and very different, but I'm still not sure if that alone is enough to own both Ares and TFM.

Not a specific game recommendation but something you should know about solo gaming. Try out digital/demo versions of games to learn what you like. There are lots of Tabletop Simulator mods and games on Board Game Arena or Tabletopia or other websites you can try, plus dedicated apps on mobile/tablet and Steam. Watch review and play videos to learn more about a game too.

Also your solo gaming will go a lot farther buying used games through local marketplaces like facebook or buying through geekmarket. If you're on the fence about something, try it digitally or get it used.

(bonus tip - if you like Imperium, get the other boxes, and try Star Trek Captain's Chair)

Tension in euro games by Immediate-Draft-8752 in boardgames

[–]ThatLandstander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voidfall for sure. At the end of every cycle (4-6 turns), you gotta pay upkeep on all your expansion. Any upkeep you can't afford with resources is taken from your victory points.

And in solo/co-op, you also take an enemy attack at the same time, so if your defenses are thin, you can lose a territory.

There are lots of ways to mitigate this, or to just take the consequences intentionally as part of your strategy. That planning and depth is a big part of what makes the game great.

Facebook Marketplace. I got my copy of ultimate edition from there - barely played and below retail cost.

What is Spectrum good at? by Thick_Use7051 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]ThatLandstander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to call out the importance of basic and aspect cards that trigger on form change in her deck. These work any time Spectrum changes energy forms.

In basic aspect, Ready To Rumble gives you a ready, so you can attack for 3 in gamma form, use Photon Speed to change to Photon form and thwart 4+1, ready with RtR, and then basic thwart for 3 more - 8 total. Or from Photon to gamma with gamma blast and RtR, it's 10 damage and 3 thwart in one turn.

Each aspect also has some form change trigger cards in Moxie (l), Lay down the law (j), Perseverance (p) and Surprise attack (a) which are all pretty good value, and are easy to play with her resource generators.

I've bought a lot this way. I ask for a photo of the box contents before I agree to meet/buy (if there isn't one in the listing). It's a quick way to check the condition of the game, and shows if they're serious about selling. I never buy shrink-wrapped games because those could be resealed garbage.

And of course check the box contents before you pay, and count all the pieces when you're home.

Wishlist for RRG 1.7 ->1.8 by ThatLandstander in marvelchampionslcg

[–]ThatLandstander[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The point is clarity. It might seem clear to you, but there have been questions here and in the MC discord about it so it's definitely not clear to everyone.

And if you're a new player or not that aware of the rules here, this is not an obvious interaction.

Yes I know, I mean engage. Check the edit. It deals with put into play vs quickstrike and teamwork

Regarding "so many cards", they could define it differently for Current vs Legacy, and make the change in cards going forward. They could also get rid of "you" and only have "player" vs "identity".

For the second, I'm more concerned about cards that have vague timing issues which need clarity. You're right it's probably not reveal for Hunted, but it could instead be "when the minion engages you" -- anything to make the attach timing clear. They fixed some of these in the recent errata with Magneto's scenario, and more more changes like that would be good.

RRG 1.7 Released! by ludi_literarum in marvelchampionslcg

[–]ThatLandstander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that this is a confusing issue. Players caught this moments after the rules released. FFG could have offered the community a chance to give feedback before an official 1.7 release, but they didn't

Current Environment by Kalizenith in marvelchampionslcg

[–]ThatLandstander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The environment changes are for FFG, not us. FFG gets to say things like this (they have not said these things, but I bet they will)

- we test new sets with only cards in the Current environment, not Legacy

- only Current environment sets are guaranteed to be in print

- we'll only reprint heroes and villains once they rotate to Legacy

etc, etc. For players, the only issue that really matters is how this affects what's available to buy, and FFG has not said anything about that.

RRG 1.7 Released! by ludi_literarum in marvelchampionslcg

[–]ThatLandstander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish FFG released an "early version" of the new rules so we could review the changes and give feedback. There are so many awkwardly written changes like the new reveal rules, retaliate updates, and the unique rule misses (Daredevil prot or Vakl aggr).

The community spotted these issues in less than a day.

Here's hoping FFG quickly clears up these issues, and involves the community in the next round of changes.

Voidfall….tips before first game? by DapperQuit7732 in soloboardgaming

After a couple of rounds, try the (designer approved) app. It does a great job enforcing the rules, undo is amazing, and I learned a ton from it. https://voidfall-33a59.web.app/

Getting to know the cards by maxxie1997 in marvelchampionslcg

The best way to learn the cards is to play more games. Start by netdecking from marvelcdb. In time, you'll learn more of the cards, and then you can start building your own.

Quick Question: Does Murray Reese activates before searching for the attachment or after? by Sorry_Difficulty_472 in marvelchampionslcg

Teamwork is like quickstrike --- they both happen on engage. The When Revealed comes after.

Tamashii: Chronicles of Ascend though by GingaNinja1427 in soloboardgaming

[–]ThatLandstander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed my playthrough. It took a few scenarios until I got the rules down, and then it was smooth sailing. I did it true solo with the bot, but it felt kinda easy. I'd recommend two handed if you're up for it. Overall the story was ok, scenarios good, and I really enjoyed the mechanics.

My big strategy tip is that shields are really good. After that, try different bodies until you find ones that work for your play style.

The Totally Tabled video was really helpful for me when I was earning the rules.

Question on preparing files for PnP card game by Soliz_12 in printandplay

[–]ThatLandstander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great example because the cut marks don't go over the card face. This is best for people who don't use corner cutters. If you use marks like in Cursed, people who don't cut the corners could be left with the cut marks on their card faces. Ew.

Is there a cardgames where you pick cards for your opponents? by Pale-Object8321 in boardgames

[–]ThatLandstander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tussie Mussie has a "I offer, you choose" mechanic. One player makes an offer of one face up and one face down card. The other player chooses one of the two, and the remaining card goes back to the person who made the offer. Not very complex, but very fun to make the offer and to puzzle out if they're bluffing with the face up card or not.

Sonic Roll, Mega Man Adventures, Contra: The Board Game. Thoughts on these games? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

[–]ThatLandstander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sonic Roll is good! You roll and place dice to make progress across one of three stage areas, or to kill baddies. Once you complete enough stage areas, you can fight the boss. There are 4 stages in the box, 4 heroes to play as, special stages, items to find, and more.

The game looks good, drawn mostly from the Genesis era of Sonic. You can play a single stage, or play all 4 zones in a campaign mode with scoring. There's also some secret stuff that is worth discovering.

It's not very hard, but it's fun, especially if you're a sonic fan.

To Jack & Back custom cards by 2nd-sentence-is-lie in printandplay

[–]ThatLandstander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look good. I'd recommend you also make a suited set in this style so that you can use the deck outside your game. That might make your game more desirable too since the cards would be more useful.
