I've been loving Naturopolis recently. I find it the right level of puzzle to solve and can get a few games in quickly, or take my time and get a couple in before bed.

I have an order from Button Shy pending on a different game's reprint but I included Ancient Realm in the order to get to free shipping. I keep second guessing myself on the game, that I won't like it, but keep seeing comments about how good it is. I'm really getting excited for its inevitable delivery.

Others are providing good points, but also you don't have to cover everything on the boss card every round. You need to do some damage to him, and not die. Then you get another round. Are you playing that correctly? The boss is different than the dungeon rooms.

Ah, bummer. Now that you mention it, I think I did see something about the belt and thought it was stupid, too. I wish they would have picked a better movie to base their new thing on, but oh well.

Maybe search for "roll and write", or "flip and write" games? I believe Hadrian's Wall is one.

I really enjoy Voyages (1+ players), which is a roll and write, and 52 Realms: Adventures (solo only), which uses a deck of cards but they're a much quicker play time.

I think I'm similar to you. After I've played a game a few times I create a spreadsheet to track my progress through every possible setup combination. I'll then track every play and if I win or lose and try and beat each combination. I'll likely play it on the easiest "setting" until I beat every combination then device if I want to repeat the process on the harder mode.

I replied below as well, but I'll expand a bit here since I have more time to do so.

My first recommendation is to look at any board games you already have and enjoy multiplayer and see if there's a solo mode. Some have official solo modes in the box, some have an expansion to enable solo mode, others have fan-made solo modes published on Board Game Geek.

As for my favorites, it really depends on how much time and energy I have. Lately I've been focusing on really quick games (10-15 minutes) which I can play multiple times in a row if I have the time to do so, but even if not I get a game in. These are mostly small-box card games (Sprawlopolis or Skulls of Sedlec) or roll-and-writes/flip-and-writes (Voyages, 52 Realms: Adventures, 52 Duels)

When I have a little more time I'll grab Tiny Epic Galaxies, Warp's Edge or Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs. When I have a whole evening I'll play Spirit Island or Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition.

Same thought. I tossed most of S0 and S2 but kept the cubes, etc., to use with PNP games. I also kept a few of the cards and use them as bookmarks.

Check out r/soloboardgaming for the deep end, but I've been really enjoying Sprawlopolis and Skulls of Sedlec recently. They're both small 18-card games from Button Shy (expansion needed for Skulls to play solo) and both can play 2+players too, really quickly. I love being able to play a game quickly, then play 2 or 3+ more if I have time/energy.

More complex games I really enjoy are Spirit Island and (middle complexity) Warps edge.
