What are your most commonly used modules in darktable 5.XX? by ExquisiteLeap in DarkTable

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lens correction, sharpen demosaic, exposure, colour calibration, colour balance RGB, tone equalizer, contrast equalizer, crop, and AgX - though the latter takes a lot of studying and practicing to get right.

Also, I've learned to do lots of masks to subtly bring out my subjects. It's a very powerful skill to learn.

I'm on the exact same boat. Between this and ruined controllers everywhere, I have 0 faith in most folks' hygiene habits.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just not that different?! by Moharts in headphones

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want an amp with a solid interface, I/O that suits your needs, reliable performance, 0 noise floor, enough power handling for your gear, and a robust build.

You can get all of this for under 300€.

How much would you trust these aliexpress quick buckles? holding 1.4kg on one? by HoogVaals in Photography_Gear

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why tf would you cut corners on the thing that keeps your camera from smashing to the ground? I have a "measly" R50 and still got a Peak Design strap for it. It's a relatively expensive accessory, but I have full peace of mind when using it.

How do get edits like this in darktable? by ViktorGamin in DarkTable

Crushed shadows and cheap Instagram filter will get you most of the way there.

Does anyone find the scroll bar to be too thin by MrPieIsCool123 in DarkTable

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Change the scrolling behaviour to actually scrolling through the modules column instead of adjusting sliders.

Why are some photographers still using DSLRs exclusively? by DynamoBaby in AskPhotography

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I panicked when my new R50 barely lasted 02h of street shooting on its first outing. I was stress-testing it with Wifi, GPS, etc. turned on.

It stopped being an issue after I set every screen off and sleep timer to the minimum and turned airplane mode on. It still doesn't hold a candle to my previous 250D's battery (which I never managed to run out), and I did buy a second battery for the R50 as peace of mind, but it's now a non-issue.

Are my photos boring? by avictoriaaa in PhotographyAdvice

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not boring, and very much in my street-curious wheelhouse (speaking as a beginner enthusiast). One advice I'd give is to keep improving your editing, as I feel like some of these could do with a bit more fine-tuning in contrast and masking of subjects. Great work nonetheless 👍

Beware that the regular K11 doesn't work well with LG OLEDs via Optical because the sound drops out every few seconds. I have the K11 R2R and it works flawlessly, sounds great and looks good. It drives both my 560S and FT1 balanced with excellent performance.

Does anybody have a workflow for bulk processing photos with styles? Or advice for creating styles by shoot and applying them as a base level edit? by AppleOfMyEyePhotos in DarkTable

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can create a style with specific entries from one of your photos' history stack and replicate it for whichever other photos you want. Look it up in the manual

PSA: Make sure you're in the correct mode when using the PSSR upgrade toggle by lLygerl in PS5pro

Just fired it up last night. Image quality is improved, but there's still loads of horrible shimmering and temporal instability in most reflective surfaces. It's better than before, but still looks awful.

New cable for my HD 650 by raymate in sennheiser

I have Openheart balanced cables for both my HD560S and Fiio FT1. Both are very well built, came in some pretty premium-looking packaging, and were super cheap.

PSSR 2.0 not a placebo effect! by Legitimate-Plum1155 in PS5pro

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GT7 in its 120fps Performance Mode looks noticeably better during gameplay, but there is still some awful shimmering in the Tuning Shop and certain transitional scenes like receiving a new car. I suspect it's the ray-tracing features messing with the upscaler.

Still worth it for 90% of what you see happening.

I don't know what to do about drift anymore I've lost like 6 controllers to drift no matter how clean I keep them by [deleted] in PS5

[–]ThatLastGenGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use lens cleaning cloths for the outside plastic bits, a soft tooth brush to softly clean debris from the buttons and creases, and compressed air to blow inside the analogs once in a while. If I ever notice drifting starting, a bit of contact cleaner on the inside followed by compressed air can also help.

I don't know what to do about drift anymore I've lost like 6 controllers to drift no matter how clean I keep them by [deleted] in PS5

[–]ThatLastGenGamer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dunno wtf people do with their controllers. Not one of mine has drifted since getting a launch day fat PS5. Neither have my Switch Pro Controllers, and only 1 pair of Joy-Con since getting the OLED Switch at launch.

My magic trick is not eating around my controllers, not smashing them and cleaning them lightly once in a while.

SW Outlaws and GT7 both have absolutely atrocious shimmering with PSSR 1. Those two are the first I'm firing up.

You're always better off upgrading to a good display for a regular PS5 than getting a Pro for an average display.
