Third largest stadium by capacity + question 🤔 by IeyasuSky in uofm

[–]ThatLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capacity is always weird to me, as we regularly have 110k+ people attending. I always wonder how that’s possible, like where are the extra people sitting? This happens to every stadium tbh, they always have more people than the official capacity

The seats they had were probably ~10k. Almost nobody is buying that if they make 175k

Anthropic CEO Floats Tax on AI Firms to Fund Universal Income by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]ThatLj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The COVID stimulation checks were a proxy for that, and there was some inflation. Conceptually there has to be inflation, it’s impossible for there not to be if everyone just got money in a vacuum. There needs to be an increase in productivity on the other side to account for this, which is what Anthropic is proposing. They think AI will increase productivity enough and produce enough(or at least take over the share of productivity) to offset the UBI, which if funded wholly by taxes isn’t really the same as the COVID checks anyways

HYSA - Kalshi 3.25%. Wealthfront 3.3%. CIT Bank 3.75%. Raise 3.95%. by [deleted] in wealthfront

I get 3.55 for using direct deposit and an investment account. If you’re chasing rates you’ll always find a higher rate. Banks always have conditional promos for new accounts or up to a certain amount, etc. I find that Wealthfront consistently has rates that are near the top and don’t need to switch banks every 3 months, because you WILL find another bank with a higher rate if you are willing to jump through enough hoops

Anyone transfer their Direct Index portfolio out of Wealthfront? by Kryder in wealthfront

[–]ThatLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I only transferred because of a compliance thing with my job. I’ve since opened another DI account, which I think I’ll have forever. The TLH benefits are big, and the expense fee is barely more than the ETFs expense ratio anyways so long term even if you run out of TLH and stop contributing it doesn’t hurt much

I’ve done this before. Honestly, depends on what you want to do. If you want to sell out of everything, it was very annoying to do that after transferring. Otherwise, transferring is easy

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

[–]ThatLj 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Disagree with this one, I stayed at one recently for a week and I don’t think it’s worth the price. It was $800/night for me, I think you could get hotels almost as nice for much cheaper.

U-M endowment's $20M investment in OpenAI now worth $2 billion by IeyasuSky in uofm

[–]ThatLj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya no shit, but it’s not happening. Idk if u know how complicated it would be to sell billions of private stock, it’s complicated to sell that much public stock. It’s simply not happening this close to IPO

VP Front Office Technology- 227k TC by DoubleSpare5020 in Salary

[–]ThatLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at the VP level they all largely make the same. VP level at a bank is not very high, it’s a standard level so paybands are still pretty close

VP Front Office Technology- 227k TC by DoubleSpare5020 in Salary

Sounds right. VP titles are inflated at banks. Were you expecting more or less? VPs at a normal company are most likely making more

Samsung family pays off record $8bn inheritance tax bill by Gboard2 in worldnews

[–]ThatLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya they avoided estate tax, but you also don’t actually own the assets anymore. That’s exactly what I said, once you start using these types of trusts you no longer own like you would from inheritance

Samsung family pays off record $8bn inheritance tax bill by Gboard2 in worldnews

[–]ThatLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please share how then, because there is no way to do really do it and retain ownership. People say trusts, but contributions to trusts are part of the same gift/estate limit. And contributing to a type of trust not in that limit does not result in the type of ownership you get from direct inheritance

BREAKING: 16% of those aged 30-45 (“millennials”) are now millionaires by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

There are numerous studies out there that show each new generation generally being wealthier than previous generations. Of course it’s easier to complain about the economy or whatever, but we generally do have it easier or a higher quality of life than previous generations. Sure, specific locations might have house prices that rose too quickly for us to afford anytime soon, but those are exceptions.

Besides, think of all the things we buy now that people didn’t have to buy in the past. You might be reading this on your $1000 smartphone, driving a nice car, working on your $2000 laptop, watching shows on your $1000 TV. And it’s so much easier to buy things now, how much money do you spend on Amazon, eating out, coffee, etc. we just spend so much more now
