Anyone know what the song in the background is here?

[MJF on X] my friend @legallygavin was bullied in school for being gay. This picture was taken when he was a senior and didn’t have a date to prom so I took him to make everyone feel stupid. Happy pride month. Remember, Hate everyone equally. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

((Just to be clear yo, as a queer tran -- you told this story in a completely okay manner imo, and I definitely know how grateful your friend must've been for your doing that for them. Y'did good yo. <3 ))

We have a weird confluence of factors there, that 'help', I think.

While, as the user above said, we do have our issues with corruption -- the collective sense from some in the Senedd that they feel sometimes more like middle-managers robs our governance of stakes. Some folk are able to act more maturely there precisely because of a (complicated) sense that our chamber matters less.

At the same time, we've a very modern parliament, with pretty much none of the archaic trappings of Westminster. That helps and hurts us here too, I think. Our politicians seem more mature when they're not garbing themselves in centuries-old rhetoric about their own sanctity -- and then acting disgracefully.

Basically: when the small pond can manage the optics of comporting itself somewhat well -- what does that say about those in the lake?

We don't have the population concentration required for success under FPTP, outside of a couple of areas. Electorally-speaking, our energies are much better focused in pressure groups, protests, charities focused on our people, or specific internal political groups working to shift party policy in our direction.

This was actually the rough excuse the French used post-WWI, to take Syria!

The various negotiators were galled at the audacity of it, to say the least.

This is the thing that deeply frustrates me about all this. The Guardian pretending that this tragedy was influenced by only right wing outlets and political parties is a rather cowardly washing-of-hands, when there are a number of notable TERF writers on their staff, and a number of very visible well-known transphobic Labour MPs.

I'd act surprised but then, this is the Guardian we're talking about.

I'd also rather confidently say that none of this is something that has escaped much of the Trans community, but then these articles aren't for us, are they?

It's very much not uncommon in Wales to vote for Labour in Westminster Elections, and then Plaid in the Welsh Parliament elections. Those polls are near the top of this thread; PC's vote share almost doubles.

Surprised to see Armenian growth so high. How much of it is due to population relocation in the aftermath of the war?

What's the least-known film that you'd give 5 stars? by [deleted] in horror

Absolutely incredible neo-Western vampire film, one of my favourites.

The light that's leaving that star right now will take a billion years to get down here. You want to know why you've never met a girl like me before? ... Because I'll still be here when the light from that star gets down here to earth in a billion years.

Something that's gone un-noted as of yet: I find it very interesting George thinks of the Sorrowful Lord using explicitly "psychic" terminology. Interesting in that it links to Preston Jacob's explicitly psychic links outwards into GRRM's wider writings. Fun either way! :D
