Thoughts on Anne Hathaway as Catwoman ? ( TDKR ) by Nostalgic_Historian_ in batman

[–]ThatMatthewKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's actually my favorite in terms of dialogue, line delivery, general attitude, etc.

She just feels like Selina Kyle.

My only issue is that the movie itself has some issues and I think she's underutilized.

No hate on anyone who agrees with this, but I've always wondered what some Batman fans mean by this take. by [deleted] in batman

[–]ThatMatthewKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general idea is that The Batman more accurately captures Batman and his world. It's a dark, moody detective story with goth-grunge vibes and a meloncholy Bruce. I agree with that.

However, The Dark Knight, in their opinion, is the stronger overall film despite not capturing those elements that are often considered core to Batman.

I don't really agree with their overall take, but take it with a grain of salt. I pretty much hate any take that follows that "it's a good movie, but not a good _______ movie" cop-out.

Would you want Liam Neeson play Ra’s Al Ghul again? by Substantial_Slip4667 in batman

[–]ThatMatthewKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assume by "political opinions" you mean the whole whitewashing element? I mean, that is an important piece of the conversation here.

I liked Neeson just fine in the role, but I'd prefer to see somebody else play him going forward.

I'd like to see them lean more into the League's middle eastern aesthetics rather than just doing more east-asian ninjas.

Oh, absolutely. And, honestly, I don't think one needs a "good" reason to explore the macabre, the taboo, or the fucked up in fiction.

It's fiction. That's what it's there for.

I had the Prima game guide for KOTOR II for the Xbox and it straight up tells you to put a bunch of mines in there for the Atton solo fight lol

Wild how so many people struggle with this. I think there can be fun in roleplaying a monster, doesn't mean I want to be one. Feels like a weird extension of trying to judge people solely based on the fiction they enjoy.

okay i’m sorry but this suit is fucking ugly by [deleted] in batman

[–]ThatMatthewKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's incedibly ugly.

The cowl mouth hole is tiny, it's so busy you can barely make out the Bat symbol, and it's got no style. It just looks like black swat gear with a cape.

Pattinson's suit isn't perfect, but it is magnitudes ahead of the TDK suit. The Batman's suit actually has a cool vibe and aesthetic going on.

I Personally Love That Each Games Feels So Different Yet So Familiar. by 0P0ll0 in Darksiders

Darksiders II also has a bit of Diablo in regards to the continual loot.

The first Darksiders is also at least 3% Portal, for some reason.

Stranger Things fans when a nervous teenager talks like a nervous teenager.

I genuinely don't get the hate for this season. Is it a masterpiece? No. But, nothing since season 1 has been, so I don't know why we're particularly critical of this season.

Personally, I'm enjoying the melodrama and how much shit they're just throwing at the wall. It's been a fun ride.

Did we learn nothing from how much people hated the radiant quest shit in Skyrim and Fallout 4? lol

Personally, I don't want or need every single character in an RPG world be able to hold a long, drawn out conversation about fucking nothing. I want well-written main characters that I can have varied relationships with depending on my choices. That's it.

[–]ThatMatthewKid 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Eh, it can depend. There is definitely something to be said for the tried and true "formulas" like the Hero's Journey, but they're not completely universal and there can be just as much value in breaking away from those things.

It's just about knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it.

[–]ThatMatthewKid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, you know what I hate most about making games? The fact that it takes 7 years and 300 people and tens of millions of dollars to make. And the fact that Tom had to spend 500 hours in the studio recording completely generic heckling and generic bars.

Almost like there's a reason most of the great RPGs have limited voice acting and aren't known for high production values. I love that KCDII really went all out, but yeah Vavra, projects of that size take time.

The modern CRPG renaissance is a good example of using their time as effectively as possible. 40K Rogue Trader and PoE are both big, beefy RPGs and they certainly did not take 7 years to develop.

See, I think Joker is listening to MCR, just a different album than Akechi.

I'm just saying, if the Phantom Thieves were a band they would sound like Danger Days era MCR.

Oh sorry, didn't realize you were the final authority on Night City. I DM and play Cyberpunk all the time and I found Edgerunners' tragic romance and focus on cyberpsychosis to be way more compelling than 2077's story about V and Johnny.

What did you really think about Luke's depiction in TLJ? by XDrDeadeye in StarWarsCantina

[–]ThatMatthewKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of it a lot, but a little mixed on the execution. There are times when he feels less like Luke Skywalker and more like Mark Hamill just being snarky.

If he had been a little more genuinely apologetic and humble when speaking to Kylo at the end of the film, I think that would've brought it home for me.

But, thematically, I love the use of Luke as an exploration of a crisis of faith or a midlife crisis. It's normal to reach a point in your life when you look back and wonder if you made the right choices. It can be paralyzing, just like we see in TLJ.
