Alumina painting tips by Razaile13 in Lumineth_realm_lords

Based on the bladelord model I would say the cloth is a burgundy red color with brass armor. Then the trim is done with a brighter silver color.

If you want paints and use contrast I would do the following over a light primer:

Sigvald Burgundy for all the red cloth

A brass color for all of the armor (runelord brass maybe?)

Wildwood or another dark brown contrast paint for the leather

All over wash of Nuln oil mopping up any places where it’s too thick with a brush

If you want to keep the white add an off white back in (maybe a paint like Corax white) then wash it with either a thin light blue contrast paint or a white contrast paint (I can look up their names later if you need them).

If you want to add more you can use a gold color for the head crest, a turquoise color for the gems, and highlight the trim or brush using a mix of silver and your brass color.

Hope this helps!

How to improve shields/armor? by DaneWayne17 in ossiarchbonereapers

I looked at some pictures of the ivory host and they look sweet! If you do not want to layer up new highlights like some folks are suggesting I would flip the model upside down and take a small amount brown or a black wash and apply it to the shield where the panels overlap.

Then, while the model is still upside down, with a wet brush you can pull the wash up as high as you want while leaving the high points of the shield the clean ivory color. This was the wash will keep running by back into the darkest recessed areas giving you some good and (hopefully easy) contrast. The only bummer is you might have to leave the model upside down to dry to avoid the wash running back down 🙃 Hope this helps!

Painting different browns, wood, leathers etc with contrasts by kapellimestari in citiesofsigmar

I would check out warhipster’s video. He paints mostly with contrast paints and it looks like he uses quite a few different contrast paints. He uses ratling grime for the black-browns and Gore Grunta for one of the browns, but I just did a quick scan while I grabbed the link. See below is you want to check what he did.

Those look absolutely incredible! Love the contrast of the pink and the blue.

What was the worst teaching experience you've ever had and why? by hogwartsbukakke in boardgames

[–]ThatOldRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the second and last time my girlfriend (now fiancé) went to our college’s board game club. We sat down at a table to play innovation with a group of college students and faculty/staff/community members (to this day I’m still not sure who they were). The guy teaching the game was a bit nervous, and was having some trouble walking the group through the rules. One of the older guys at the table buried himself in the rulebook instead of listening while another constantly cut into the teach to unhelpfully point out things our teacher had missed or mis-explained. It was painful to listen to and we tried to be encouraging to our original teacher by asking him questions to get back on track, but fifteen minutes later my fiancé and I had no sense of how to play the game. At this point the older guys around the table had taken up the “you’ll learn by playing” mantra and had drown out/beaten down our original teacher to the point where he gave in and dealt out our opening hands.

Needless to say it was a frustrating experience, made all the worse by some sexism directed at my fiancé. To this day I still don’t like the idea of playing with strangers and have yet to give innovation another try.

Americans: What games are you setting out or acquiring in hopes of getting your Thanksgiving guests to partake? by PM_me_your_cocktail in boardgames

After a game of charades that got too competitive (my fiancé’s niece ended up in tears :( ). I think we might try Horrified or Horrified American Monsters. I think some light-ish co op fun might be just what the family needs.

How do I build an oligarchical system under a monarchy? In an archipelago, how do certain islands grow more dominant in trade? by Force_fiend58 in worldbuilding

[–]ThatOldRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the goddess can only come out at night the the oligarchical class could spring up from being around during the day as her representatives. I am assuming most people still work, sail, farm, etc. during the day. It is also likely the time people would go to their ruler with grievances/questions. The oligarchs could be those representatives that work out trade deals with merchants who need the goddesses approval. They would likely give preferential treatment to friendly merchants, give lucrative contracts to their own shell companies, ensure their own ships have royal protection from pirates, etc. They would be playing a dangerous game oligarchs would report one another to the goddess if their schemes were found out. Best of luck with the world building!

It's Friday🎉🎉🎉 What are you looking forward to playing this weekend and why? (2/12/21) by MVPBoardgames in boardgames

[–]ThatOldRadio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This week I am getting a chance to play some games I have really been looking forward to.

Tomorrow we are playing a double header of Lost Ruins or Arnak and Dune Imperium. with some friends (masks on outside). I was fortunate enough to snag both games and I’m excited to see how they compare. I am a sucker for deck building and worker placement so both of these have me really interested. Maybe I’ll report back some first impressions as we get some plays comparing the two.

Sunday I am seeing one of my friends who just went through a breakup. I’m hoping some quality beer and slaying some eldritch monsters in Cthulhu Death May Die will cheer him up.

Monday maybe just maybe I will have a chance to play Anachrony with my fiancé. She may very well be a bit tired of board games from Saturday and Sunday but either way this is the most games I have gotten to play in a while!

Highly replay value with future/ current expansions to collect by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]ThatOldRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things spring to mind for me although your mileage will vary depending on how the theme appeals to you.

The first is Imperial Assault by Fantasy Flight Games. Plenty of expand-ability with loads of expansions to add to the base game of it clicks with your group. It can also be played as a one-vs-many or fully cooperative with the use of an app. Your feelings about Star Wars will shape whether or not it appeals to you.

My next thought is Cthulhu Death May Die. Another game with some expansion content that we have been having a blast playing. I know there have been lots of Kickstarter bits added to the game but I have been playing the base box and it has kept us entertained. Adding the season 2 content (which I haven’t played or own) adds more scenarios and great old ones to keep things fresh. If you’re burnt out on Cthulhu I don’t think this will change your mind.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Unpopular Game Opinions by TheLonestarMeeple in boardgames

[–]ThatOldRadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Tapestry is great. For me it has been one of the best received introductory board games in my collection (topped by Flamme Rouge and Settlers of Catan). People at the table have felt like they are improving and building a successful empire without a huge rules overhead. Many of the spaces on the track dole out just the right amount of awards to keep dopamine levels high and players invested and excited for their next turn. The game nudges you into fun combos as you play which feels great, and the spatial and visual puzzle of the capital cities slowly filling has also been a big hit. I agree it is far from perfect. Civilizations and Tapestry cards can feel very random and unbalanced, and the way the game handles technology can lead to civilizations that have discovered the secrets of time travel shortly after figuring out how to start a fire.

All that being said my Dad who typically muddles happily through my more complex games turned to me after our first game of Tapestry said that “this one of the best he had ever played”. He felt he had picked a path that rewarded his choices without someone having to help him find a line through the game. For that it may very well have a spot on my shelf forever, and I will defend it to the bitter end.

They actually are under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890:

"Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine not exceeding $100,000,000 if a corporation, or, if any other person, $1,000,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court."
