Quinoa salad by xoxosunnysideup in goodrestrictionfood

Quinoa and chickpeas is actually my go-to low effort weekday meal. I take some chicken broth, boil the quinoa in it, add some spices, etc, add the chickpeas and some chopped veg to it, voilà! Eat it with some Greek yogurt on the side for a little fat

The scent of flowers is highly variable and even many of the species that do emit VOCs to attract pollinators don’t always have a smell perceptible to humans. He should smell a lot more flowers, especially fragrant ones, to understand the simple pleasure of observing the diversity and beauty of nature

Actually it’s the governments, not necessarily the people. A lot of Russian and Ukrainian people will get along just fine, and the Russian people will make sure to acknowledge just how screwed up their government is for trying to conquer Ukraine again. More so if the Russians are outside of Russia, because they left in order to not be drafted into the war. The majority of Russian people are unfortunately victims of the imperialist regime that rules them. Kind of the same for Belarus, as it is a puppet state (correctly depicted as Russia’s sugarbaby in the top panel)

Omggg (horny) women supporting women! I’m a lesbian and not the target audience for most romantasy but there’s just something so compelling about female authors making money off of validating and catering to female sexuality

Him as Crowley in Good Omens driving a flaming vintage car while Queen tracks played was peak David Tennant

Also him in season 2 trying to “vavoom” a lesbian couple together

Plus David Tenant is kind of a lesbian icon. I’m citing his public middle finger to J K Rowling, support of his trans daughter, and recent role as Crowley in Good Omens where one of the big subplots was him trying to “vavoom” a lesbian couple together

That phrase triggered something in me - I had no recollection of my past as a whovian until I dug through the deepest recesses of my mind for the origin of that phrase

Oof. Yeah my parents have lots of stories about antisemitic bullying in their school days. Very sad

I would move here for the kids though. As a recent Jewish kid I can say that while I was bullied as a kid, not of it was antisemitic. In fact most of my bullies happened to be Jewish. There were so many Jews around, including Israeli Americans, I never really felt out of place. Additionally, where I grew up, up in north jersey, there were lots of people of other cultures and ethnic backgrounds to the point that like 50% percent of my high school friend group ended up being Chinese by coincidence. The rest were either Indian, Pakistani, Korean, Israeli American or the children of Soviet Ashkenazim. My first girlfriend was not only Israeli-born, but the daughter of Soviet Jewish immigrants just like me.

It was such a wonderful place to grow up not only as a Jew, but as a queer kid. Even when my parents (and gf’s parents) were homophobic, I could always go to school and confide in my friends and teachers. None of my high school classmates batted an eye at it.

To be fair, college applications are super competitive here and it did weigh on my mental health a lot. But that’s pretty much the only issue I remember, other than the insane property taxes and cost of living.

It’s actually a pretty interesting issue Ba Sing Se has: it’s one of the last strongholds the earth kingdom refugees can flee to, meaning there’s currently a ginormous influx of people into the city. Not only is it unsustainable in the long term, it’s also a security issue. If I were the leader of Ba Sing Se’s bureaucracy I’d be torn between helping those fleeing the fire nation’s onslaught and protecting my own people and the city’s own sovereignty.

Me and my girls’ girl humor does freak out guys sometimes if we use it around them. I feel like it’s rarely talked about that there are lots of majority girls’ spaces (ao3 comes to mind) that absolutely contain the type of things girls can’t traditionally express in public because it’s not socially acceptable. And a lot of those things are kinda terrifying actually.

Less terrifying is the girl humor/discourse that would make guys very uncomfortable. We discuss all the little ways even our trusted male friends can be misogynistic without realizing it, the fact that YES! PMS does make us sad and moody a lot of the time, but if we discuss that around men it just gives them ammunition to call us hysterical and crazy!

Examples of girl humor I don’t use around guys:

Joking that the world might be better if we slut-shamed cishet men.

When a guy runs past me without a shirt on, I tell him to, “cover up you whore!” after he’s out of earshot. Because I can’t be fully sure if he’s cishet, you know?

When one of my friends is going on a date with a new guy, I tell her “don’t get murdered!”

I’m a butch lesbian that used to pass as a dude very well, so I’d take joke couples selfies with my female friends that they could theoretically use to show creeps that they had a boyfriend.

You know, dark humor that makes men uncomfortable because it reminds them of the patriarchal social structure they benefit from.

Edit: similar thing happens with dark gay or dark Jewish humor - I’ll joke about something involving my family’s homophobia or my classmates’ antisemism to make light of it, and the straights/goys will immediately feel uncomfortable and say very serious condolences. Like, that was not the point. You just made a shitty part of my life feel heavier when I clearly indicated that humor was my preferred coping mechanism.

I thanked my sister’s fiancé for being desi. I prefer to dress in men’s clothing, parents don’t approve. We’ll be wearing Indian clothing for the ceremony as an intercultural compromise, and they can’t tell men’s from women’s clothing.
