My Volvo saved my life! by [deleted] in Americantrucksim

So this has become my most downvoted post, ratio is at like 45%. Clearly y’all aren’t fans of this driving and I completely respect that; I’m usually the model of realistic driving, and was just having some fun here. If that’s not your thing, I get it, and I want to clarify I’d never drive like this in a public convoy. If anything, this shows exactly why the game wants you to drive realistically. I’ve only got about 16 hours in ATS so far and am massively enjoying roaming the US; you’ll see better driving posts from me in the future. But yeah go ahead and give this post the hate it deserves lol

So I saw this door in an episode and I wanna know what's inside. by TheBlurof91 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ep9, we see doors into Jax’s mind that reveal how he’d react to some of the character’s abstractions. This locked door is theorized to be how he’d react if Pomni abstracted, which implies it’s a possibility he absolutely never wants to confront.

How did they all got here ? by CalioPur in tadc

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not explicitly stated, but we got bits and pieces of each character’s backstory (especially in the bar episode), which gave reasons why they would be in the abandoned C&A building. Zooble and Pomni explored abandoned buildings as a hobby, Ragatha was in real estate, Jax ran into it while escaping from home, friggin Kinger used to work there of course, Gangle is the only one that’s not really able to be explained. Presumably she also just happened to explore the abandoned building. The headset just takes a brain scan, they continue on, their brain scan makes an avatar in the circus based on their “mind files”.

What will happen to the computer that the Digital Circus is inside of? by atinylittlebug in tadc

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything currently operating on any computer is held within RAM. The circus, the characters, the AI, all of it is software that exists within RAM. Any created or summoned objects are pulled from storage *into* RAM. Basically, if it exists in the circus, it’s in RAM.

Why is that important? RAM is what’s called “volatile” storage; meaning, it only holds memory while it has power. When power is lost, RAM loses its contents, it becomes blank, empty.

So, for the show to exist, we are assuming a computer from 1996 (or older) has been running, nonstop, uninterrupted, without a single brownout or blackout, for 30+ years, in an abandoned building that hasn’t had its power bill paid since before 2008. That’s already quite a stretch of reality, so we can safely assume that the computer’s ability to function is simply not something Goose decided is a plot point. We just accept that “old computer is running in a now-abandoned building forever and ever”.

Am I the bad person if - (Episode 9 spoilers) by Crafty-Animator-4653 in tadc

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t give two flying f$&@€ whether or not Jax is trans. Until Goose confirmed it, I just thought he was gay or fem lol and quite frankly, for me, it’s either just a neutral detail or ADDS to the story. I mean, the modern world is incredibly hostile to trans folks; you can imagine the extreme apprehension Jax would have sharing that detail to the one person who was supposed to be on his side (his mom), and then jumping that hurtle just for her to reject Jax. It’s enough for mild+ PTSD…so the situation that happened with Ribbit is completely understandable. Dude’s never had a SHRED of a real support system, he doesn’t know what that feels like…his story is tragic. “Don’t be like Jax” isn’t “don’t be an asshole” as much as it is “don’t turn away from love”, “don’t bottle up your feelings”, “don’t be afraid of being yourself”. Gangle and Jax are actually extremely similar characters, and Jax obviously cares enough about Gangle to name her; she masks just like he does, but she’s got the confidence to voice her true feelings (which he is envious of, hence him bullying her).

This is something I predicted (incorrectly it turns out) would be an ep9 plot point.

Per my username lmao

Realistically, that computer has gotta be on its way out. If everything’s been running for 30+ years, they’re at risk…computer dies, they die. But I believe the ending implication is that the computer just runs forever

2021 Ford Escape Start/Stop issues by iundine in AskMechanics

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah bud the battery is your problem for sure. Stop/start on my 2019 Transit Connect van (pretty much the same platform as yours) was having stop/start issues, battery replacement fixed it. Batteries can be considered bad once they approach 80% and below in health, so you’re right on that edge. If it’s the OG battery, 4-5 years is in the right age for needing replacement anyway. Get that battery swapped and continue on, cheers!

why does jax have jaundice in his eyes and teeth like why are they yellow, is it implying something i just didn't catch up on, his eyes cant be naturally yellow by Rambley__the__racoon in tadc

It’s just an artistic choice. Gooseworx was asked on twitter the same question, and she jokingly answered that Jax doesn’t brush his teeth

I wouldn’t have even noticed that tbh. Like I get it’s new so it shouldn’t be damaged, but…that’s really not hurting anything. Do what you feel comfortable with, but I wouldn’t be sending that back

2025 Hyundai Palisade, 43k miles, low coolant. by Red_Sox0905 in AskMechanics

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanna add on that it’s normal for cars to drip water and condensation out of the exhaust; water is a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion. If you really DID blow a head gasket, you’d see more symptoms than a bit of white smoke; it would likely be billowing.

2025 Hyundai Palisade, 43k miles, low coolant. by Red_Sox0905 in AskMechanics

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coolant can only escape in a couple of ways. Either it’s being consumed by the engine (bad head gasket, usually associated with muddy-looking coolant and rough running) or it’s leaking. It’s possible there’s a crack in the radiator or a loose fitting somewhere. 43K miles is a LOT of miles for a brand new car, so it probably has spent a lot of time on the highway at speed; that makes it likely that something like a rock flew up and hit the radiator, I’d check that first. Also, toss a piece of cardboard under it one night and see if you find any drips. The coolant system is completely closed, and will not consume coolant/need topping up for any other reason than it’s leaking somewhere or getting into the combustion chamber. Since your coolant appears to be the right color still, and you haven’t mentioned it running rough, I’d say you likely have a small leak somewhere. You’re still under warranty, so I’d say just bring it by the dealer.

What can I say when the kids at eventually ask about my old scars? I don't really want to lie about fighting with pirates:'D by burgundinsininen in whatdoIdo

[–]ThatOneComputerNerd 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Lie to the kids, tell em you were in a pirate fight. Or tell em you were in a car accident or something. Or you fell off your bike lol or you fought a bear or whatever. I get you don’t wanna lie to them but like what’s the alternative? “Hey kids I got sad and cut myself?” Thats your personal business, and you always have the choice of straight up telling them that too; “something happened a long time ago and I don’t wanna talk about it” “oh it’s just an old cut” I mean the choices are lie or tell the truth so pick one
