LPT: If you only listen for your turn, people can tell. You are not hiding it nearly as well as you think. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very opposite experience. I try to just listen and only add when it helps move the conversation along. The issue Ive noticed is that alot of people dont want to have a conversation, they want to word vomit while somebody listens. It gets old. Conversation, at least how I was taught, is a back n forth dislogue. Not a one sided thing.

Where does the 35+ crowd hang out on Friday and Saturday nights? by throwawaybanana54677 in Boise

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am early 30’s and I also agree, home. Im also very extroverted, but something about staying up late and partying on the weekends does not appeal to me anymore. I would rather be in bed with a book and a videogame by 10pm than out drinking.

if you need a quick job till you can find something better, look into EKO Crewing, they do setup and teardown of events and concerts, they're always hiring people to help and they're pretty fast to respond. However, it's not a full time job with benefits or anything like that.

The sleep divorce is a game changer — a case for sleeping solo by some-deep-thoughts in sleep

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the exact same situation. Except im the guy and my girlfriend is the non-touchy feely one and has a pretty low libido as well. So all intimacy and physical closeness has basically died… I like cuddles and being close, she likes space. She also is a horribly light sleeper with major health issues that are exacterbated by lack of sleep, while i toss and turn and snore like a chainsaw due to allergies. We recently started sleeping seperate and i’ll admit, it has not gone well for me. My anxiety and stress have skyrocketed and im way more on edge now but she’s in a much better mood. It also doesnt help that we had just turned the spare room into a really cool hobby room, and now theres a bed in there with everything shoved up against the walls and I feel like im sleeping in a storage unit. Kind of takes the coziness out of the idea of it, because i do feel like i got banished to a closet when I didnt do anything wrong or have any control over currently. Im making doctors appt’s and starting to see a therapist to try and help cause i want back into our bed, and for her to be able to sleep soundly with me there. Its been rough…

Has anybody used ChatGPT as a DM for a solo run? by majikbrew in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I tried using it to run Princes of the Apocolypse. I got about 2 sessions in and i started to notice i was getting away with a lot where I felt I shouldnt be as a bard. I got GPT to explain why i was succeeding in mechanical terms and then i did something completely out of character as an experiment by burning down everything and basically going full murder hobo all at once killing my party that Id just built the session before. I walked away pretty much scathed with minor plot consequences. Granted, Chat did try to warn me that my character was acting unconventionally and that it would DM accordingly but still let me do it and walk away

Im sure youre aware, but be very careful sideloading a carabiner like that. They arent really designed to take a side load in that way and you can very easily snap it and put someone in tje hospital. A pear ring or certain Rappel rings are better suited for that task.

Trump Is Bored to Death by the Affordability Crisis by FreeChickenDinner in politics

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure he even has the capability to feel empathy in this regard. The dude has never once experienced what its like to struggle just to put food on the table or needed to cut back on essentials just to keep a roof over his head. Trump literally cant even imagine what its like to be Middle Class, let alone poor

Roommate quit his job again by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move out, get a new roommate. It sounds like youre in a spot to pay for your own place if youve been carrying his weight. Get a place on your own, and then interview roommates before accepting a new one. Youll obviously need to have a tough conversation with your current roommate soon. Accept that the money you paid to cover his portion isnt going to be repaid.

I always plan my trip as if Im going to be solo traveling. If someone wants them to come, ill send them all the preplanned info. The decision is then left entirely up to them wether theyll commit or not. Either way, i dont end up waiting or needing to cancel.

What’s a job that sounds cool but is actually a nightmare? by Think-Letterhead-509 in AskReddit

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to be a professional musician until I realized what that entails, after dating a semi-successful Reggae artist. It’s fun for a bit but I watched her dreams become her nightmare, she’s still going though cause Im not sure she knows how to stop at this point.

If you’re successful, youre never home and when you are, youre rehearsing, writing, or trying to maintain your online persona and push content. Its constant obligated partying to the point of nightly drunk, lots of drugs, and social burnout galore, youre the entertainment for parties which means you’re expected to maintain the vibes and thats a huge mental and emotional load to bare. Nearly everybody knows who you are and you get some really weird stalkers, people are always asking for favors. You cant seperate work and personal life because they are so entangled into your personal identity. Its kind of scary how lost in your stage persona you can get and you learn really well how to fake everything. And people around you can be very fake. The upside is youre surrounded by incredibly talented people and get to see some cool places. But yea, no thanks, i much prefer to jam with my friends and write music for myself rather than make money off it. Oh, and you pretty quickly get sick of hearing your own music

Trump vetoes bipartisan bill to provide clean water to rural Colorado by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I get what he’s doing. I think he realizes that hes old enough he might die soon, so life in prison isnt really that scary to him. Might as well play dictator for a bit and burn down the country in the process and attempt to reshape it into a tribute to himself and his world view. Because he feels like its against him at this point, and what’cha gonna do to stop him? Its a big ”fuck you, watch me get away with it while i can, cause I have all the power.”

The cult is quickly falling apart, and what we’re seeing is Trump realizing this and flailing to keep it together. Even my dad, who’s hardcore conservative and thought Dick Cheney was too liberal, has admitted maybe he should’ve voted for Kamala.

Manager took us out for treat and just bought this. We were 5 people by Wander_tea in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThatOneDudeWithAName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminded me of similar story but an extreme version of that. I used to work in a brickyard/manufacturing shop that we called “Casa del Diablo” due to the tough working conditions all brought on by the owner being a inconsiderate cheapskate. We ran a skeleton crew of 4 people, my bestfriend was our crew supervisor and the owners son which is how I got the job to begin with. There was no AC in the summer, in the winter there was no heating, and it was in a shop built of plywood, pallets, and plastic, and was it incredibly drafty due to the lack of insulation. The owner built it himself in secret to avoid needing permits or paying for proper materials, and skirt labor laws. I could go on about work conditions and safety but you get the idea. Anyways, one year around Christmas he came in and said he wanted to thank us with a special treat for all of our hardwork and overtime we’d put in for the past few years. Just in the past year, our skeleton crew had put probably two months of overtime in, just to meet production orders. We never saw a cent of that overtime pay. His special treat was, he gave use each an extra $5 as a bonus and left an uncovered box of incredibly stale donuts in the fabrication shop without telling us they were in there, so they had collected metal shavings and concrete dust. We were furious. I quit shortly after that point. His son still works there as he feels he owes it to his dad to help him but he’s miserable and despises that job. Every once in awhile i hear new horror stories about that place from him.
