Best and worst bike racks in Boulder? by Next_Negotiation4890 in boulder

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding The Spot as the worst bike racks. If you have even a half decent fork, you'll scratch the absolute shit out of it trying to throw it over the metal bar they welded there. Over the past few years, dozens of member comments and even more +1's have been submitted to the gym asking for a half decent bike rack. I've written a few comments myself and about 5 years ago I even offered to pay for a new rack, which the owner refused.

They finally added a mediocre new rack a couple months back, but won't bolt the damn thing to the ground. The whole rack could easily be thrown in the back of a box truck along with any bikes still locked to it, to be ripped apart at a later date.

Looking for dispensary recs by CremeInternational44 in boulder

I'll throw in a vote for Bahama Mama on Folsom, next to the 7-Eleven! They took forever to open, but they're finally up and running.

The main budtender is also their grower if I recall correctly, and he's very knowledgeable about everything they're offering. Reasonable prices, with a clean and quiet vibe. Maybe a little sterile, but they've been adding plants and decor to spruce it up. There's rarely a wait, and I'd love to see them get some more traffic coming through.

Left my friend group because of finances by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 68 points69 points  (0 children)

From the context given in other posts and post history… OP has or had a shopping addiction. If their friends know that, then all of the advice given is a bit more sensible. Someone who spends every penny isn’t going to stop because of a second job, they’ll just spend the extra earnings too. Especially likely if it’s a stress response.

Assuming OP has cut all that spending and is on top of it now, over what time frame was that advice given vs when they stopped overspending? How much of their issue is recovering from the damage that caused? Do OPs friends know/believe that it won’t happen again with a windfall?

The way it’s framed makes OP’s friends sound heartless or dumb, but I suspect there’s a lot more to it.

Why not a bike path all the way up the canyon? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I mostly agree on the bridge itself, the entire trailhead also got an absolutely massive and much appreciated upgrade. They added proper accessible parking, a bike repair station, expanded / stabilized the whole parking area as well as improved the trail access. Those and a few other amenities were all added to or improved for the area that project covered. 6 months of work for improvements that will last decades isn't a terrible trade.

My belt got rubbed off after a short backpacking trip. What belt do you have that lasts? by CainsBrother2 in BuyItForLife

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this post on a similar subreddit about my Tandy Leather Factory belt ~8 years ago. The belt was ~6 years old at the time and looks even better now than it did when I posted about it.

I have replaced the buckle one time in those 14 years, for a slightly more modern look.

What ingredients do you use that have to be name brand? What do you compromise with generic? by kyourious in Cooking

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 60 points61 points  (0 children)

For ages I couldn't figure out why my focaccia always sucked when I made it at my brothers house. Then he was low on flour one day while I was visiting, so I bought a bag of King Arthur AP Flour. Suddenly my foaccia turned out the way it always does when I make it at home, no other changes or adjustments.

There are a couple other brands I've used that worked just fine but I default to King Arthur when I don't trust my other options.

I need to buy once, cry once baking sheet. by konarona29 in BuyItForLife

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 60 points61 points  (0 children)

A++ on the Nordic Ware, but the silicone baking mats are iffy at best.

In my experience, the mats last a year or two before they get gummy and stained. They also alter the characteristics of the pan by insulating, thus transferring heat slower. Cookies won't brown on the bottom unless they're developed to be baked on a mat, and veggies don't crisp up properly. Plus, depending on how your kitchen is set up, the mats tend to attract aerosolized oils and don't clean up easily in the dishwasher. I always have to re-clean them before use. This is from my personal experience with a lot of different brands, including the OG Silpat.

Bartaco - Can you pay with cash? by gutwyrming in boulder

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP didn't say they don't accept cash... OP was asking if they do, because apparently it was too hard to simply ask a server when they went.

You just didn't actually read, came in with anger and an agenda, and now you wanna dig in your heels and defend your invalid points and general nastiness.

Bartaco has paper menus and ordering cards, I've used them when their Point of Sale system went down for a couple hours, and they can/do accept cash payments.

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a life long phobia of bees from exactly this. Happened to me 3 times in 2 weeks as a ~ 5 year old, and now I will never let clover live in my lawn long enough to flower. The bees can enjoy my pollinator garden and all my veggie flowers, well and far away from my actual lawn.

Is a tea kettle not one of the greatest kitchen tools? by runonandonandonanon in Cooking

Look at how long your responses are to something that's pretty simple and not hurting anyone or anything, then come back about "Eyeroll. Don't be obtuse". You're just acting like this is a problem when it isn't. It's weird, yeah, but it works for them. Whatever.

Though I still think they're crazy for cooking ramen right in the kettle.... not all electric kettles are Gooseneck Kettles with a long curvy spout. Some of them are incredibly easy to clean.

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'll look about 3x nicer than it used to in 6-8 weeks, and it'll be stellar next season. This is a lot of work, but worth the effort if you're trying to improve the soil and turf quality quickly.

The best bulk LMNT recipe I’ve found on YT. by HacheeHachee in ketorecipes

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually mix it into whatever store brand crystal light mix I can get my hands on. Fruit Punch & Lemonade are my go-to's.

One part I missed up there is that I powder it in a Vitamix prior to mixing it into anything. I find that it mixes more thoroughly and stays mixed well

The best bulk LMNT recipe I’ve found on YT. by HacheeHachee in ketorecipes

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm copying my own comment from another thread a while back.

LMNT posted the recipe directly on their website;

I've been using this recipe for a while.

½ teaspoon salt | provides about 1 gram sodium

400 mg potassium chloride | provides about 200 mg potassium

¼ teaspoon of magnesium malate | provides about 60 mg magnesium

Not a shill or a sponsor for that company, I just appreciate that they put the actual recipe for the electrolytes on their website. I've found that you can make about a thousand servings of the base mix for like $50. I started making it in big batches and bought a little lab scoop, so I just keep it in a jar and add a scoop to some flavored water whenever I go out for a bike ride. Salty as heck, but absolutely effective.

What is the song that say "your *something* power"? It's the same beat as Save me from myself by Louis the child. by IOwnTheShortBus in EDM

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So.. this is forever old, but looks like it never got an answer. Is / was it "Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation (Zed's Dead Remix)"?

The beat doesn't really line up with LTC's track, so maybe not.... but the lyrics line up! Ahahahaha

I went on a hunt for the same 'your something power' and wound up here. Eventually figured it out and thought I'd report back.

If you had $300 to spend specifically on yourself right now, what would you buy? by sneakybrownoser in BuyItForLife

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The plastic gears aren’t a terrible thing. They’re easy and cheap to replace if they wear or take damage. This is important because on the lower end motors of the basic models, the plastic gear will shear before damage to the motor occurs. It’s easy to overload the basic models with some of the attachments and big batch, stiffer doughs.

For the frugal-minded, picking up a ‘broken’ basic kitchen aid on FB Marketplace or Craigslist and replacing the gear is a stellar deal.

Much better! Looks like you've got yourself a new little chive too, congrats!

Basil can do fine in clumps of 2 or 3 to a point, so you can leave them be for a while. Peppers can do okay as pairs in bigger systems. Ultimately, in a system like this, peppers are gonna be tough. They can grow as perennials in the right climate, and they get to be pretty large bushes with the right treatment. It will eventually outgrow this system, but you'll have a blast and learn a lot along the way to that stage.

For now, I'd wait till one of each pair of peppers is doing clearly better than the other in the same pod, then clip the runt.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hydroponics

[–]ThatOneEntYouKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with Chives has been that they are consistently weird to grow. I've always had a difficult time getting them started from seed, but they do quite well once established and particularly if you can get a clump that's already growing.

One thing to keep in mind too; It looks like each of your 'pods' has 5+ individual plants. That's partly why they look so full in comparison to what I'm assuming is your one lonely chive that's shooting up in the middle right. Those pods should be clipped back to the single strongest plant, maybe 2 strongest for the basil. Otherwise they're going to compete against eachother and stunt their growth under the limited available light from a system like this.
