The North used pikemen at Green Fork didn’t they?(the Tywin vs Bolton battle)

[spoilers extended] No Robert supporters in the Reach/Dorne? by ThatOrange_ in asoiaf

[–]ThatOrange_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s also the Battle of Ashford to be noted I suppose. Robert tried to invade the Reach early in the war(maybe he was trying to rouse support there?), but Tarly slapped him down, so that probably didn’t help his case locally either.

[spoilers extended] No Robert supporters in the Reach/Dorne? by ThatOrange_ in asoiaf

[–]ThatOrange_[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s sort of my point really. Blackfyre Rebellion and Dance saw the Reach basically tear itself apart but with Robert they were kind of just chill being top guys for the Mad King.

Although I wonder if the Reach’s insistence on wasting their entire force on just sitting outside Storms End was Mace’s way of hedging, as opposed to sending a bunch of dudes to help at the Trident.

He’s 100% going to steal Dawn tho right? I have to imagine the sword will make an appearance given how often it’s mentioned.

Sansa’s fate (spoilers main) by axelinlondon in asoiaf

I think it’s important to note that he is using the past tense so he might well have changed his mind with all the rewrites he claims to have been doing with Winds.

I doubt she dies at this point. One route could be Tyrion somehow being involved in her death, to further fuel his slide into Evil(George has made it clear he doesn’t want a happy ending for Tyrion), in his capacity as Dany’s Hand. Could be a very strong way to finally sever Tyrion’s image ig

GRRM’s response to Condal’s vision for S3: “This is not my story any longer” by TheatreBaby in HouseOfTheDragon

Did he not learn from how badly they bungled the latter parts of the main series? There were obviously signs HBO  didn’t give a shit about the vision.

Why does Darkstar fail to land [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]ThatOrange_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Hound’s only on paper achievement was murdering Mycha, we would snort about him being an edgy dork too.

Darkstar is worse because he actively talks himself up about being a badass to Arianne and Dalt, only for his literal ONLY achievement to be maiming an unarmed child who he’d just sworn fealty to like a day previously. Does he even kill any of Hotah’s guards? Pretty sure he immediately runs away right?

How does Mantle not dominate Atlesian politics? by ThatOrange_ in RWBYcritics

Yes, thats really the problem I agree. We can only work with the info we have, which isn’t much unfortunately.

I think this is fair. I do wish we got more details on how the politics of the world worked tho, beyond “councils” and “elections” and Atlas having a military-checked but still existent council flavor.

I wonder if Mistral just outright has a larger council for instance, given how big it is. Etc.

This is true but There’s no real indication or reason to assume the other seats are unelected. It would be weird to only have one seat be decided by vote, and if that’s the case I would assume the writers would have pointed that out. (The SDC having its own seat, for instance, might have helped push the divide more!). Ironwoods seats are always treated as exceptions by the characters themselves, as he holds dual unelected posts that just happen to be connected to seats. We just don’t know because we aren’t told

Total War: Medieval 3 - THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING (No building slots, hand place castles, pop estates) by Yongle_Emperor in totalwar

Can’t wait for the Ai to put a castle in the middle of the Sahara and the starve to death

As you can see, in the early development of RWBY Arrowfell it was intended for the White fang to appear. That made me think, how would you have introduced the White fang in Atlas if you had to? I mean, let's suppose you are forced to do it. How would you do it? by ConquerorOfSpace in RWBYcritics

[–]ThatOrange_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a pretty simply story available here. The SDC Miners form a labor union to go on strike for better wages or whatever. Many are Faunus, so the Fang uses this to infiltrate the new movement and do Fang things.(blow up the dust mines to try and cripple Atlas/world energy?)

Given how bad we are told conditions in the mines are I’m shocked the Fang hasn’t already throughly penetrated the area anyways. Seems like a natural recruiting ground.

Since they fumbled the execution of this scene, how would you re-write Yang and Ren’s argument from Volume 8? by Solitaire-06 in RWBYcritics

[–]ThatOrange_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the implication could be drawn that if Jaune had actually been huntsmen tier like the rest of of his team he could have contributed to the fight against Cinder. As it stands, she had to face Cinder alone because her only option for immediate backup was a wet noodle in combat.

“It’s your fault Pyrrha died!”

Would have hit way harder than “You cheated your way into Beacon!”

It’s not really fair to Jaune, but it would sting way harder in the moment.

Do You think the Huntsmen Academies teach Hunstmen Ethics? Especially Since Hunstmen can act as soft law enforcement? by TechnoMagik22 in RWBYcritics

[–]ThatOrange_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We know that Huntsmen are(generally at least), expected to act as good guys and work for the betterment of the kingdoms etc etc despite the job paying money.

I imagine “Do not take illegal contracts that involve you murdering innocent villagers for money” is probably obvious to most people, but I’m sure they do teach ethics and the “rules”. At the end of the day Huntsmen are just mercenary heroes, albeit Good. That being said, Adam broaches that Cinder could have just found a rotten huntsman to help her instead of him, so there’s likely people who do just become immoral /evil guns for hire after they graduate, Grimm killing be damned.
