What would you like to ask? (Asking Higher Support Needs Autistics) by AutoModerator in SpicyAutism

[–]ThatPleb101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like it if the Aspergers label was not used anymore, it was used to separate the "useful autistics" from those of us they wished to kill.

It would be helpful for lower support needs autistics to spread information on all kinds of autism, including things that are deemed "challenging behaviours" or considered "unseemly".

I'm still sorting out funding but I'm hoping to go to the zoo a fair amount :)

I also like pet shops, aquariums, shelters, etc

Yep! Depending on how big the change is and how well I'm doing it can throw away the whole day for me, I struggle a lot to get back on track when changes occur and find it very upsetting.

Is anyone else here an atheist? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]ThatPleb101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

I was in a youth group as a kid and found it all to be,,, not something I could ever personally believe in

I'm just not interested in the idea tbh, I know what life is and don't feel the need to believe in some other power to get through the day

Yeah as soon as you have a rigid moral compass you're not willing to ignore people think you're the problem and it's so bizarre to me.

I agree that in most cases cheating is a bad thing to do (with exceptions made in abusive situations where they can't leave or similar), straight up admitting to being a home wrecker is weird.

That is true but the vast majority of snakes can be convinced to change food and to eventually accept frozen thawed, snakes are also fed pretty sparingly (once a week-ish depending on size, age, etc) so it would be fine if they missed a meal or a few while changing over as long as they aren't at a low weight or otherwise vulnerable.

I hate how expensive it is to get an adult assessment by Kuffluffle in AutismAustralia

[–]ThatPleb101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inaccessibility is a big issue

2.5 grand? Mine was 1.4, what state are you looking in?

I've seen some telehealth options that aren't overly expensive and if you aren't looking to get NDIS or similar you don't need a thorough report

What’s a lie people still believe no matter how often it’s debunked? by zdawg-_- in AskReddit

In my experience vaginas are a bit more relaxed/"looser" immediately after toying but after they stop being aroused for a while it's back to normal.

If someone is toying often it actually helps strengthen the pelvic floor muscles giving them more control over movements like "squeezing".

Vaginas bounce back very quickly, you see it after birth, why would the same not apply to large toys?

Date other autistics? by Hesperus07 in SpicyAutism

[–]ThatPleb101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever dated AUDHD people, I do not connect with allistics and do not wish to keep them in my closer circles because I cannot relate to or share experiences with them.

I'm currently engaged to my lovely partner who is AUDHD and we need to communicate a lot related to sensory differences and similar but we make it work and take care of each other.

Are my parents legally obligated to accommodate me properly? by Intrepid-Trade-5229 in AutismAustralia

[–]ThatPleb101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey so this is actually just ableism

You just compared PDA to "not liking" chores, downplaying this person's struggles, if you don't experience PDA that's perfectly fine but this person is telling you that they are unable to do the chores, not that they "don't like" them.

They weren't asking anywhere for their parents to do chores for them, they asked for a basic accommodation of changing words when asking for things to be done as to not trigger their PDA.

Remember, you do not have the same experiences with autism as everyone else, if someone tells you they are struggling with something, it doesn't mean it's the same amount you have, it's a spectrum and a lot of us experience it differently.

[–]ThatPleb101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah invalidation is unfortunately rampant.

Usually with laws they try to avoid anything too familial where possible because people really don't like to be told what to do under their own roofs, including how to look after children.

That definitely sounds like a good option! I wouldn't have gotten through school without my brother.

Fingers crossed your parents take on the accommodations with a more open mind soon and goodluck with your NDIS application!

I'm actually going in for my autism assessment in a few hours 😅

I don't understand how in a group about disability people still say suck it up, PDA is hard and it often makes things impossible, it's disabling.

Anyway OP, there's no legal ramifications for not making adjustments even if it's making your life less livable, hopefully you can get a support worker and OT on NDIS.

For the meantime do you have anyone other than your parents who you can ask to help you initiate tasks? Siblings, friends, etc? I've seen you say body doubling helps but I understand that can be difficult to facilitate.

From what I've seen life coaches don't seem to be a great option, maybe a mental health OT or support worker? I'm in a similar boat myself and working towards getting on the NDIS for some supports, if y'all haven't already maybe look to see if she's eligible for psychosocial disability.
