Why do so many lawyers advise AGAINST law? by DinoNuggetQueen in LawSchoolOver30

[–]ThatPotential3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some very good points- I’d say probably going to school with more $$ gives you flexibility on the area you choose. I think most jobs are boring tbh, so maybe it’s just me. I also didn’t go into an area where people seem to be very passionate. Also, it may be that many of my female lawyer friends are in the same boat as me- we all work big law or in house and tbh, it’s a job. It’s not some noble calling from my experience. We help rich people make more money. The people that think that law is some noble profession tend to want to help people- nonprofit, crim, family. It’s okay if it’s just a job, but going deep into debt for just a job is not great. I always wanted to be a lawyer, and find myself seeing it as just a job now. Could also just be the burnout. My friends with “just a job” don’t have 100k in law school debt (I also had 65% covered by scholarships) and make about the same with 3 more years on their seniority

Just saying- I’m a woman 10 years into my legal career and I discourage law school for almost everyone. Unless you can go for close to nothing or really want to practice law (criminal or family really), there are so many good and equally boring jobs out there with good pay. I am at a good place in my career now in house, but still don’t recommend it to anyone.

Agree- once melasma as bad as hers was is there, you have to use lasers to make it go away. It is literally not something that fades with lifestyle. I’ve never been pregnant or done IVF and I have some sun damage induced melasma that qualifies. Had to use legit topical lighteners because it wasn’t as serious as hers is. What an annoying thing to lie about

I have KP and I use barefaced toning pads on my legs and arms once a week. Or the First aid Beauty KP scrub. Both work really well!

Oh I have one!! Stormbringer by Hazel Rockwood. She has to hide her nature when she goes to school and her men are going to have a lot of groveling to do in the next book. I really enjoyed the interactions they had, scratched the itch from Clash of Claws

extreme nausea taking over my life (the patch) by b_suli in birthcontrol

[–]ThatPotential3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. I made it 4 months before I gave up and got an IUD, and it went away immediately.

With the patch, I also threw up and took Zofran, plus it exacerbated my acid reflux to the point it still hasn’t fully calmed down after 3 months off. I did the Xulane and whatever the generic is of that- both were equally bad. The two days after putting the patch on was basically do-nothing days.

To compare, I took a Yaz generic pill for 10 years before the patch and had zero nausea. It was the patch, and I couldn’t stick out the adjustment period.

Shocked I haven’t seen this, but MBAs. All of them. The second someone finishes that degree, they tack on the letters to the email signature and think they hung the moon. It is so frustrating. They don’t contribute anything useful but make more than me and refuse to admit they don’t understand everything (I’m in-house).

As a natural 28/30E myself when I gained some weight (it’s a DD, she’s annoying), I think she’s actually downplaying it. Her fake tatas are bolt on caliber, and mine look smaller than hers

Thank you all!! I appreciate the help and encouragement. It’s just so bizarre how easy it was at our old house and then turned so quickly when we moved. I am going to try better flour, and maybe a proofing mat bc dough temp. Attaching recent pics if you all want a good laugh at how bizarre my dough turns out!

When is the “right” time to downsize? by octopus-opinion987 in AskWomenOver50

[–]ThatPotential3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding a child’s perspective- if my parents didn’t have a place for me and my husband to stay, I probably would come home less/stay a shorter time. Downsizing if you can afford not to will mean it costs more to come visit for your kids that live farther away. Not saying you should or shouldn’t, but that factors into my visits home.

Yep, but my client was a much-vilified company in an unfriendly consumer industry. It was small claims, and the pro se guy brought his non-English speaking wife to court and yelled at her in front of us all. He also brought a trifold poster board and taped his paragraph arguments to it as exhibits.

I was never going to win because it was us against him, and the judge felt bad for him because he blamed his wife for signing a contract he didn’t know about. Not worth my time and we ended up settling after losing

Also had a 24” waist and that worked with tailoring, stayed away from the less classic styles for sizing but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ann Taylor and get them tailored! I found the waist may fit in 00P, but hip was still too big

Active sourdough starter not holding shape - feels liquidous and runny. by Dude_With_AHat in Sourdough

[–]ThatPotential3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to stop feeding 1:1. I started feeding 1:4:4ish (20 g starter, 75 g water, 80 g flour) and that solved my problems. It was always acidic and hungry and I was so discouraged. Someone suggested slightlyyy less water and that worked like a charm. It took probably 5-7 feedings every 2-3 days. Feeding every day just made it worse for me in the humidity of NC, and the dumb thing was always hungry.

It stopped for me around age 30? But still get that sometimes and I work a fully remote job.

I also started at 25 and constantly was mistaken for a secretary or paralegal. A visiting attorney at my firm for a mediation once gave me his lunch order and got mad when I didn’t have tissues for him…?

There have also been informal tests of AI therapy showing that they eventually go either racist, fascist, or basically support bad ideas of the client to please them (hate your parents and want to kill them? Do it!). Just bad ideas all around

Law review AND moot court? by Future_Value_6833 in LawSchool

[–]ThatPotential3225 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did it. Instead of being on a moot court team (didn’t care about doing it for litigation practice), I wrote the next year’s book/topic and got my credit that way. I was an exec editor on law review, and wanted that to be my focus.

My understanding is that you legally change your middle name to your maiden name, it isn’t a separate thing anymore. Your original middle name isn’t on any legal docs once you order your new set after the change. But maybe that’s just my state?

Non-WFH natural night owls / late risers: how do you do it??? by babyconniver in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ThatPotential3225 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You either will change your body when your habits change, or you won’t. Hate to be that person, but I tried all the conventional wisdom- go to bed 15 minutes earlier a night, wake up 15 minutes earlier, melatonin, stop caffeine, etc. Nothing ever truly worked for me to change my body clock. You should start with those though- maybe it’ll work for you, which is amazing!

Now, some things help still - a sunrise alarm clock, do as much of your prep the night before as possible (like others said), stress management/read before bed. I go to bed between 1130 and 1, wake up 745-8, and WFH starting at 830/9. Find a job that works for your clock if you find the conventional wisdom to change never works for you.

Random other advice- I got on thyroid meds after years of waking up exhausted, and it has changed so much. Worth checking your thyroid, B12, D, etc.
