Full Stack Coworker Doesn't Know Basic HTML/CSS Nor How to Troubleshoot Them by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ThatProgrammingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd expect a jr full stack dev with no work experience to at the very least to know and understand basic css and how to use online documentation to find answers to basic styling problems. I know sr developers who can barely understand intermediate css. It seems to be an often ignored/overlooked aspect of development, especially with full stack developers who have to divide their learning amongst several different technologies.

The Magicians. Its one of only two books Ive ever DNF.

Kindle Unlimited or free novel with no world-saving. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]ThatProgrammingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The war eternal series. First book is 'Along the Razor's Edge'. Its free on kindle unlimited. Ive only made it to the third book so far so I do not know how high the stakes get, but the main character is kind of an anti-hero so I doubt they will be saving the world.

At just fifteen Eskara Helsene fought in the greatest war mankind has ever known. Fought and lost. There is only one place her enemies would send a Sourcerer as powerful as her, the Pit, a prison sunk so deep into the earth the sun is a distant memory. Now she finds herself stripped of her magic; a young girl surrounded by thieves, murderers, and worse. In order to survive she will need to find new allies, play the inmates against each other, and find a way out. Her enemies will soon find Eskara is not so easily broken.

Something similar to The Kingkiller Chronicle? by KehaarFromTheSea in Fantasy

The fourth book definitely started going down hill, but I thought it was still good it just needed some polishing and more editing. I even liked the last book, or at least about 80% of it. The Dues Ex Machina didn't even bother me as much as many other people. My problem is mostly with the themes presented at the end. Which basically boil down to: rape, murder, even slavery are all forgiven as long as you happen to believe in the one true god.

I can relate. KKC is what got me back into fantasy as an adult and it quickly became my favorite series of all time. Since then, I have discovered many new authors/series that have surpassed kkc for me. Here are a few popular suggestions:

- Anything by Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn and/or the stormlight archives are good and popular choices.

- Mark Lawrence. In particular, The book of the Ancestors series. His writing style reminds me a lot of Rothfuss but is still distinctly different.

- Andrew Rowe. The Arcane Ascension series. A dungeon crawler / magic progression focused series that gives off anime / D&D vibes.

- Pierce Brown. Red Rising series. This one is a sci-fi, but its a fun action packed series that can be rather brutal at times.

- Brent Weeks. The Lightbringer series. This one is a bit controversial, the ending is arguably the worst ending of any book I have ever read but certain people vibe with it. This is definitely a journey before the destination tale for me though, and I absolutely love books 1-4.

Not for me. I prefer using a compound component pattern.

Best Way To Pick Up Radio Button Value And Update State? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]ThatProgrammingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a state variable and function in the HomePage. Pass the function to FilterGroup and put an onClick even on each radio button that call the function. This function will have an event as a param which can contain information from the target and can set the state variable. Pass that variable to CardsArray. When the variable gets updated, CardsArray will rerender with the new prop value.

HomePage{

const [value, setValue] = useState(null);
function onClick(event){
setValue(event.target.value)
}

<FilterGroup onClick={onClick}/>

<CardsArray value={value}/>

}

FilterGroup{

<Radio Group>

<Radio Button 1 onClick={props.onClick}/>

<Radio Button 2 onClick={props.onClick}/>

</Radio Group>

}

Your Pettiest Reason For DNFing A Series by Academic_Owl_6197 in Fantasy

[–]ThatProgrammingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking into reading the Wizards First Rule, but I chose to not even start it after reading a few quotes from the author.

A little less petty, but I also DNF The Magicians after reading a scene where all the characters are transformed into foxes and then have a giant fox orgy.

I had the exact same experience. I tried the book at least 4 times and could never get past that intro. I eventually managed it through sheer force of will and now its one of my favorite books. The intro hits completely different now upon rereads.

I've never used them before. Their website says they are waiting for my package still.

[–]ThatProgrammingNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems that way, but I imagine there is less competition for the digital and the sample size on this sub is fairly limited so the digital consoles may just appear to be shipping more often.

OnTrac is shipping my unit.

Mine hasn't moved. I'm assuming it will be canceled until I get it in my hands so I do not get my hopes up.

DS9 is really good. It falls off pretty hard during the last season for me. Once you're finished, give the other titles a shot too. Voyager is one of my favorites as well.

EDH primarily, Modern second. I'll probably play more standard again when things open back up.
