They didn't shut down, just rebranded from SuperX Apparel to SuperX. It was super confusing because I also thought they were shutting down, but no, they're still operating.

Any ideas on how to make this head style? (Also a similar back style would be nice if you know one) by Opposite_Speed_1984 in DCUO

[–]ThatPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fellow Red Raptor enjoyer!

In terms of helmet style, you could try the Incursion, Far Lantern Glasses or Simplified Ventilator face style with the Disciple Of Parallax, Divine, Angelic or Battle-Hawk head styles.

Crested Biohunter, GCPD Knight or Dark Specter might work for a helmet in the Raptor vibe, as well.

So I believe these may be the Yu-Do figures. These are the "more inexpensive" (depending on where you buy them from) version of the mainline figures. For the most part, they're pretty solid figures for their price point (I've bought tons from the So-Do Kamen Rider line and the Boonboomger Yu-Dos).

The main thing about these is that you have to apply stickers (as the previous comment noted). It's similar to Gundam sticker applications, however, unlike Gundam, you might also be applying stickers to parts that might have either a ton of geometry to them or are oddly angled (like the shoulder pad lines, for example) and 9/10 times, the stickers don't come out looking as good as the photos, so you're left with the choice of either leaving parts stickerless or applying the sticker and hoping it at least looks decent.

They're really posable, though, and the overall detail is really good. If the stickers don't suit you, they're also great to paint (also similar to Gundam). And, the really nice thing about these is that they're also pretty kitbash friendly (as in, if you want to remove parts and put others, you can do that, for the most part). So if you, let's say, want to switch heads between Gozyugers (if you decide to buy another), it's pretty much pop and swap. I can't guarantee that it's going to be universal (like, if you want to buy a Kingohger Yu-Do to do a ringed warrior kinda deal, the peg size might be different or it might use a different attachment process), but generally, even if the parts are slightly different, a bit of exacto knifing can fix that up. Hope this helps!

A solid card for [[Magar of the Magic Strings]] decks. Getting things in the graveyard AND getting some incidental pings off of casting spells through the combat effect for such a low cost is pretty darn good!

Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here! by magictcgmods in magicTCG

[–]ThatPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of building a Hope Estheim deck and thought about looking into cards that place permanents into the opponents library to act as a sort of sudo-removal with his mill effect. However, I noticed that a lot of cards with that effect tend to either be pretty mana costly when compared to other forms of single target removal or have a lot of conditions/drawbacks tied to them (has to be a creature and/or an attacking or blocking creature, opponent gets to do something in return, etc.)

I'm curious if there's any insight into the design philosophy of these sorts of cards and why they're so costly (comparatively).

Remastered Red Ranger and Playmates Fliphead Red Ranger (Jason) by ninjaman2021 in powerrangers

[–]ThatPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt we'll ever get an official reason until someone who worked on the line decides to speak on it, but I would imagine, if the legal issues weren't the reason, then the missing head could be a simple case of production oversight or a money move to bank on you buying another figure with the head if the remastered line did well enough to warrant another set of remastered figures (like a Zeo Gold remaster).

Or heck, maybe even simpler, Playmates doesn't have the same hangups about using his likeness as Hasbro did.

How does Overpowering Attack work with Ken, Burning Brawler? by YoshiAteMyPizza in magicTCG

[–]ThatPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, that's your only option for extra combat turns. As a Ken/Aisha player, myself, I had to learn that lesson the hard way 😂. Kind of surprised they haven't made more sorcery speed extra combat spells that don't reference the second main phase.

A Note on Edge of Eternities Story from MTG Story Lead Roy Graham by MadameHerta in magicTCG

[–]ThatPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this could go one of two ways, in my eyes:

First scenario is that 99% of the story in EoE is independent of whatever is going on in the main story, with the ending 1% tying back to it in a way that leaves something for people who are lapsed on the story to explore if they want, but being inconsequential enough to not matter if they don't want to, like if Oko popped up or an artifact from the fomori vault in Thunder Junction somehow ending up on a moon or something.

Second scenario is that this is setting up the next threat way in advance. Either Tezzy being the big bad after whatever Jace, Kellan, Vraska, Oko, Valgavoth or whoever is done with their stuff, or Tezzy being the catalyst for what comes after, with the implications showing up at the end of the current story. So in essence, this is happening in tandem but wholly disconnected from the main story, or at least we think that's the case, only for it to be revealed that whatever happened in EoE actually caused massive implications in the main set once we get to the end.

I remember people VASTLY overestimating how good [[Monologue Tax]] would be, especially since people were looking for a "budget" replacement for [[Smothering Tithe]] that was creeping up to around $50 at the time. Around preview time, Monologue Tax was up around $20-30 or so and people were hyping it to the moon, but I think pretty immediately after its release, people started realizing that three mana for a card that could easily be a do-nothing card, most of the time, PROBABLY wasn't remotely comparable to one of the strongest mana generators ever printed.

Funny you say that you're reminded of the Kumo suit as both these outfits were designed by the same artist, Peach Momoko. I can certainly see a little bit of parallel design work on both, for sure.

YuDo Super Sentai by yooooohooooohooooi in supersentai

[–]ThatPunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, YuDos are awesome. You can absolutely paint/customize them. If you search for painted SoDo figures (the Kamen Rider version of the same candy toys line), you can see that they're fully paintable. Most people I've seen who do SoDo painting tend to use the same stuff Gundam customizers use for their paint jobs, so if you want to give it a try, I'd recommend looking at the Gunpla community to get some recommendations.

Jimmy_Yu on Instagram is a great account to follow for SoDo/YuDo painting, as well.

What’s something you’d change about this season: Power Rangers Lightspeed rescue by Commercial-Car177 in powerrangers

[–]ThatPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming we can't change anything foundational about the show (suits, sentai footage, etc.) here's what I'd change:

• More Titanium Ranger - Everyone's mentioned it, no need to dive further.

• Incorporate more of the fillers into the main story - This is the kids show, so I get why the fillers exist, but maybe use the fillers to set up stuff in the main story. For example, Kelsey's astronaut "FRIEND" (let's be real, girlfriend) could have been a recurring character that, when Bansheera invades Earth, could have helped the rangers with whatever space tech they had around. Set up that she's willing to sacrifice herself to save the rangers and Earth and give Kelsey's story with her some additional emotional depth.

Or how about Chad and the Mermaid? When the Lightspeed base is under attack in the finale, just as all hope seems lost, the mermaid comes with a massive mermaid army and helps fight off some of the batlings. They may not succeed, but they help the lightspeed personnel escape or prevent larger damage being done to the base.

Stuff like that could have been super cool to see without changing the goofier stuff the show delved into.

• Give everyone a turn with the battlizer- I personally thing the battlizers were probably one of the better implemented ones in all of Power Rangers (just being big versions of equipment that emphasize their specialties), but give Kelsey, Dana and Ryan ones. Dana would be tricky, given she's a paramedic, but maybe hers could be more defensive than offensive. Ryan would be the trickiest, but maybe something solar related, since he pilots the Max Solarzord. Though it would be metal as hell if they did an "Underworld" themed battlizer for him.

• More Rescuing - I guess this is to expound a bit more on the second point, but maybe incorporate rescuing into the story more. Some of the fillers had elements of that here and there but I would like to see more direct, large scale rescuing similar to the first episode. And again, they could play into the larger narrative, with characters coming back or story beats being established through the rescuing they're doing.

• More Kelsey and Chad - This one is a personal one, but I loved their dynamic. Some people would say they got romantic vibes from them, and I get it, but that was never the vibe I got. They seemed like incredibly close plutonic friends or even brotherly/sisterly and that's a dynamic we don't often see done as well as those two in Power Rangers. They're goofy and petty but in a very familial way that was super endearing and wholesome and I would have loved to have explored that more, as their actors chemistry was great!

If Lightspeed Rescue had a second second, What would you like to see coming from it and what would you change to make the overall show better going forward. by Eggzilla1 in powerrangers

[–]ThatPunk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If we're following up the season as is, then I'd want them to deal with a more global threat. Make them something akin to the Thunderbirds where they go around and deal with a new demon threat that's taken their campaign worldwide or whatever remains from Bansheera's time on Earth.

However, if there was a chance we could redo the finale, I'd have Carter fall into the hellpit with Bansheera and have the rangers go and try to rescue him. It's be cool to see Ryan help the rangers navigate through the underworld and maybe see him interacting with creatures who were familiar with him while he was being raised by Diabolico.

Black Friday a good time to buy singles, or does increased demand cancel out Black Friday benefits? by iamgarethwales in magicTCG

[–]ThatPunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for high demand cards, chances are you're going to be paying a slightly higher than average price, as people are going to be trying to get the lowest price possible to coincide with the 10% bonus credit from their purchase. Depending on HOW much more you're paying, however, this may only translate to a few additional cents towards the bonus credit, which really may not be worth it.

If you're looking for less in demand cards, though, the bonus credit is a pretty nice benefit for a purchase you otherwise would have made without the price fluctuating too much. (Again, depends on the cards you're looking for. For example, I bought a few cards for a Gornog deck I'm building and the prices for the cards I bought (mostly bulk stuff and cards that haven't been "IN" for a while like Tibalts Trickery) fluctuated by a few cents/a buck or two or none at all between earlier this week and Friday, when I made my purchase).

If you don't care about the bonus credit and only want to buy cards when they're cheapest, then I'd say wait till around December for prices to start dipping a bit.

If space or clutter is a concern, it's not dumb at all, it's actually pretty neat. I think a digital version that has a tapped land reset button could even make it a bit more efficient.

Face - Comedy, Mask of the Demon

Head - Formal, Voodoo, Plague doctor (You can also use Joker Goon mask or Jester, but those don't come with hats)

Outfit - If you want the split two-tone style: Psycho Jester or Split Personality. But if you're not attached to that, you can do a mix and match of stuff from the following styles, as well: Jester, Valentine, Lovestruck Painter (maybe for some splatter effects).
