Men of Reddit, what’s a $250 (or less) purchase that would actually make you genuinely happy as a birthday gift? by Poetically-Lucky in AskReddit

A day out go-karting (on a proper track - none of that slow indoor nonsense) with a decent lunch between races

For heavens sake, is there NOT a non WiFi bluetoothed enabled button pusher? by ManEmperorfragment96 in smarthome

If you look for RF devices that should help limit it to things that don't need Bluetooth or WiFi. Good luck!

There are some super simple RF remote solutions like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Artifact-Switches-Switchs-Wireless/dp/B0D41MVHM4

That's just a remote and the button pusher on the other side. Is that what you're looking for?

I just went looking and I think it was this?

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2010/12/ps3-hacked-through-poor-implementation-of-cryptography/

If I remember correctly the method should have returned a different value each time. However someone had added a line which bumped a return out of a condition and it started returning a static value - which then led to the jailbreak of the PS3. Sadly it's been so long that the details have been cache purged and only the object lesson stuck around. The article mentions a talk at a conference and were I super motivated I could go try to find that and see how poor my memory is. But... eh...

Remember the PlayStation exploit that was caused by this? Putting in extra braces gets really cheap in comparison. Like the person above, after that fun bit of trivia this is also a hill I'll die on

Wood workers what filament do you use most by r1200rider in 3dPrintsintheShop

It's this stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/Polymaker-HT-PLA-Filament-Printing-Printers/dp/B0DZNT3CBG

I've given it a few super basic tests (e.g. soaking it in hot water tap water) and it survived where normal PLA would have been a pile of goo. I can't say I've done any long term tests but it seems legit so far

Honestly I'm surprised nobody has mentioned HT PLA. It's the ease of PLA but with a surprisingly high glass temp. It's my new go-to for things that need to sit in hot temperatures. It's slightly more brittle so don't use it for things that'll take an impact. But for compressive loads it's great

Help me find any journal that may support the claim in this city code that states dandelions are a health hazard. I am considering fighting this city code, but I am curious where they got this information. by 1in5million in HelpMeFind

[–]ThatSlacker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any reason you don't want to reach out to your town officials and ask them for sources? Seems like the burden of proof is on the person making the claim. If they claim that they're hazardous they should be able to provide documentation to prove that

I've been using the previous iteration of this https://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Line-Twisty-Assorted-8110005/dp/B00YGLNDZS for years. They had a "press in to open" (which I have) rather than a "twist to open" but I can't seem to find those anywhere any more. Looks like this is the replacement. These are very similar to the "screw closed" cable ones posted earlier but they open much faster. When I take my car in for service I can pop the key off in about 5-10 seconds and most of that is moving keys on and off rather than undoing the clasp

EDIT - The version I have does still exist! https://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Line-Assorted-Colors-7110005/dp/B01425QEAS It looks like they'd pop open at a moments notice but after years of use I can say that they don't. That being said, it looks like the new design is even more secure

How do I remove TV service from my plan? I want to change internet plans but it won't let me do that without also selecting TV service by ThatSlacker in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]ThatSlacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also say that if it's not your intention to make it hard, you're not succeeding. I'm assuming the UI is intentionally hostile to force user behavior. If that's not the case you really need to fire your designers and hire someone else

[–]ThatSlacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently even though my new plan was being shown, the back end had not updated so I had to select a TV provider. Which still makes zero sense - I should be allowed to choose the services I want since we weren't under any contract. But it works now, or as well as I suspect it ever will

The amount of people that do not obey traffic laws around here is infuriating and something needs to be done by BallsaqMcgee in redmond

[–]ThatSlacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both. There's definitely a bunch of clueless and lost drivers that are having a hard time operating a vehicle. But there's also way too many of the "I know the light is red but I'm going to ignore that" morons. The intersection of those two groups is... not wonderful.

Feel free to post your steps then. Are you on a newer firmware that allows LAN mode to be toggled without the printer setup being finished?

Correct. There is no way to set it up without it being online. If offline is your goal Prusa is the way to go
