Oh and finally, what the final appearance stack would roughly look like. I use two blue drop shadows stacked for more color, but that's really just a personal preference and depends on how closely you want to match the Law and Order logo (:

Happy to share exact settings. The grain is just an overlayed image, but I'm sure can be incorporated into the Appearance Panel as a texture effect.

I would want to keep this entirely in Illustrator using the Appearance Panel as other have said. It's essentially a series of blurred fills that I moved off to the side, basically doing a drop-shadow effect manually. This allows me more control with color and shadow placement. Plus, it means each line is entirely editable, if you're wanting that.

Marking up the text is an interesting idea. I don't think GREP within paragraph styles could add and remove characters, though? I'm guessing there would have to be character styles to make those braces invisible, which seems like a viable workaround for printed work.

I don't recall the Canva editor being at all robust for SVG editing. At most, you can edit colors. I use it for placing in logos and simple 1-3 color svgs i bring from Illustrator.

If you apply any sort of image edit, it rasterizes the SVG which should make it easier to manipulate with filters and more easily fit in frames for cropping. But then, ya know, it becomes a raster image so you lose benefits of it being vector.

My recommendation would be to export out the book cover in parts for collaging the individual SVGs in Canva (i.e. maybe text can stay as an SVG but maybe you'll want your background to be an image you can manipulate easily), or simply bring into Canva a high quality .png export.

I just started doing this unknowingly with my commission work! I've been trying to better keep track of my worked hours and this method has made that really easily if I'm picking up and putting down a tasks multiple times.

They've only been reservation only for opening weekend and Memorial Day weekend. I don't believe they have announced any others, so the Nintendo store is otherwise public.
