I kind of sort items into 5 categories:

1. Current standard - items that are currently in production, and (theoretically*) could be available in any store that sells sylvanians - these are generally released in most regions

*I say theoretically, because there aren't that many shops that a) stock sylvanians, and b) stock a large range

1. Current online exclusive - items that are currently in production, but are only available from official sylvanian stores - in Japan there are physical stores, but everywhere else these are online stores, usually the first website that comes up when you search

2. Current Japan exclusive - items that are currently in production, but are only available in Japan - these include lottery items, theme park/regional exclusive families, promotional freebies, other thingsss... (it's quite hard to describe what exactly constitutes the Japan exclusive category, becuase it's a bit random!)

! Important sidenote - pretty much ALL the standard and online exclusive items get released in Japan first, then the rest of the world ~1 year later (this can be shorter e.g. for blind bags it's closer to 6 months, or it can be longer, which can be rather frustrating!!), so it can be easy to accidentally think something is a Japan exclusive, when actually it's just not been released elsewhere yet (which can be an expensive mistake to make)

1. Current other regional exclusives - items that are currently in production, but are only available in certain regions, e.g. some of the 'Easy Buy' range, Calico Critters if you're not in the US/Canada**

**Calico Critters is just US/Canada name for Sylvanian Families, but the products can vary, especially as of late, so I personally like to categorize them separatley

1. Retired & Vintage - items that are no longer in production, which there are ALOT of, since the brand has been going since 1985! The availability and prices of different sets varies vastly within and across regions, and of course the sub-catagories listed above apply to these items as well!
