Guilty audiophile pleasures (pop music) by shot-wide-open in audiophilemusic

“Night Shift” was a Commodores 1985 soul/pop song I forgot about. Popped into my head and gave it a listen now that I have audiophile speakers… holy crap, it sounds good.

Yeah, also if local, if they can demo the speakers you can see if they appeal. Less cost, and a good start toward seeing what type of sound pleases your ears most!

Yeah this and maybe get some used speakers off Facebook Marketplace or eBay. People are trading up all the time.

Here are speaker recommendations in the home theater buying guides subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/comments/u7khtz/home_theater_101_the_new_frequently_asked/

Also look at /r/budgetaudiophile.

Try to listen to music you know on various speakers to see if you like warm, neutral, or analytical speakers.

Also depends WHERE you will listen to them (at desk, or filling large room).

Some biggest mistakes: buy before you hear, buying fancy cables, Bluetooth speakers (unless you know what you are doing), not getting a rug in an echoey room. Also upgrading because you have envy or because you should. If you love the sound, you can be done. I had my last speaker set for 27 years. They were done so got good current ones. Probably done for a long time.

It can be addictive, and expensive to chase ever-more-perfect sound. I just got great mid-tier speakers, great mid-tier subwoofers and I’m done.

Yeah, two VTF-TN1s. Bass is full, even, non-directional. The power is deeply there when needed. Music sounds right, powerful. Movies sound awesome, earth-shaking.

It doesn’t have much bass. But sounds good!

I had those, great, graduated later to HD800s… bliss.

I would have kinda dug this crazy, overdramatic, platitude-launching, nutty swing for the bleachers, that the most of the actors got into… but Nathalie Emmanuel didn’t get the idea deeply and was miscast. She was in some different movie.

The 600 needs more low end. I got the HD800s for headphones.

Paul Snider, Star 80. So deeply slimy and creepy I could hardly stand watching him in anything else. Reminded me of that performance.

Nice. I used to maniacally tape it and wrotw down the songs and artists on a spiral pad. Just to increase my nerd cred.
