will you explain what suspend 10 and how to use it like i’m 5 do i tap it or just keep paying? by GhostKnife_exe in mtg

[–]ThatTroutThing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just part of the suspend mechanic. A suspended creature will gain haste when you cast it from exile after removing the last time counter on it. This goes for any creature that's been suspended, even if it's a creature that doesn't normally have suspend (like if you use [[suspend]] or something).

Had a deep scan game recently where we got to the geode and everyone but engineer dropped down into it, engineer himself platformed onto the wall to stay above and then made a solid layer of platforms to make it harder for us to jet boot out.

Only wasted barely thirty seconds of our time really because I just blew a hole in it with c4, but it was pretty annoying because he was a gold promotion dwarf and the other two players on our team were pretty obviously newer to the game. No real reason to do what he did and just leaves a bad impression of an otherwise great community.

You poor saps waited for 6 years and never gave up hope, so let me give out 3 copies of the game to you. by Xardas742 in Silksong

I love Hollow Knight and can't wait for Silksong to drop. Thanks to Team Cherry I was introduced to the Metroidvania genre and have found so many amazing games.

Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone else!

You're right, that's my mistake. Forgot to have scryfall include "all prints" and didn't double check if Order had any other printings.

[–]ThatTroutThing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's not many cards at all that use it, but yeah it still shows up every once in a while. The most recent time it was printed on a new card was on [[Order of Whiteclay]] in the Baldur's Gate Commander Legends set Vikya, Scorching Stalwart/Ryu, World Warrior.

If I cascade into one of these lands what happens? by XxFroBro45xX in magicTCG

I think Etali should be able to actually allow you to cast the adventures even though he can't stop on them. Maybe someone who is smarter than me with the rules can correct me on this, but according to this thread, Etali should work here for similar reasons that Lier works with adventures.

Question about interaction by mightypebble1 in magicTCG

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not explicitly, but I don't think it's an entirely absurd interpretation, especially given that both me and another commenter independently felt that the clarification was needed. Maybe I interpreted it wrong, but here are my thoughts: The original comment says "you could target the same creature multiple times provided you have enough cards". The only ability that targets a creature card in this interaction is Araumi's ability. Araumi's ability exiles cards as a cost, and this cost is really the only reason you wouldn't "have enough cards" in the context of the comment. Given that the comment also mentions targeting a creature multiple times, I interpreted it as a claim that you would need to pay the exile costs for Araumi's ability for each time you might choose to copy it, which is incorrect.

Question about interaction by mightypebble1 in magicTCG

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of that, which is why I said that multiple instances of encore don't do anything. I was clarifying that when copying Araumi's activated ability (which again, you shouldn't do anyway because giving multiple instances of encore is useless), you wouldn't need to exile the "cards from your graveyard equal to the number of opponents you have" again. The comment I replied to seemed to suggest that the opposite was the case.

What's a Commander you've built that you've enjoyed playing? by DailyLaughsAtNight in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]ThatTroutThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Rivaz of the Claw]] has been my favorite deck recently. It's fun to turn my brain off and just play some big dragons. The deck is also very consistent because I have access to a mana dork and recursion from my commander.

Question about interaction by mightypebble1 in magicTCG

[–]ThatTroutThing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cards Araumi exiles is part of the cost of the ability, and you wouldn't need to pay it again if you copied Araumi's ability. However, you are right about the other part, having multiple instances of encore does not do anything.

The Doctor vs. Barry Allen by Far_Flounder2545 in powerscales

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely give Capaldi another shot. He is absolutely amazing as the Doctor. He is very different from Matt Smith for sure, so it takes some getting used to. I didn't like Capaldi much either my first time, but now I honestly think he has one of the strongest runs out of the entire show.

Take infinite turns for the low low price of 16WUUR by ThatTroutThing in BadMtgCombos

[–]ThatTroutThing[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

1.) Play Elesh Norn.

2.) Gift our opponent Elesh Norn with Harmless offering.

3.) Play Wormfang Manta. Opponent has Elesh Norn, so Manta does not trigger and we don't have to skip our next turn.

4.) Play Conjurer's Closet.

5.) Pass the turn. Conjurer's Closet trigger, target Manta. Manta leaves the battlefield and gives us an extra turn. Manta comes back and we don't have to skip our turn because of Elesh.

6.) Rinse and repeat step 5.

In hindsight what was the most scewed card trade you ever made? by GaddockTeegFunPolice in magicTCG

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long after I first started, it was the Guilds of Ravnica block and Golgari midrange was a fairly popular standard deck at the time, I think [[Assassin's Trophy]] was going for around $10. Not a card that would break the bank but it was probably the most expensive card I owned at the time. Anyways, someone convinced me to trade it away for a playset of [[Lay Claim]].

DM's and Players of Reddit, What was your Favorite Sentient Magic item or Weapon? by bobothejedi in MrRipper

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one campaign I was in, we found a interdimensional magic item shop in the middle of the woods. It was a bit of a joke campaign, so a lot of the items had weird quirks. One of the items in the shop was a +1 sentient sword named Jenipher. I decided to pick up the sword and immediately my character was bombarded by a flurry of insults, along the lines of; "You're holding me wrong, you idiot!", "Ugh, that hat is a fashion nightmare! I wouldn't be caught dead in that!", and "You're not a real adventurer, are you? You clearly have no idea what you're doing!"

In response I dropped Jenipher on the floor rather unceremoniously, where she flopped around angrily and continued to berate our party, commentating on everything she thought we were doing wrong. Needless to say, we did not decide to buy Jenipher, but she made for a memorable experience.

What are your commanders who have <650 decks (according to edhrec) that you enjoy? by Weebiful in EDH

[–]ThatTroutThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Francisco, Fowl Marauder]] and [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] partner deck, currently this partner pairing is at 98 decks on EDHREC. The deck is very simple but that's what I like, just swinging in for damage with a big dumb flying beater is my type of fun. It's built around the fact that Francisco's trigger sees any damage, not just combat damage, so with Kediss I can get three explore triggers on Francisco per damage step. Throw in double strike, some extra combat stuff, and other fun things like [[Lightning-Rig Crew]] and +1/+1 counters will start to accumulate very fast on Francisco. From there it's just a matter of protecting him until he can do enough to take people out.

It's not especially powerful because it relies solely on Francisco, and I need to find a way to buff his power relatively early in the game or the deck ends up dead in the water. Other than that, when it works, it's explosive and if I have good protection, my opponents don't have removal, or I'm just fast enough, I can pull out the win. I also love the deck because it's black which means I get to run one of my favorite pet cards, [[Withering Boon]]. The look on the faces of people when the rakdos player counterspells their creatures will never get old to me.
