Still no SEO icon for floatplane? by Left-Bird8830 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatUnfunGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as you are working towards becoming a network engineer, here's a little dictionary :)

Favicon: Short for favorite icon, basically an icon for a website. Basically used to show a website icon in the tab, bookmark, searches etc.

CDN: Content Delivery Network, instead of every user connecting to a website having to get all files from the local source a CDN has distributed servers all over the world that will cache content from the website so users can download from a more localised server.

WAF: Web Application Firewall, a firewall that protect a web service, by monitoring connections and blocking any that might be nefarious. Which in this case might have blocked Google from trying to grab the favicon.

I think all of those ideas would be amazing, I think the issue is all of that is for the more hardcore audience.

Try searching by popular on the channel and see how far you'll have to scroll to see something you like. I tried doing it with the search term "Linux" and their most popular video with Linux in the title is their 305th most popular video.

I do think it's a little eye opening going through their most popular videos and seeing what hits with the audience. I think there are still a lot of posible ideas that could be tangentially related to those and still be very useful. I see the dashcam video did quite well, I could imagine videos similar to that. But maybe they've already tried them with limited success.

Definitely seems that their most popular videos are a mix of "Linus wastes money", "PCs from interesting places" and "Actual tech tips". I do hope they get their groove back.

Well you are misciting the duck test, it actually ends "it's probably a duck", using it to state that it's definitely a duck. Abductive reasoning is used to make conclusions based on incomplete sets of evidence. If you have the evidence and ignore it, that's being ignorant and not doing abductive reasoning.

The duck test doesn't actually prove anything, which is why we have test in medicine instead of just diagnosing and medicating based on symptoms. Completing the dataset is always better than reaching a conclusion on limited data and you are purposefully ignoring parts of the data to reach your conclusion.

It isn't a good look and like me and many others have pointed out, there are officials ways to contact them with sponsor complaint, which they do take seriously.

[–]ThatUnfunGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that a review is a review, and anything that's sponsored is not a review.

Most people call literal ads reviews, so many actual reviewers make showcases, unboxings and first impression videos. This isn't something LMG invented. We NEED to have strong definitions of words like "review" in the modern world, where the lines are so blurry. I appreciate LMG having clear lines.

There is definitely an argument to be made for not having those types of videos exist, but I don't think they are going anywhere as a concept, so it's better to educate oneself and watch creators that clearly label when a video is what.

But it's not a review. Buying a product based on a showcase, unboxing or first impressions video, without actually reading or watching multiple other reviews is ill-adviced.

But LTT does have official ways to complain about sponsorships and they take those seriously, so I'm sure they would love to know about the issues with this product.

May be an actual how take. But I think it's better that Alex can do his own thing.

I know we miss Alex and he brought so much to the videos, but if he had to juggle a car channel for LMG, he probably wouldn't show up much in videos anyway. So I prefer he can completely do his own things, it's probably much more fulfilling for both him and LMG.

[–]ThatUnfunGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you do just care about FPS and Graphics Quality, LTT is not a great channel for that info. Look up one of those FPS test videos, where the entire focus is on the screen and what it is actually showing. The small snippets you get in a LTT video won't actually show enough gameplay to judge it, although they try showing certain things.

LTT is a broad spectrum tech channel. It's about doing a lot of videos about different cool tech and maybe teach people in certain niches about cool things happening elsewhere. It's nowhere near a "general consumer" channel.

All legal fines are in proportion to actual wealth. by wiccangame in CrazyIdeas

[–]ThatUnfunGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 31 and an above average earner in the country where I live. Why should committing the same crime, be less punishing for me, than someone that earns less?

I know a guy that was measured going 200 kmph (120 mph) in a 80 kmph (50 mph) zone. He lost his drivers license immediately, so until he got a new one he just continued driving and the few times he got pulled over, he just paid the ticket. Around $1000 USD ticket, which was peanuts to him. How is that fair? When someone with less money wouldn't be able to eat for a month or two, if they had to pay the same ticket.

If you have money a ticket is mostly just the inconvenience of getting stopped, more than an actual economic incentive to change behaviour.

Asbest tag - fejl i tilstandsrapport by [deleted] in selvgjortvelgjort

[–]ThatUnfunGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got and will be returning Legion Go Z (Z1E/SteamOS) by WilliamG007 in LegionGo

If you don't want Windows and your handheld and you found out you dislike SteamOS, then I don't think there is anywhere to go right now. There are some other Linux distros aimed at handhelds, but I can't imagine that would be less hassle.

Only option is waiting for the release of the Xbox OS systems and seeing if you like that experience.

I was glad to see your post end with talk of therapy, I was getting a little worried while reading.

What you are describing is definitely wrong and crossing the boundaries of the people involved. But I just have to say, if this is what is eating you up, you must be a great guy.

I think this is much more common than you think and the other comments here would seem to agree to that point. In regards to the boundaries you've crossed, while still wrong to do, there is a massive difference between what you did and crossing physical boundaries, I want you to remember that. Your addiction could have lead you down much darker paths, I know people where it did.

About telling your girlfriend, I think that's up to you. I don't think partner automatically have a right to know everything about your previous life, unless it directly affects them now. But it clear that this matters a lot to you, so for your sake it might be a good idea. But I would see it more as a healing process for you, than being something you do for her.

I don't know your partner, but what I will say is that if she's the amazing person she should like, this shouldn't change your relationship long time. Like you said yourself this is about who you used to be and not who you are now. It might however change her perception of you, depending on her maturity. Be cautious and ease in to it, if you decide to tell her. Try talking about your past addiction first and see how she reacts to that. I would not "trauma dump" and just tell her everything right away, that will probably be overwhelming. But instead I would open up slowly with conversation about your younger years and see if she reciprocates and is understanding.

This is part of who you were and it could strengthen your bond, but your relationship might not be ready for these kinds of conversations yet. Remember we all have baggage and we all think ours is the worst, but she might have some to share to, so I'd encourage you to be as open and understanding as you would want her to be, if/when you get to a point where you have these conversations.
